The Printers window in my control panel is empty despite the printers installed recently.
I just installed a new Epson multifunction printer and although I can send a fax to it, I can't print. When I check the "Printers" window under control panel, it is empty. I suspect that there is something wrong/missing in my XP so I tried to fix it from the disk, which was the OEM for this office of 3 years. (It came with Vista and XP, but I chose to stay with the good old XP SP2 + 3), which is usually very reliable. I can't launch the R for repair from disk that IPL on disk is different than on the XP installed. I have SP2 OEM more SP3. Thank you in anticipation of your help. Pete
Hello
1. what exactly happens when you try to print? You receive an error message?
2. What is the number of the printer model?

Power options in the control panel are empty - can't do anything.
Recently, I noticed that the Power Options in the control panel is empty. I can't create something or do something there. Could something in Services.msc have disabled this? Nowhere part that I should look at? I cannot stop, restart, or put it to sleep. Also when I start the computer (once using the hardware Reset button on the computer case) he does not remember my user name. He asks me every time. There is no password. I just press ENTER after entering my user name.
So I found the magic formula to use the command run and it resets everything back to normal. Can't find it now but if you google it you can find. You want to reset the Power Options in the control panel.
His time, I have contributed something here! I'm always ask questions and rarely give all the answers. :)

Trying to clean up the hard drive, among other things, I found the following in files
XP [start /control Control Panel / Add or remove programs / currently installed programs and updates]
22 updates for ms office 2003 dating from 22/01/2007.
8 updates for the 2007 office system compatibility pack that goes back to the 10/02/2010
190 updates for Windows XP, which dates back to the 29/06/2006
6 updates for windows xp media center edition 2005, which dates back to the 29/06/2006
Are all these necessary, and if not, how can I do to clean them?
Thank you.
Hi Renee-me,
I recommend that you do not uninstall the updates that are installed on your computer.
Windows Update makes the secure PC and helps run smoothly.
For more information, refer to this link: Windows Update
We suggest to delete the Windows updates only in troubleshooting an issue that may have been caused by an update. Refer to KB 310312 for more information on how to use the disk cleanup to free up space on the hard disk.
Hope the helps of information.

I'm a bit of a technophobe, but I'll try to explain my problem, I got better. I recently had a problem with Windows 8 and refreshed my system. After refreshing, I installed AVG Anti-virus and that's where my problems really started. After installing AVG I have no sound and my control panel usually pop up. The box is displayed but there is nothing in it and it sorts just of sticks, frozen. I tried the fixes recommended to fix my sound. The speaker in my taskbar icon has a red x on it and when I try to open it it goes right to the problem-solving mode, then comes up with "one or more of the audio service is not running. When I try "run services.msc' and try to start Windows Audio through Services I get error 0x800706cc. I tried to uninstall AVG and reboot, but it did make a difference. Please help, this leads me to the madness now. Nothing I try seems to work!
Installation of AVG is when the problems started, I would start by undoing that. Since the normal uninstall did not help, use system restore to return to a work situation. Check here and use the #1 option.

Windows Search / Immersive Control Panel / AppData Error Message
I have a new laptop HP Envy delivered pre-installed with Windows 8.1 on a hard drive traditional.
Immediately on starting it the first time, I connected a SSD to the laptop via a USB cable and used imaging software to drive provided by Samsung to the HARD whole to the new/empty SSD disk image.
Returned & replaced the HDD SSD w / in 1 Bay drive, followed by placing the original HARD drive (but now secondary) in the 2 Bay drive.
I wanted to re - map the 'My Documents' folder on the SSD to store files in this folder on the secondary HARD drive, so I remapped this ("c:\users\Brad\Documents") folder to point to 'f:\users\Brad\Documents' instead.
"So move on, for some reason, when I go to the desktop search item and try, for example, to search for"Remove Apps", which translates by he find something like"Uninstalling apps to save hard drive space"or something like that, and I click on uninstall apps to save hard disk space", I get a message similar to the following :
[Window title]
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanelcw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US\Classic{4026492f-2f69-46b8-b9bf-5654fc07e423}.settingcontent-ms

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.I'm not sitting on my laptop right now, but I found the info. top online and there are very close to the error msg. I get, except that instead of "c:\Users\bmccollum\AppData\...". ", the title of the GMS. I get begins with "f:\Users\bmccollum\AppData\...". ». I don't remember remapping anywhere at all outside the location of 'My Documents', then why is this research activity trying to seek the "AppData" folder on my hard drive secondary now?
This same error msg occurs when I am looking for another couple of points, but above all what I find and click work.
For two items that I seek and I click on the element are, and I get this error message, if I go to the elements of the "long way" but just clicking 'Control Panel' or anything else and keep them on the street from there, items open fine, it's just when I try to click on a few items after that I looked for something they are not w / the same error msg from above.
I searched around online and have tried the trick of "rebuild indexes" and this seems to fix errors related to research for just a little, then a few minutes later I can look for the same thing that was previously the 'Immersive Control Panel' error and bam, it is back again with this similar to one already mentioned msg.
Something seems to be pointing to "AppData" being on my drive 'f' (secondary) when I don't think I moved anything but my "my documents" of primary transmission 'c' to secondary drive "f".
I'm quite lost. Any other ideas on what may be the cause/solution for this?
Thanks in advance.
Hey @zildjian ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are having problems with the paths to files on your Envy laptop.
The most important thing here is that looks like you have cloned the drive, but not the format of the original HARD disk. This will cause a plethora of problems because you now have 2 boot managers and repositories of operating system file. Windows will have a fit over this.
I suggest copy important information from the HARD drive to an external drive or for SSD and formatting the drive. This will wipe the Windows installation and free up additional space. From there, you can create a Documents folder and map the folder accordingly.
You remap F:\Users\Brad\Documents by adding it to the document library or did you use the move feature tab in the properties of the Documents folder location?
Please try the original function of HARD drive and test development shaped.

Original title: repair Windows scam - Can can't Access Control Panel or workstation
My system has been recently infected with "Windows" repair"virus. I managed to delete using Super Anti-Spyware, but all my desktop shortcuts are gone (hidden) so I downloaded "Unhide.exe" and get all my shortcuts. Most of them seems to be working as before, but there are a few, such as 'My Computer', ' Panel, "My Documents", or even "Windows Explorer", which I can't access.» When I try to open them, I get this popup box saying "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" how much he out me of my office of kicks.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Brian
The best way to solve this maybe just create a new user account, transfer your personal data to this account, and then delete the old account. Make sure that you perform the system restore after you did the new account and everything works fine. To purge the system restore, simply disable it then again. Be aware that the creation of a new user account is not the means to get rid of malware. But it is perhaps the best way to get rid of some of the after effects. However, I recommend you scan with Malwarebytes before running these instructions. After scanning you may not create the new account.
In addition, Jose is correct. Good number of new forms of malware prevent the start in safe mode. Trying to force booting in SafeMode with msconfig, you end up with a boot loop.

No access to windows update in Control Panel. Have Windows XP SP3.
Problem just started yesterday. Receive the error message. In past Board always used to access windows update. Now have to go to internet explore and navigate through drop-down security. 1. do you get an error message when you try to access the control panel Windows updates?
2. you have made no changes to the computer before the broadcast took place?

Hello, MontFly
While Ramesh Srinivasan, information on how to solve such a problem is - as always - very useful, it might be useful to examine exactly why a user observes this behavior. This can happen for several reasons, and the problem is common enough that Microsoft has produced a Fixit (50542) automated troubleshooting for Windows XP which is widely applicable for Vista and 7 FixIt 50542 appear in both article KB266668 "Add / Remove Programs displays incorrectly installed programs' and also via the options appropriate to the CARPET (Microsoft Automated troubleshooting solutions) Fixit Center (where much) many other problems can also be addressed to 'automatically').
Users who want to understand some technical aspects behind this problem may wish to read the
Seven sons of Forums "Windows 7: Control Panel, uninstall programs"and the thread in Forum Windows "programs installed lack of features & programs in the control panel".»
I find that users experience more common four reasons have this problem on their computers
to do with poorly written program from 3rd party installers and/or uninstall programs, injudicious use of the features of Piriform "registry cleanup" CCleaner & other "registry cleaners", aggressive interaction of solutions anti-virus installed programs and/or the Windows operating system and infection by malicious software. I would be so bold to ask which antivirus program you use?

I don't think you can with XP Home, but you can hide or show the cmdlets specified by group policy in Windows XP Pro Control Panel. The following article was written for Windows 2000, but should work in XP Pro:
