  I recently got a new iMac - 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, El Capitan running. I transferred most of my backup files to my old iMac which had been damaged during a lightning strike. In the five or six weeks I had the new a whole has been very well. Today, I tried to open the pictures. I received the message that my photo library had some inconsistencies and that it should be repaired. After I pressed the button fix I looked at 95% and then it stop the progress bar and I got the message - "Photos has attempted to repair the library 'Photos', but is unable to open it.  I don't suspect that the lightning had something to with him because I opened pictures at least once on the new iMac. I've set up a new library 'Photos library2', and it seems to work very well how can I recover the pictures that are on the "damaged library"?

  where the library "damaged"? If a disk external hard whrta format is it and how is it connected?

  After upgrading to LR 6.2 G (grid mode) command shortcut does not work in the library module. It works well to return to the grid when in the develop module. The problem was not resolved with LR 6.2.1.

  PS: Being a urser LR since 2008 I hate the new import dialog so I have stopped using the program and will do so until the classic dialogue is back. Or it won't and I should start looking for alternatives?

  One number of others have experienced this problem - please add your vote and details of this bug report in the Adobe official feedback forum: Lightroom: keyboard shortcut 'G' does not not in the library module.

  A few others have reported that restart the computer immediately after resetting preferences seems to fix the problem.  Also note that you can use the ESC key to exit the view library Loupe return to the display of the grid.

• TIFF files created in Silver Efex Pro and split toned in Lightroom 6.1 look more saturated in the view 'fit to screen' in the development in the library module module. It is to be fixed?

  I'm have not used Silver Efex pro, but understand now you're working with B & W images are weakening in LR. What you are likely to see is not a tint or color difference, but a "lighter" image It appears as less color saturation, since the image is monotonous.

  As Gene McCullagh mentioned this is due to the differences in library modules and develop an overview of rendering the preview to view fewer images of 1:1. If a high ISO image is sharper and has asked insufficient Luminance Noise reduction may seem brighter and less strong in the library less than 1:1 view module (i.e. Fit). Fortunately, there's an easy solution, as explained here:

• The same artist is shown several times in the library - how to fix this?

  Hey everybody,

  I just imported some of my old songs in the iTunes library, which is organized by the artists in alphabetical order.

  But now, there is an artist who appears twice in the library. I checked the tags several times. It is the same for each album.

  When I'm traveling finder and check records to iTunes there is only one folder with the name of artists, containing all the music.

  So, how can it be? I have really no idea what's wrong right now.

  The key field is the artist (obviously), but you can also check the Album artist field, which is used for sorting.  Looks like you are using the sight of artists to show your iTunes library, but it is more useful to use the sight of songs (simple list with columns) for troubleshooting this problem.  If the Album artist column is not a visible column in the view of songs , make it visible (line header right click to show/hide columns) and put it next to the column of the artist (drag to move left/right steering column).

  To ensure that all references to the artist and Album are the same, copy the entry that you want to use for this artists songs.  In a list of songs, select all songs from this artist.  Do a Get Info ( read the informationright click) on the selection.  In the window information from several element, Paste the name of the artist in the fields of the artist and the artist of the Album .  Check the view of the artists .

• Unable to repair the permissions of the library!

  Hello

  I'm pulling my hair out trying to restore access to my library of Photos...

  My photo library is located on a Synology NAS. After update macOS Sierra, I would lose permanently the connection to my NAS. Someone on another thread said to use SMB instead of the AFP for file transfer services. I did, and the connection has remained stable; However, since any attempt to open the pictures gives me an error message "repair permissions Library" and wrote "this library is locked or you don't have permissions to make changes. Photos can try to repair the permissions'.» I try to repair the library, and after about 20 minutes, I get "error repair permissions.

  Finally, I opened the console to see what was going on, and that's what I saw when the error occurred:

  Library Permission repair failed: error Domain = RKRepairLibraryPermissions Code = UserInfo '(null)' 3 = {NSUnderlyingError = 0x61800025ecf0 {error Code Domain = com.apple.library - repair.error = 4 "(null)"}}

  If anyone can decode this to give me a clue as to what is happening and how to fix it? Or is there any other suggestions?

  My photo library is located on a Synology NAS

  Photos is not compatible with the NAS volumes.  Photos libraries need to be located on an OS X Extended (journaled) formatted volume.

  So, copy the library on a volume formatted correctly and open it with Photos.  You may need to repair the library by launching it with the command and Option keys.

  Mac Tips Please! I bought an EHR to move my entire photo library like 7yr old MacBook is full to the brim and I need to backup my phone as his shattered and needs sending out of fixing!

  Now, it won't save my picture library on DHM (to remove Mac) as some pic (s?) (among the 35000) are corrupt (but I have no idea of who or how many). I tried to restore the library several times, but then it freezes and says it cannot open the library, it can in fact - but not when restoring it.

  I have now to turn my new SMT in another time machine and saved everything on there. Should I try and remove my library on Mac and then restore from time machine? What this will do to my corrupted files? And it is likely to be able to register then EHD?

  Photo, not iPhoto uses...

  What size is the drive?  For Photos, it may be only Mac OS extended (journaled)

  and you can't have photo library on the same amount of time Machine backup

  You can probably clone the library for the EHD with SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner or other clone software

  Since the last update to iTunes 12.3.3.17 I get some of my iBook appears in iTunes. I remove it from the library and the next time I open iTunes, they reappear. I think it could be related to iBooks now use iCloud but if anyone has any help, I know you.

  These appear to have been fixed in the latest version of iTunes (Version 12.4).

• Orphans of photos in the library, how to locate?

  Hi, I recently noticed that some of my videos exist in the library of photo.app but I can't find them anywhere. I checked:

  1. Moments
  2. Album "all photos".
  3. I tried to find them with a search by their file name box
  4. I tried to locate them on the map.
  5. I checked 'Hidden' album
  6. I recently checked "deleted" album

  So, it seems that there is no such thing as these videos, but if I try to import I get a notice in duplicate and it shows me that this same exact file is already imported to the library. I checked the master library folder in the Finder and it's there.

  I tried to rebuilt Photos.app library yesterday, but nothing seems to change, the videos are not yet found nowhere iCloud library status is stuck on "Update"... ", so, don't know if it will fix later.

  I want to find what is happening, because it can have other pictures and videos which disappeared.

  Maybe there's a way to dive into the database from photo library and check there?

  Also information on how find and duplicate detection work will be appreciated (looks like they check in different parts of the library).

  Using iCloud photo library? Which adds an additional level of detection of duplicates when syncing with iCloud.

  Photos is pretty smart when checking for duplicates during the import.

  When I try to import the exactly the same image file or video twice, I get a warning, if I want to import the duplicate.  If I insist and import a second time, Photos will show the image or empty twice in the next moments, but it will be like using "duplicate".  There will be two different versions of the photo, but the original image file are only saved once in the Masters folder.

  And when I rename the image file before you import the same photo again, pictures don't inspire me not an´bout double, but it still won't matter the image file a second time.  It will just create a second, linked to the first original file version and ignore the new file name.

  So, try the following to find the original of your video an orphan:

  • Photos of quit smoking.
  • Drag the video out of the folder control on your desktop, and then reimport the photos.  If you see a warning about duplicates, ignore it and import however.
  • Now drag the video in the folder of masters to where you moved since.

  Now ctrl and the 'last import' open album click on the imported video. Select 'display in the moment '. That is telling the new side-side with the original import?  Compare filenames, dates, places.

• New laptop - you see is not the local copy of the library

  I've always had my library (500 GB) on a USB external drive. This has never caused a problem for several years.

  I recently got a new laptop (Lenovo X 250 Windows 7) and I'm working through the implementation. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes... went in the preferences... selected the former library on my external drive folder... nothing. iTunes don't even see.

  After some research on these forums, I followed plan, hold the SHIFT key while opening iTunes to force it to create a new library on the hard disk external. I did it. Then, as indicated, I moved all my media in the newly created iTunes Media folder. Progress! iTunes can now 'see' the library... but all the content is marked with the meaning of the cloud logo I need to download it. So, if I do not have wifi... I can't play any content, even if it is attached everything locally.

  I did a test and click download on a song. The result was iTunes there duplication in my local library by adding a '1' after the title of the song. I checked all the multimedia files are indeed still on the local disk - they are not lost.

  Suggestions on how to get iTunes to consider this as a local library?

  If your entire library was starting with the outside so it should be possible to get it working again. If this isn't the case, you can ensure that you build it correctly this time.

  Regarding duplicates see Re: deletion of duplicates in the library. Note that everything in the media folder must be connected to iTunes first for this script to work.
