The folder location of the root of the Documents folder locations

Original title: windows Explorer

Why are also copied the files listed under Documents to the users folder?

Hi Jack,

I would like to inform you that the exact location of the Documents folder in the C: drive is

C:\Users\\My Documents

My Documents contains the same information from libraries as well.

It is only in this way that we watch it the location of the Documents folder is not displayed in the location of the source when opened directly.

Hope this information helps.

    Hello

Open Windows Explorer to C:\Users\ and right-click on the Documents folder in the pane on the right rather than the left columns.

  • Change Windows 7 - the name of the Documents folder

In a new installation of Windows 7, I moved the documents located under 'Users' to the C: root and renamed the directory my documents.  Everything seems to work perfectly, with the exception of my backup script.  Studying this further, I found an interesting phenomenon:

Apparently, the system sees in the folder "C:\MyDocs" 'C:\Documents', even if Explorer shows as "C:\MyDocs.

And, of course, my backup script to not find the directory of the ti.

    My concerns are twofold:

Why does Explorer displays the name of the directory the same way, I named ("C:\MyDocs"), and why the system sees it as ("C:\Documents")?

And, more importantly, how to make the system recognizes the correct name? ("C:\MyDocs")

If you have moved/renamed in the Explorer, which was the wrong method.

The default location is only a pointer to the physical location

While I can see a logic to another partition of libraries I don't know that I see no logic in the movement of the root of the drive

  • Intermittent permission problems on the Documents directed to the network share folder.

Everyone knows this intermittent problem before?   We have Vista workstations where each employee is allocated storage (disks Home) on a network drive (on a NetApp storage device).  Each employee Documents folder is redirected to a folder dedicated to this place.

The vast majority of employees is having no problems with this configuration, but we recently did not have a low percentage of employees who are starting to have problems with strange permission on this network through their Documents folder drive.

First of all, NTFS permissions have been confirmed as correct on the respective folder of each (each has been granted full control).   In each case, random, users encounter intermittent "access denied" errors when you try to save files (Word documents, Excel, files jpg even spreadsheets) on their own drive of home.  Typically, the problem occurs independently to know if they are trying to save the docs within an application (Word, Excel, etc.) and manually via a Windows Explorer window.

For example, a user could save an Excel file in a subfolder in the folder root documents, but a few moments later could not save a jpg file in the same folder.  It has been verified that it has full control over both the folder root of Documents as the subfolder containing the documents.

Another user can save files Word and Excel in its Documents, but then failed to open their shortly after (access denied).   It has been verified that he has full control of both the root folder of Documents than the subfolder containing the documents.

NTFS permissions are well positioned, but yet, we have still some weird permission issues.   Y at - he recommended registry entries to check as we redirect Documents to a network drive?

  • Windows search fails to find the files in the Documents folder

Original title: Windows 7 search finds no files, even though all the settings have been verified and the search index has been rebuilt

I recently bought a new Dell laptop Studio 1558 with Windows 7 Home Premium and moved through several hundred documents from my old PC to the new folder 'My Documents'.

As many others have found, Windows Search has been completely useless. She seems to have no problem finding files in the music folder or image, but anything in the document library is invisible to the it - even if I get in a subfolder small for a file name I see just in front of me, Windows Search will announce that "no element not corresponding to your search.

I took a number of steps so far to fix the problem, which none have worked:

    1. I checked which locations are indexed for search and ensured that the document library is among them (as well as all of my C drive).

    2. I checked that appropriate file extensions (.doc .docx .pdf, etc.) are all selected from the "File Types" list in indexing options (although I noticed that 'Description of filter' for .pdf bed "Registered IFilert is not found" - not this problem with Word documents).

    3. I have deleted and rebuilt the search index.

    4. I ran the troubleshooting Windows 7 Search tool, which reports that it cannot find any problems.

    5. I have read that some problems with Windows 7 search can be solved by changing a registry key (http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-fix-windows-7-search-problems/) but when I navigate to the folder in my registry, only following three keys are here (not the one mentioned in the difficulty):

    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {0B2BAAEB-0042-4DCA-AA4D-3EE8648D03E5}
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {36011842-DCCC-40FE-AA3D-6177EA401788}
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\ {59BD6DD1-5CEC-4D7E-9AD2-ECC64154418D}

A couple of things, I said - if I create a new word document and save it, Windows Search seems to immediately get back on it and is able to find. I also noticed that at first when I opened one of the word documents that have been transferred over the old PC and then closed it again, Windows Search picked up on it and could find it. So I went to try to open and close then all of my documents (an arduous task...), but the subject to halfway through Windows Search has ceased to be able to find them.

All Word documents using Microsoft Word 2007 in .doc or .docx format, although the problem also applies to Excel, PDF and image files, so I don't think that the problem is with the word itself.

I have tried everything I can think so far, including all the solutions, I could see suggested in previous discussions. I really need the search function working to effectively use my laptop so that any help would be welcome!

    Thank you, Jack

Santosh thanks, I checked the permissions for the appropriate files and SYSTEM was present, which doesn't seem to be the problem. However, I found a solution that might work for other people are having the same problem.

I noticed that if I changed the location of the files, Windows search suddenly seems to become aware that they existed and then indexed and followed them correctly - even if they were subsequently moved back to the original location. I just created a temporary folder outside my library of documents and then each subfolder in the folder my documents him and then come back, one by one. It was a bit laborious but the problem solved - I know not why it worked, but all the old files are now indexed and appear correctly when you use Windows Search, and it seems not to have any problems, follow-up of the newly created files.

    Cheers, Jack

  • Create subfolders in the folder in the document library

I am trying to create subfolders in a particular file, I have in the document library.  I tried right click, select new, and there is no option to create a new folder.  I tried to create a folder on the desktop and by dragging in the folder and the files came the file disappeared!  For example, I managed to trade shows, so each show has its own file in the document library.  For each show, I want to create subfolders for contracts, menus, etc.  I hope that this option has not disappeared in the new OS!

    Hello

You should be able to simply locate the folder in the library where you want to create the subfolder.

Double-click the folder to open it then right click inside this folder and select the new/folder option.

When you open the library, look at the top-right of the window and make sure that this folder is selected in the Arrange by: menu drop-down.

If you have this option is set to something like name or modification Date, then you will not see the new/folder option.

Let us know if that helps.

    Concerning

  • Content of the Documents folder

I just applied a windows update that changed my office unrecognizable, so I 'fiddled' (error) and reflection are passed all my documents to appdata/local/microsoft/windows/file/data /.

Each file is now in a numbered folder.  How can I move them all back into my usual documents files?

I tried a restore point, and it did not work.

    1. Press +R to display the race box, %nom user % and click OK (your user folder will appear).
    2. Right-click the Documents folder in the list and select Properties.
    3. On the location tab, make sure that it says this:

      C:\Users\Hilary\Documents

Replace Hilary with your user account folder name. If you do not know your name of user account folder, go to C:\Users and note what is the name of the folder.

    4. Click OK to save the new location.
  • Record the location of the document was last saved display no original location

We just replaced our server farm terminal server.  The servers run 2008 R2 Remote Desktop services.  Adobe Acrobat XI.  All documents are in network shares.  Users work with thousands of documents per day.  When they sign a document or make changes and go save, save him location displays the last saved not location the place where the document was opened.   It wasn't the behavior with the old servers. And the protected mode is on and performed in the previous servers.

    Hi lances71288158,

Yes, that's correct. With the latest Acrobat Reader of DC/DC, it shows that the last saved location, else you'll browse the folder. It does not save the location of the new folder.

    Kind regards

  • recommendations for the use of files outside of the root of web documents

    Hi all

I decided to give another go to Dreamweaver now that I have CS4, rather than "hand coding", it's been a while, and I'm just getting used to everything...

So the first site I created is a PHP/MySQL site and I have the installer. I have the files local/tests/remote view works fine, trotting along, now I want add files I normally outside the root of web documents, for example, if the web root is/website/htdocs / I like to put some files in/site/includes and include / require them as needed. The problem is that I can't decide how to view these files/folders by Dreamweaver.

My only choice to move the root of the document/site sets up a directory? How will this effect site preview and other features?

    Thank you

It is one of the less satisfactory aspects of the management of site in Dreamweaver, and several developers, including myself, made pressure on the Dreamweaver team in recent years to improve it. Who knows? They could possibly take knowledge.

The only way to do at present is to create two site definitions, one nested inside the other. Set up the site definition normally based on specific folder as the root of your site. Then create a new site definition based on site. Dreamweaver will be nag you it can cause problems, but this doesn't actually block you to do. The only potential problem is with synchronization of the site.

The problem with the use of site as the only basis for the definition of your site is that Dreamweaver automatically puts things like connections, Scripts and other files in the root of the site. Thus, all things evil at the level of the site hierarchy. Frankly, all this is a bit of a pain. Development of the dynamic site has been added to Dreamweaver only in the version 6 (Dreamweaver MX), and nobody had really thought through the need to store files outside the root of the site.
