The operation on the file "/... /... vmdk ' failed

I have a single file (DevMachine - 000003.vmdk to be exact) a computer virtual disk set that has an old date on it for 12 hours before the other drives.  That date seems to be the last time a snapshot has occurred.  Now I can start the virtual machine, but when starting the virtual machine the Win 7 it can never get fully active or dies.  I have attached the full error messages.  I restarted to ensure that memory is not a problem. Attached are the support files and images of the error if someone can help me eventually.  Incident support paid in VMWare has now no answer for 5 hours and I'm getting desperate as billable hours slip away.  Thank you very much.

Full of the error:

The operation on the file "/ Volumes/Data/FusionVM/CU Fusion.vmwarevm/Dev Machine - 000003.vmdk ' failed.

If the file is located on a remote file server, make sure that the network connection and the server where this residesare disk works properly. If the file is saved on a removable medium, link media.

Select Retry to retry the operation.

Click Cancel to end this session.

Select continue to pass the error to the guest operating system.

Fusion 5.0.3

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi dodegaardand welcome to the VMware communities!

Looks like 750 GByte HDD Toshiba your MacBook Pro is a failure.  You should probably have the hard drive tested (and replaced if necessary) and checked before attempting to retrieve your VM.

    Hi Robrw,

    1. when exactly you receive this error?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

You can try to rename the catroot2 folder and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    a. Click Start and in run type C:\windows\system32 and click ok

    b. find the Catroot2 folder. Right-click on Catroot2 and rename it to Catroot2.old

If you are not able to do the normal mode, try to start in safe mode and rename

Check out the link for more information on starting your computer in SafeMode below:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

    Step 2:

If you are unable to access the catroot2 folder, and then try to change the permissions on the files and check if it helps.

    See the following article:

How to capture a file or a folder in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/308421

    Step 3:

You can also try to temporarily disable third-party security software and firewalls and check what is happening.

Note: Activate the security software after the resolution of the problem.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • How can I recover the files of failed hard drive

    Hello

Apparently, my hard drive failed on my HP.  I'm running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
I get a black screen that says "disk error, press ctrl + atl + del to restart".
Given that it is a 7 year old computer, I don't see the need to put a lot of effort in intensive care there.
But I would like to get some of the files on the hard drive.
Can anyone suggest a way to access the contents of the hard drive?  I would like to get some Word, excel, PDF files.  Nothing major.
    Thank you

    Hello

If the drive has indeed failed then you need professional services which are very expensive. Best
method would be to contact your local computer store, the other his own service in-house, and have
check out them the disc. Eventually, they can recover your files and they know all local professional
    services available in your area.

  • Operation failed on the file "*.vmdk.

I'm relatively new to VMWare, but have been using it to access my admin area machine now for a few months with no problems.

Earlier this week, we had some electrical problems, and since then I get this error.

The machine can stay here without problems if I do nothing, but once I have work for a few minutes the error rears its head.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Which command line option did you use? You can try chkdsk d: /f /r

At the level of the operating system, go to each of these directories and do a ls - rtl | tail and ls - rtl | head and, finally, ls-l | WC - l. That should give you an idea of what files are written last, and who is the oldest, and how they are. You can also watch the larger (and you may need to search recursively to find the real directories being written). You will need to decide what to do with them. See your system administrator and ask why she has not followed to use the space.

  • Error message from the computer - SHWICONXP9106 - Load Configuration of the file has failed

I got my Windows 7-64 bit system, which is now 13 months old, lock upwards and closed twice in a week.  I get a strange error message that says "SHWICONXP9106 - load Configuration File Failed".  It seems that this is a card I ever use.  It is a work computer that I rarely do anything whether online with.  He did re - starts and begins to funny click on my Tower.  It takes in telling the system to start windows normally and after stopping power, twice, I can get it to restart very well.  can someone let me know if I need to get a new hard drive again?  This system is only 13 months old?

If you do not, you might want to see if it can be disabled at startup:

    1. Press simultaneously on key Windows + R .

    2. type MSConfig in the box, and then click OK.

    3. Select the Startup tab.

    4. find SHWICONXP9106 (if its there) & uncheck the box against it. Click OK.

5 reboot & see what happens.

Select continue to pass the error to the guest operating system.

When I click Retry, the message opens again.

When I click on cancel, it stops.

When I click on continue, the message appears again.

In the internet I've found solutions for mac systems, but I have a Windows 7 system. And btw, the virtual machine is win xp if it is relevant.

  • Operation failed because the file already exists

    Hello

I have a quick question and I don't know how to fix it.

I used VMWare vCenter to migrate and existing virtual machine, he got stuck and failed.

I went to Virtual Infrastructure delete the virtual machine but for some reason still exist some files and I see the files allocated for this purpose.

I tried to migrate it again and I get the following error

Operation failed because the file already exists

    Cannot create disk virtual /vmfs/volues/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/FreeBSD/FreeBSD.vmdk

How can I manually delete this file (s)?

    Thank you

    Paulo

Is it possible that I can manually delete these files?

One way is using the data store browser (right click on the data store and select Browse).

Same thing here, iMac with OS X 10.11.6. All started a couple days ago. Have not found any valid solution online yet, I tried rebooting in recovery mode and check disk, but it seems that everything is ok with the drives and permissions.
