The Inspiron 1705 XP OS upgrade?

I have an Inspiron 1705 Win XP MCE running. Works great, running Firefox, p.o. box and other applications, but MS ends XP support April 2014, trying to force people to pay to upgrade to a later version of Windows.

I don't know what are my options for the laptop.

I see a 3rd party sales Win 7 Pro 64 - bit SP1 (DELL) for $70. Would this work?

Previously, I upgraded my RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB (I knew XP 32 bit only about 3.2 GB of available, but it was 50% more and worth it.) If possible to run Win 7 Pro 64-bit, I expect my RAM available for the entire 4 GB

My concern with any OS change is to have the drivers for the laptop.

TIA

My post here was precipitated by the update Kaspersky KIS 2013 2014 KIS and find themselves in a State where he started up the logon screen, but there is no keyboard. It will therefore run a program on this subject an XP repair.

I can tell you that the CPU was when it was built, and it is an Intel Core 2 Duo T7200. It is original of packing slip off, and I saw that T7200 in other programs, like CPUID.

This link seems to indicate my processor is Intel 64-capable and must run the 64-bit operating system:

http://Ark.Intel.com/products/27255/

Is the chipset 'limit' independent 3.25 GB of video chip used? I have the Nvidia card in mine. It is also possible that hardware supports more than 3.25 GB, but the software the chipset with a ceiling and without a hack, you can't over the 3.25 GB.

Thanks for these links! Everything just great!

I have Win 7 on my desktop, it of what I'm on now and prefer to have the same OS on both systems, so I lean toward Win 7

Thank you! -Dennis

The T7200 will handle 64-bit without problem.

The upper limit of the memory usage should be independent of the video card.

From there, on the same model:

http://www.notebookforums.com/t/217507/3-25-GB-limit-even-with-64-bit-OS-why

In response to the 'full' 4 GB, chipsets remap usually the space above the space of 4 GB, so if the chipset does not do the mapping, it will not be able to access 'full' memory space

Basically the chipset can not handle more memory so that you will not get all of 4 GB or more. You could get up to 3.5 GB with the NVidia card opposed to 3.25 GB with the shared Intel one, but I'm not sure.

  • The Inspiron 530 CPU upgrade.

Hi all. I have an Inspiron 530 stock (not a 530 a/b/c/d, etc.) under Vista Home Premium, model Board 0RY007. BIOS is 1.0.3 (which... seems hopelessly out of date, but what do I know?). Previous research told me I couldn't go to a quad core with this motherboard, but a dual core is very good for my gaming needs. I installed on a Pentium E6500 2.93 GHz dual core, because it seemed to be a modest upgrade that would work with realism in a 3 year machine.

When that I boot, I get the black screen progress bar, green with the Microsoft copyright line downstairs. It will not go past this screen. When I reboot, the comp is in recovery mode, but then freezes also. I reinstalled the old processor core, he returned to recovery mode, this time successfully, and I did a system restore to a week ago. It is here where I am now. The machine works very well with the old processor (I also upgraded the RAM and that seems to be good too), so I'm left wondering if this new processor is compatible with my old Inspiron. Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Before installing the processor, upgrade the BIOS to Version 1.0.15, or more, what new Intel CPU support has been added and see if that makes a difference.

In addition, please post the e6500 processor sSpec number.

After seeing several users asking for help on this topic and to lose contact with the users, I decided it's time to gather all the information and make it as enjoyable as possible. When the project is completed, I will state here duly filled (it will take me some time to put together it). For now, it is

    WORK IN PROGRESS

Little warning first to users who still hold any type of guarantee for their Inspiron. Upgrade the HARD drive (HDD), RAM (memory) and the installation of video card would not void your warranty, PSU (Power Supply Unit) could be questionable. Dell does not generally recommend change CPU (processors) [as soon as you think about changing your motherboard, your PC is therefore more Dell, unless she card mother Dell from another model, but then it's Frankenstein, in this case you can get help in the forum of harware Tom, but not here], however I would like to present the list of tested processors Dell and there will be another 2 processors not tested by Dell. In addition, you can change the case of do your prettiest Inspiron or to improve cooling, I would say - it could void the warranty as well. Finally, at the end, I would like to talk about overclocking, it would be just not the cancellation of guarantees, it puts you at my mercy, because I'm the only one left who did this and always ready to help others, remember, as soon as you decide to go this way, you could a danger to PC - it might even ignite and burn your place , so basically you do so at your own risk. I'm thinking, if you overclock Inspiron 570 you agree with the above possibilities and would not hold the grudge (or hold responsible) against me or any other Member of this forum if you become homeless because of the fire caused by overclocking, LOL.

I'll start with the regions less invasive and easier to the more difficult and dangerous.

The guide consists of the following

    Part 1. Upgrade of RAM.

    Part 2. Video card update.

    Part 3. POWER supply upgrade

Part 4. Upgrade the processor (CPU)

Part 5. Cooling of the processor and a general cooling in the original case.

Part 6. Cooling of the processor and a general cooling in the larger case.

    Part 7. Overclocking.

If I missed something I go back and fix it, I would try to keep it all in one thread. When I consider the complete Guide, then I would say.

First things first - information. All the Inspiron 570 manualand next page easy to download driver Driver download page not so easy.

Before asking questions, than I guess you read the corresponding manuals, so I must not explain, for example, how to open your case, well I hope you understand what I mean.

    Part 1. Upgrade of RAM.

According to the manuals official Dell Inspiron 570 is limited to 8 GB memory 1333 MHz maximum, but it was found that 16 GB 1333 MHz is recognized, faster RAM would have slowed at 1333 MHz. So far, no one has complained that their RAM (manufacturers) were not recognized by Dell. In general, it is recommended to use Crucial, however, I used Corsair and have not noticed any problems. Also, try to avoid the large heat spreaders, especially if you intend to use the fan Tower configuration push - pull - push fan can block access to the nearest slots of RAM CPU cooler.

    I would try to explain.

Unfortunately, this is the only photo where you can see the situation.

This is the pattern with the same color RAM code.

    Part 2. Video card update.

If you know, our Inspiron has only 300 watt PSU, so without changing the highest supply updated Sapphire video card (recommend) 7750, or cheaper and somewhat less powerful version is 6670, for anything beyond what you should have to upgrade your power supply.

Some people have asked if the graphics card and RAM slots would be "intercept", the answer is no. However, to change or add RAM, video card must be removed to allow RAM Jack clamps open, this is approximate photo below, the maximum length of the map is approximately 12 inches or 30 cm, in this case video card would go under HARD drive so you should measure top set.

Watch you 2 SATA slots beside the Video card - they could be covered by the Vcard radiator, if this is the case you should use angle sata cables.

I realized that I did not cover a lot of cards video here. So a little more. "" As see you I placed 550 MSI TI Cyclone OC for its unique cooling ability, this map is very large, but short, measurements are "x (H)" x (W) (L) ', 8.27 "x 5.51" x 1.38 ". I'll add more cards here as users will report.

    XFX Double D FX - 787 a SADC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2 GB 256 - bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x 16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support video card 9.5 "x 4.4" x 1.5 ". "

Part 3. Update on power supply.

This is a general guide for power supply recommended by MSI, I would add at least 50 watt to your final decision, however more better, some say 100 watts is very good idea, argues here. Any standard power supply fits inside (it may be little required some metal parts of the case folding, but nothing major). Just make sure that a new block of POWER 24 pin or 20 + 4 pin, MOBO (motherboard) main power connector plus 4 connector pins supply assistants, 4 cables SATA power and at least a 6-pin PSU video card. It may be modular or not. Modular are much more expensive, regular, you'd have to improvise cables underground of the road maintenance.

Here are some pictures of the regular POWER supply, so you see that cable management can be a headache.

To my knowledge the factory recommended PSU is XFX, OCZ, Seasonic, Enermax and Corsair, I see so many complains of Thermaltake and Antec. Store brands and surprisingly cheap PSU should be avoided if you want stability and assurance that nothing will burn or power supply will last long with the same characteristics over time.

Then, I used extreme PSU calculator to show that our standard power can support 7750 and Phenom 965 together, no PSU upgrade needed, if no overclock.

Type of system: 1 physical CPU
    Motherboard: Regular - Desktop
    CPU Socket: Socket AM3
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X 4 965 3400 MHz Deneb C3
Use of CPU utilization (TDP): 90% TDP
    RAM: 2 sticks DDR2 SDRAM
Video card 1: AMD Radeon HD 7750
    Regular SATA: 2 hard drives
DVD - RW / DVD + RW Drive: 1 disc
    USB: 4 devices
    Fans
    Regular: 2 92mm fans;
    LED: 1 fan 92mm;
    Keyboard and mouse: Yes
    The system load: 90%

Minimum POWER supply power consumption: 252 watts
    Recommended power: 302 watts

Inspiron 570 stock PSU is 300 watts and it is known that this number is somewhat underestimated, so 302 watt is okay. Now, the power supply was in my Inspiron 570 model was HIPRO HP-P3017F3, here are the specs for anyone to chew.

    + 5V = 22 a, + 12 v = 5V aux, 18 a, + 3.3V = 17 a = 2A, - 12V = 0. 8A; Special comment "+ 5V and + 3.3V do MUST NOT EXCEED 160 W.

If you need a replacement, you can get it here again for $ 38. Not exactly the same, but very similar.

You have the Inspiron Desktop 3000 Series Mini Tower 3847, or Inspiron 3000 series small office 3647.

Yes, the two above support a PCIe x 16 discrete graphics card, but the Inspiron Desktop 3000 Series Mini Tower 3847, is the best model for the upgrade, because of the limitations of computer small desktop chassis.

  • Inspiron 17R SE (7720) upgrade screen resolution?

    Hello
I have a 'special edition of the Inspiron 17R"(serial number: DCC2DT1) and I used it for about 2 and a half years.
Not once in that time has stopped working, I'm very happy with it and I would update some components and I hope to continue to use it for a few years.

    I am looking to change/update the screen 1600 x 900 on a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display.
My main question here is, if this is possible and will not be a problem, and if I could use first put the other components of the laptop?

I would also like to upgrade the HDD for an SSD and a day later the Intel i7 Intel i5 processor. Is this what I need to know before I Exchange/upgrade components?

    Thanks for reading.

To upgrade the display panel, you must also replace the harness of the display - one that comes with the lower panel of the resolution will not work with the FHD display.

SSD upgrade will not be a problem

Updates are possible with this model (it is the last of Intel Mobile processors, which is sold in the form of half-bridge, removable) - you will need an Ivy Bridge CPU.  Also check your power adapter - 90 w does not have an i7.  You need a minimum of 130 W power adapter to run an i7 CPU.

  • Inspiron 530 s CPU Upgrade - why some Dual Core and not others?

    Hi all

Inspiron 530 s been chugging along fine (although strong), but has now been replaced, so decided to take a look inside, radiator & fan felt loose so unscrewed it and he lifted directly out absolutely no resistance, so I think that the cpu and the radiator cleaning and put thermal paste on would be a good idea.

When I opened it, I thought that I might as well upgrade the processor as older bicoeur are going for about $10-15 here, (he currently has a 1.87? double heart in it), so I got a reading of the forum to find what was possible

    from the bottom of post

    quote - shesageordie

Inspiron 530 s has a mother FoxConn G33m02 meets the specifications of Dell and will support the following Socket LGA 775 processors:

Before installing the processor, that you should check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15 or above, when support for the new Intel processor has been added.

Note: The Quad Core 2 processors are not supported by the Inspiron 530 s [Slimline]

    Bev.

    Theres now my problem

Seem some of the processors used cheap available locally does not not at these figures (and they seem to be somewhat of Eug than those that match)

for example the E8200 E6850, E7200, what of these processors prevents them from working?

And as a note aside will upgrade the radiator and the fan, if I get a different processor?

    Nigelt74

The E7200 and E8200 are 65w/45nm Wolfdale processors and should work.

The E6850 is a 65w/65nm Conroe and will not work

There should be no need to replace the entire radiator/fan of the 530 Inspiron s, but remember to check the version of the BIOS before installing the processor.

Make sure that you run not Firefox mode full screen (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Ctrl + Shift + F).

You see the orange Firefox button if the menu bar is hidden (view > toolbars).

    Original title: upgrade

    Hello WilliamPopat,

If you want to buy an another operating system, you would do better to buy the latest version, i.e., Windows 8.1 it doesn't matter that you don't have a touch screen like Windows 8.1 will work just as well on a desktop PC / laptop normal.

However, before rushing and buying a copy of Windows 8.1, I suggest that you look at this link http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/11885-windows-8-upgrade-assistant-download-run.html the link above shows Windows 8 Upgrade Wizard you can download (free) and allows you to check that your PC is compatible with the latest version of Windows.

According to me, one of my office machines is around 5 or 6 years and Windows 8/8.1 works fine on it.  However, it is best to check your own machine with the wizard upgrade just in case.
