The local Boolean Variable vs Boolean reference

I always spent Boolean values through local variables, but I just came across a Subvi, which passes a Boolean reference that then feeds a property node that sets the property "Value" of the value Boolean false.  What are the benefits of using the reference like this instead of simply pass the Boolean value in and out of the sub - VI?  Thank you.

Writing to the Value with a refnum property updates the value in the VI calling at this time rather than wait the Subvi in the end and update the results of the indicator.  I use them for simple façade, infrequent updates on one background Subvi when a queue or the Notifier is excessive.

What do you mean by you always pass bool with local variables?

  • Global variables are accessible from the local computer

While he was trying to use RT project, I can deploy the file to the RT target and communicate with the host using a shared variable.

But the host VI file returns an error stating that the shared in the pattern-block VI host variable is illegal.

(RT.lvib\Link reqd\ 'shared variable' node is illegal)

It also gives a description mentioning that global variables are accessible only to local machines.

    What is the cure?

    Hi Shan21,

I think your problem with communication between the aim of RT and the host PC might be caused by how your deployment of your variables. Please take a look at the following and let me know what you think,

    Kind regards

    ******************************************************************************************************************************************

When you make the executable of a project using shared variables, you must have a local copy of the variables on the deployment computer that are then linked to the 'real' shared variables stored on the target - cRIO, in this case.

This means that the display of your project should look like this:

Note: Two libraries, which can have variables with the same name because they aren't both on the local computer.

    The steps required are:

    1. create variables shared in the normal Manor on the cRIO:

    a. right click on the target
    b. new > Variable
    c. properties of the variables enter the name (stop); Data type (Boolean) and the Variable type (always in network-published).

    2. create variables shared on the host PC:
    a. follow the steps 1 a - c
    b. right click on the box to enable anti-aliasing

    c. linking to the URL of the PSP, click on Browse - and select variable on the target:

    d. click Ok.

Note: Remember also to deploy the shared manually variable llb. See the related links for more information.

It's from a base of knowledge to write soon.

  • Boolean reference table

How do I create an array of Boolean reference?

    Steve

    Hi 4BoysDad,

You are eager to create an array of Booleans in LabVIEW?

If so, you can place a constant matrix down, then place a Boolean constant inside the empty array. This will turn it into an array of data type Boolean. Then you can stretch the table to add/remove the number of items in the table (or use the up/down arrows index).

If you try to do that in something else than LabVIEW, let me know.

Also, for any future reference your post will get more action if you post them in the appropriate sub-forum. This forum is for our DSA material, post it in the forum LabVIEW will result in faster responses.

  • By the way the local variable to sous-suite

    I have a sequence that sets a local variable, Locals.LowPassFreqGhz = 1,800.

    Then it executes 5 subsequences.

The Local is set to a new value and then the same 5 subsequences are re-run.

Now I have new model numbers where the pair is different and will soon have models where there are groups of 4 frequencies instead of two. That is why I would like to put the 5 seqs in a following and pass the freq based on a select statement. In my limited understanding and knowledge of TestStand, I think that the sous-suite would have its own Local.variables. How should I move this local to a sous-suite, convert a File.global?

    Thank you

    JVH

The subsequence could have its own inhabitants, but you must use the parameters to pass to residents for the most part in the subsequence. See Chapter 1 of the section and the reference of TestStand sequences on manual.

  • Boolean (reference), and boolean are incompatible

    Hello

I have a sub VI who receives a reference to a Boolean input.

I need this reference to monitor the State of the Boolean input throughout the operation of the Sub VI.

The entrance is a stop button. The VI is supposed to frequently check the condition of the stop button, and in case it is true, stop its actions.

I put the refnum class be boolean, as follows (your language may vary):

In order to get the value of the reference, I just click on-> create-->--> the value property node.

It is the way I learned to get the properties of things.

It creates one of these smaller blocks of property node.

However, this value is not usable. When I try to connect it to an OR logical operator, LV complains of incompatible types.

Aparently a Boolean value (reference) can be compared to a Boolean value.

That makes no sense to me.

    Could someone there explain please?

    Why is there a difference?

    There is another option available:

Make a right-click on the reference-> create-> property for the (strict) Boolean class-> value.

This creates a regular block of property node, with a Boolean value can be used.

This value is preset to display the correct properties.

What I got to the entrance of the this thread property node reference?

Or is this 'connected' to the reference in the same way as the other node 'Wireless '?

Please see image below which shows the two ways to retrieve the value:

    Thank you for your help

    Hi max,.

your property node type 'A' is not for a Boolean control, it seems to represent a reference as the value.

Edit: you have created a property node for your reference control. The "value" of this reference control will be of type 'reference' - no matter what the reference should point to. You need to connect cable a property node generic in the palette of functions to your control reference!

When you want to use 'generic' property nodes: right-click your Boolean control and "create-> reference. For this reference, you can create a control to get a reference appropriate control!

  • By the way the local variable to a default module

    I use LV 8.6 and TS 4.1.

I made a custom step Type where I specified a default Module to run and I created a substep VI Edit that the user can move the entry to the default maodule.

If I pass a value it is working properly. So, I want to pass a local variable, so I have a button in the edict Vi, which displays the property browser dialog box I get the name of the selected local variable. How can I pass the local variable to the default input module? (The value of the local variable is installed during the execution of the sequence).

    Thank you.

    Max.

    Hello

Yes, I see what your problem is.

If I am proving a means of suppling a variable as a fixed value or a search string then in my step type I organize the property as a container that contains two properties, one to hold the value and one the search string.

If you don't have what it takes to change your step types, then you must indicate another to contain this search string, IE a local / fileglobal / global station. Or store it in the memory of your labview. None of them are ideal, as it is best to keep the properties of the step in the step.

  • FOR loop does not update the local Variable

I am newer to labview, and I can't wrap the head around why not a habit of local variable to update in the code if it updates on the dashboard. Anything im missing?

Assume that you are talking about the local variable of the 'State of the cell. The terminal updates every 500ms in the small top loop, the local variable indicates simply that the indicator and thus updates also.

The problem is "dataflow" and you need to familiarize yourself with the concept!

Once the while loop starts, the local variable is reading and inside the loop begins. Most likely, the local variable is read before it is updated in the small loop, so most likely returns the value of a fade on the first iteration of the while loop. Now the small loop continues to go twice per second for about five seconds. Only after the loop FOR (and everything else inside the while loop) completed, the while loop will go to the next iteration, date on which the local variable is read once more, this time with the last value of the last for loop iteration of the previous iteration of the while loop.

In summary, the local variable updates very well, it's just that the code does not read the new value around most of the time.

Your VI is full also potential competition conditions caused by the over-use of the local variable. You need to respect the proper execution order by eliminating local variables.

So what is the solution? Hard to say without knowing what the VI is supposed to do. Most likely, you will need to remove the inside OF the loop and use it outside while loop for everything.

  • Use LR5. Because of volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. When opening LR5 it references only the local hard disk. How can I change the refernce to read the external drive. Thank you

Use LR5, due to volume and the size of the photos, I use an external hard drive. LR refers only the Local Drive C not outside. Where do I change this by LR read the external drive. Grateful for the help.

    Thank you

LR is not a file Explorer. He knows only the disks that you imported photos of.

If you have previously imported these photos, then later moved into the external hard drive, go to the library files and "update location" Panel on the files that you moved.

If you have never imported these images on the external hard drive, perform an import by using the option 'Add' (not ' copy') to keep the images on the external hard drive during import.

  • dDocName in the resultset object gets a higher than the local variable preference: unable to set dDocName by linking using Idoc Script

    Hello

I have the following code built using idocScript

    < $dDocName = $NomVariable >

    < $executeService ("DOC_INFO_BY_NAME") $ >

Note: NomDeLaVariable value contentID for that 'DOC_INFO_BY_NAME' has to be executed.

When I run this, I see that DOC_INFO_BY_NAME is getting executed for an ID of previous content that he was 'dDocName '. In other words, after allocation

    < $dDocName = $NomVariable >

    Does not take effect.

I think that the value is not updated in the binder. How can I fix it.

It is bit urgent, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Steven K.

rsBlogPostings (copy of results of research) already has dDocName column and when you call executeService in a loop, resultset a preference on the local data. (I faced something similar and had no luck with #local.dDocName)

    (1) you can renmae the dDocname column in the rsBlogPostings using rsRenameField

    (2) if it does not, create your own loop as below

    <$iCountEnd =="" rsnumrows("rsblogpostings"),="" icountstart="1$">

    <$exec rsfirst("rsblogpostings")$="">

    <$loopwhile lcountstart=""><= lcountend$="">

    <$postAuthorImageEntry = ="" ssincludexml(rsblogpostings.ddocname,="" "blog_entry/authorimage/node()")$="">

    ...

    ...

    <$dDocName=authorContentID$>

    <$executeService("DOC_INFO_BY_NAME")$>

    <$exec rsnext("rsblogpostings")$="">

    <$lCountStart =="" lcountstart="" +="" 1$="">

    <$endloop$>

  • Access the different level variable?

Normally, I declare a variable at the top of all my code as, var myObj: Myobj = new nouvelles();...

but for some reason any the the new declared variable is required to give in the service, as showing the same objects in the library in assistance for loop.

I noticed this variable declared within a function are not accessible outside the function an event handler or another function...

    I've seen code that make possible my declaring a new variable? like:var mc:MovieClip = MovieClip (e.currentTarget); var mc:anotherObj =anotherObj(e.target);

How all these works? Thanks in advance.

It is called range - variables are in scope. He recalled how the rest of the program can display variables. Basically, there are two kinds of scope - local and global. When you declare a variable inside a function, it has local scope, and only the code within the function can refer to the variable. Variables declared outside functions have a global scope, and any function can refer to them.

When you do var myVar:String;  you declare the variable.

When you come to myVar = without the var in front, you reference the variable already declared.
