The lens compatibility

I found the threads associated with DSLR targets on a DSLR but see nothing on through different models of digital SLR lenses.  If this has already been answered, please direct me to the appropriate thread.

I have an EOS 20 d.  I would like to get some more recent body but don't want to have to get new lenses.  The lenses I have for the 20 d will work on all EOS XXD models?

I'll throw in a warning that was not mentioned.

IF you have 3rd party... lenses turns that Canon does not publish specifications for the electronics of the EOS.  These 3 parties have reconstitute the interface in order to build a compatible lens.  They tend to test these lenses with any Canon body are currently on the market at that time.

Just sometimes... Canon will come out with a new body of EOS and the 3rd part of goal maker (and it's customers, unfortunately) will discover that the lens is no longer compatible with the 'new' body.  Canon has nothing wrong... they are still following the same features... but it means work the 3rd party reverse-eningeering na not cover all cases and the new camera is taking advantage of certain features that the 3rd party never tested.  Some 3rd party lenses one be returned to manufacturers to have their electronics reprogrammed or updated for compatible (but not always... sometimes you are just out of luck.)

If you have all the glass cannon... you won't have this problem.

As to the compatibility of Canon...

Canon lenses come in the following flavors:

EF lenses: these lenses will work on ALL Canon EOS body... few matter where it was made, film or digital, is not serious.  They work.

EF-S-objectives: these lenses are designed for use on the body of EOS who have APS - C size sensors.  The APS - C sensor is a little smaller than the 'full frame' sensor (it is a sensor that is roughly the same size as a single image on 35mm film).  A sensor APS - C being physically smaller, the EF-S lens is designed to project a small circle of image into the body of the camera. This allows the lenses to be smaller and lighter, and usually also less expensive... but the tradeoff is that they cannot be used on any camera body that has a 'full frame' sensor

EF - M lenses: Canon introduced (and seems to have already abandoned, at least in North American markets) a camera 'mirrorless' in the EOS System.  This camera was called the EOS - M.  You can not buy more.  But in all cases, the came with just a couple of lenses designed JUST for this particular camera body (but the camera can also use other EOS lenses.)  The EF - M lenses can ONLY be used on the EOS - M body.

The TS-E objectives: these are specialty lenses that can change image perspective as well as the focal plane of inclination.  You can think of them as the "EF" lenses, they can be used on ANY Canon EOS body.

MP-E objective: it is a 'photo macro' specialized goal.  Canon made a number of macro lenses.  A macro lens allows including close close focus and most of the 'real' macro lenses will allow you to focus at a distance close enough to provide 1 x scale - which means that the image on the sensor is too great that the topic is in "real life."  But with a normal macro lens, you can also focus all the way to infinity.  The MP-E 65mm is special... it's "closer" focus distance is so incredibly close he can capture subjects at 5 x size (instead of size 1 x of the other macro lenses).  But the trade-off is that the lens focuses all the way to the 'infinite '.   No other camera company made a lens like him.  The MP-E lens can be used on ANY Canon EOS body.

  • Canon G16 push the lens cap

Tragically, the shutter of lens on my G16 protectors are made to (following an incident of melting candy car).  Do not really want to spend $400 replacing everything and I was wondering if someone had never followed pressure on the lens for their camera Cap?  These components are not really worth; Oddly delicate for what is otherwise such a sturdy camera body...

    Thank you

    Dan

B & H Photo so that Amazon has push the lens cap that goes to the more than 100 mm that adapts to it. You just need to know or measure the outside diameter with the lens when retracted retracted my guess is 58mm through the accessories listed for her.

  • Camcorder LEGRIA HF - G30 with WD-H58W lens compatibility.

    Hi all, I own a camcorder Legria HF - G10 with a converter WD-H58W wide-angle lens.

Now, I want to change my cam with the Legria HF - new G30.

Will I can continue using the WD-H58W camcorder HF - G30 or I have to buy the lens of WA - H58 as suggested on the Canon Website?

    Thank you.

Hi all, I just received a response from support official Canon on the question I posted here: they say that camcorder HF - G30 and WD-H58W converter are not compatible, so if I'm going to buy HF - G30 I buy WA - H58 converter.

WD-H58W converter works only with the HF - G10 camcorder, they say.

Thank you all and consider better.

  • Need help to repair the lens!

Hi I am Andy and I just want you ask around about the repair of the lens.

Recently, my uncle gave me his 17-40mm f4L lens and told me that there is an infection minor fungus in one or some of the elements on the inside. When I checked, there are actually 2 mushroom vein small infection and recently, I just noticed a grain of fungus at the rear of the head element as well.

With that, my question is how much would it take to repair or clean the lens to get rid of the fungus for preventing further attacks?

It is not yet possible, but Canon will give you and estimate everything first.  It will probably take completely apart. Fungus is bad news.

  • Problems with (films) coating of the lens on the surface of the canon lenses.

I read many comments here about how to clean the surfaces of the lens... I wonder if canon films that they promote as do wonderful things for development are not so great for cleaning? I bought an expensive lens not for long and cleaned with either lens clothing tending my opthomologist after my appointment to look for my glasses... I collect these sweet little squares, whenever I have an appointment to the eye because they are made for the purpose of cleaning of lenses... Houston is a very humid climate and after doing some night shots the lens seems sticky and so I polished with the soft cloth... I have not added any sort of cleaning liquid... but I noticed when I had finished there was a blue smear on the entire surface of the lens... Really? I have not used any more pressure than the kind of pressure that you can use to clean your glasses.  This bluish smears can be removed or is permanent damage to a dear surfface...? Now I must say that I didn't notice that this smear has affectd of my photos... I found one in post processing which presents a particular lighting problem which could be linked to the surface of the lens... Other people have had problems with the 'coatings', which are added to the surface of the lens? I would like to add at least two lens more... but I'm afraid to invest again if I rish damage the surface of the lens even Polish with a soft cloth?

Well, I think because I became so addicted to photography... I can't stand that a week shoud go I'm not shooting and post processing... then the most important investment I did in a lens so far is 800 dollars... so as you say the investment of 50 million dollars for the protective lens cover is my best insurance...

  • Distortion of the lens (curve)

    What software do you use?

A lot of packages, as DPP allows to correct the distortion of the lens - some have corrections for different lenses built in.

According to Ken Rockwell, your goal is the following distortion:

18 mm: Strong barrel distortion. Corrected better with + 5.0, but still a bit wavy.

24 mm: Distortion of Canon. Fix with 2.2.

28 mm: Very slight barrel distortion. Fix with + 0.5.

    35 mm: No deformation.

55 mm: Pad negligible distortion. leave him alone, or use-0.2.

As you can see, it is best to shoot on 35mm if you want without distortion.

Otherwise, a new lens is in order.

  • I own the Canon SX HS 50 and love it, however, I like the lens wide angle on the SH SX60

Canon sx hs 50 is a bit amazing camera with the possibility of zoom to large and clarity.  I had a little more than a year.  The new sx 60 SH has some new features that I like... the lens wide angle and the creation of custom effects.  However, the stability of the camera is very fragile when zoomed out.  I question the value of the upgrade of the 50 to 60.

My shots are more abstract... by zooming in on the structures, eyes, etc.  I can take pictures of my car with the 50 but not sure that this would be possible with the 60.  I appreciate any input... or is there another cannon with the lilke long zoom of 50 with some of the features of the 1960s.

Thanks a lot for your comments,.

I don't have one. But you said you've tried, so I guess you tried in store right? In-store, normally the brightness isn't enough so the shutter speed will be slow and you will see shake. In addition, setting the device also comes into play here too. The best way, take the 50 SX with you to the store, set the similar to your 50HS 60HS. Then take the photo and compare. Sometimes, in the store settings are not optimal.

  • Repair of the lens!

I have a 5 month old Canon 60 d and a 70-300 mm. Two weeks while clicking on a bird, I fell on the ground. The camera did not touch the ground, as it was in my hand, but a part of the lens hit the no-so-hard ground. Some dust/dirt probably went inside and she suffered a jolt. Since that day the pictures are not sharp and crisp and dynamic more. I am under warranty and will send the cam and the lens for repairs. They will fix it free of cost, regardless of what might have happened? Or will they send me a new lens if they cannot fix the lens? Pls answer. Thank you.

PS: I cleaned the lens correctly after that I came home, however, was not aware of the wind tunnel of the dust at this time. Cleaned with liquid and soft cloth, but can be some dirt got crushed against the lens as well front and back partciles.

You may be confusing "guarantee" with "insurance". Think of a new car. When you buy a car, the manufacturer offers a warranty. If, say, the air conditioner on your car does not work, the manufacturer will correct this. If, on the other hand, you are involved in an accident and need to send the car to the body for the repair shop, which is NOT covered by warranty... This would require that file you a claim with your insurance company.

The same thing applies to your camera. Canon will deal with problems in the period of warranty where failure is not the result of the damaged camera. But, as he took a fall... you have the cost of the repair yourself or what it would need to have the camera covered by a type of insurance policy.

By the way... owner's insurance * usually * only covers your equipment if the damage occurred while he was on your property (for example in the House or at least in your own yard). Given that most of us tend to venture beyond our own yards back to take pictures, another type of insurance or driver is usually necessary, but you would need to check with your insurance company.

  • The lens Canon Macro 60 mm f2.8 fits my Canon EOS Rebel SL1?

The lens Canon Macro 60 mm f2.8 work on my Canon EOS Rebel SL1?

    Yes.  It's a lens EF - S (EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens)

The SL1 Rebel can use almost any lens Canon EOS... regardless of EF-S vs EF.  He can even use the TS-E and MP-E lenses.

Lenses which does not take your camera are the "EF - M" lenses (there are two of them at last I checked).  Those who are made to the 'mirrorless' body of Canon, which is not sold in North America.

I received by e-mail a file which I can not open... so I downloaded the Microsoft compatibility pack. He asks me to double click the File Format Converter.exe file on my hard disk to start the Setup program.  I'm not savvy and don't know where to find it!  Your help will be admired.  BF

Hello, I downloaded myself today and when I read your question, I went looking for him.

The only place where I found it was prefetch.

However, I was able to view the file after downloading.

When I download I always save it to the desktop, then the scanner and then double-click it to install. If you haven't noticed where it was installed, check your temp folder.

Or download it again and save it to the desktop.

    I hope this helps.
