"The following files were imported not because they could not be read.

I am under Lightroom 4 version 4.4 on an iMac with El Capitan version 10.11.4.

Until yesterday, I was able to import my pictures (taken on a Nikon D5100) directly from the SD card that contains the RAW images.

Since yesterday I have brancher plug in the SD card, launch Lightroom and ask to import.  This card has some previous pictures that have been imported successfully last month.  The overview screen shows all the files of photos already imported (including some that have been deleted after the initial import.  It doesn't show the most recent photos I've taken.  When I click on the button import, I find myself with the message noted above in the subject.  This message lists all the 'new' files and records that had previously been imported (but removed later.

I also have a second SD memory card with recently took pictures and I tried to transfer to this card.  Same results.  The excerpts show, essentially, on the preview window, but when I ask to import, the same message appears in the end.

I have read various posts on the community pages and other sources.  It seems that most people have a problem with permissions, but I checked the read source information for the files of individual pictures, the folder and the SD card and all permissions are read and write.  I then checked the destination read the information for the external hard drive I use (and have done successfully for months), the destination and subfolders and all folder permissions read and write as well.

In the form of import in Lightroom, I tried to change the Destination Folders both pictures and News Photos without success.  I tried clicking off don't Import suspected duplicates without success.

I'm now at my wit's end.

What else can I try?

Then you have a problem with the external hard drive and or the electronics of the enclosure. Time to take another and copy, if you can, your new external image files.

I've never used Toshiba external systems. I have used several WD external systems over the years and spent at Seagate are about 2 years and recently got a couple of external Samsung USB 3 SSD.

  • RAW of Nikon D7000 import fail - error: the following files were not imported because they could not be read.

    I'm on a Mac under OS X 10.11.

I connect the camera via USB, open Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC (2015 2.1 - Camera Raw 9.2), click on the button import and display all the. NEF files on the camera.  I check 'in the subfolder"and it by default selects 'by date' with 'Format for a Date' 2015/10 which I accept.  I then select the collection that I want to add to, define rule change in file name and click on the import button blue with all the selected photos.

Import does not work and I get the error: the following files were not imported because they could not be read.

I read in the forums and many people claim that this is due to a problem with file permissions.  The is not the case here.  I am logged in as myself, running Lightroom like myself (the process of Lightroom is held by me) and my entire repertoire belongs to me, including the "2015/10" record he would write in.  In addition, I can manually enter this directory and manually create and delete files and folders with no problems.

So the foregoing proves no problem licensing insofar as the operating system and the file system is concerned, and also proves that this is a specific problem with Lightroom.  Why is it not work?  I pay several hundred dollars a year for a subscription of CC; I need this job.

The error was due to permissions of file after all.  When you import media, must be very carefully considered defects of menu import gear - if you "subfolder" selected, look at the setting for "Destination Folder" - in my case, it was set to ""/ "."  This is the root directory, so it's obvious standard user level permissions won't allow files to be written here, or I wanted to have whatever it is put into memory.  It was particularly easy to miss because it's only a simple slash.  Once I set the destination folder to a location in my directory, import worked well.

"Could not be read" indicates that the Destination Directory has no WRITE permission in your operating system.

To resolve this problem, you must

    1. Determine the Destination folder - it's on the right side of your import under Destination dialog box
    2. Change permissions in your operating system on this particular file have WRITE permission (or switch the destination to one that has the WRITE permission)

  • LR 4.4: "the following files were not imported because they could not be read".

I installed 4.4 Lightroom on my iMac nine about 1.5 months ago. I have not installed anything on this machine VSCO lightroom presets, who also has worked on earlier imports.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Scott

Hi, Scott - I hope this is the solution - I found your question because I had the same problem. Now that is resolved, I vaguely remember do this for me in the past, as well.

This is the solution that sets this caveat for me.

Somehow, I had changed the DESTINATION "save file in" in orders to one folder other than the user.  Once I corrected the file to download in the file named my computer (instead of another user or space in the computer), it was very good.

I had managed to save elsewhere besides the sport_000 user profile (my profile).   I don't remember where I got fat fingers, but it's the second or third time I've done it for me over the years.

    I hope this helps.

  • Message "files were imported not because they could not be read" when importing from an SD card

I use CC/creation of Lightroom clouds for several months now and no problems. All of a sudden I get a message saying that the file I am trying to import my SD card could not be read, so I'm unable to import new photos in my catalog. I was importing images using the same SD card and the camera without any problems in the past. I use Mac OS X El Capitan. Any ideas? Thank you.

The most common cause of this error is a lack of privs to WRITING on the destination folder. Using the Finder, make sure that you have READ and WRITE privs on your destination folder tree.

  • The following could not be imported because they could not be read

    Hi all

I have been using lightroom 5.7.1 for a month now with no problems until today.  I tried to import photos and it keeps "the following could not be imported because they could not be read."  I haven't changed anything with my camera or a computer, I tried to put the photos on my computer and a card reader.  I can view the photos outside of Lightroom, so I know that they are not damaged.  Exteremly frustrated right now, any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

    Paul

This message means that you don't have WRITE permission on the destination folder.

Thus, in the dialog box import to Lightroom, take note of this folder is selected under 'Destination' on the right. Then in your operating system, go to this exact folder and change permissions of WRITING.

This message indicates that you have not permission in writing to the destination directory.

    So:

    1. Determine the destination directory... go in the Lightroom import dialog box and note the location of this directory specified on the right side under "Destination".
    2. Go to your operating system and change the permissions on this exact directory have WRITE permission.

    What do I put here?

You must first start on doing something so USB drive a bootable Hiren.

    Here's how:

I'll recommend you use Hiren boot CD (it will go also to a flash/USB stick/USB).

It's good for you, because there a lot of tools more on that on the Recovery Console CD of XP, doesn't your administrator passwords and you will not have to futz round in your BIOS, if any afflicted system has SATA drives - Hiren can deal with this.

You will have a bunch of great tools that you have in XP... Recovery Console an editor of the register, adjustable password and an office that resembles Windows XP so you will feel comfortable flexibility.

You can easily copy your personal data (documents, pictures, music) to an external drive.

A system of work, start by downloading the latest version on Hiren Boot CD from here (it is a substantial download but worth it):
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/    (look to the bottom of the page).

Unzip the Hiren to a folder where you can find it.  There's a Hiren. BootCD.15.x.iso that you have to then.

Hiren was instructed to make a bootable USB drive that you can use, but it takes you first burn the .iso to a CD image file and a few other measures, so I suggest another way and here's how:

Download RUFUS 1.3.2 or whatever the latest version is here (read a few things on the page so you can learn more on this subject):

    http://Rufus.AKEO.IE/

I will warn to be careful that don't accidentally format you a hard disk - don't forget your USB key is in and know what the drive letter!  This part makes me still a little nervous, so be careful.

Launch of RUFUS and all default values should be fine for the device, choose letter of your USB drive, quick tag format FAT32, it if you want and in the Format options box, click on the little icon that looks like a CD and a window will open.  Navigate through this dialogue to point to the folder that contains the Hiren. BootCD.15.x.iso that you have unpacked above and the box should change to say the image ISO (RUFUS includes the Hiren ISO file).

Double check you have the right device selected in the top (NOT you HDD) click Start, acknowledge receipt of the warning and let it finish (it will take a little time) it copies the files.   Hiren ISO is also a good size.

When RUFUS is finished, it will say "DONE" at the bottom.

Put the USB in the afflicted machine and reset/reboot and regardless of the button you press to get a boot menu where you can select the USB drive as first boot device (it's F11 for me).  If you do not see a start menu choice, you will need to set your BIOS to boot from USB first instead of the HARD disk.

When the Hiren menu displays, choose the XP Mode of Mini and it will start loading (slowly from a USB key) and finally, you should see a windowsy looking for office.  You should recognize the part and feel uncomfortable, but it is not your office - the office of the Hiren!

Remember: you do not start on your hard drive, - you started in the Office of the Hiren.

A way to check the drive for errors is to open my computer and right-click on your afflicted player and choose Properties, tools, error, check checking now... put a check mark in the boxes and then start.

Sometimes that works, then you can also click on start, run and in the type box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window and enter the following command (assuming that XP is installed on your C drive)

    CHKDSK c: /r

This disk check can last a long time (perhaps several to several hours) depending on the size of the volume, the amount of data on the volume and what the disk check finds to do.  You may need to run more than once.
