the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

Hi, hope someone can help with this,

I am running windows vista basic 32-bit on a dell inspiron 1520

I received several messages a day saying "superfetch has stopped working" or "windows search protocol has stopped working" I was advised to run sfc/scannow from command prompt I did the sfcdetails read as follolws.

2010-09-15 13:55:16, Info CSI 00000185 [SR] cannot repair the military record [l:24 {12}] "cryptsvc.dll" Microsoft-Windows-cryptsvc-dll, Version = 6.0.6002.18005, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, type neutral, TypeName neutral, neutral public key in the store, file is missing "

Following the advice of another thread, I extracted the file from my Vista DVD and stored in c:\windows\temp, but when I try to copy in c:\windows\system32 I get a message saying that the file is being used by another process.

I'm not sure what the file is still so I don't know how use it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

The file in the folder system32 first TakeOwnership. Then copy from a command prompt with admin rights:

    Hi Robrw,

    1. when exactly you receive this error?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

You can try to rename the catroot2 folder and check if it helps.

    Step 1:

    a. Click Start and in run type C:\windows\system32 and click ok

    b. find the Catroot2 folder. Right-click on Catroot2 and rename it to Catroot2.old

If you are not able to do the normal mode, try to start in safe mode and rename

Check out the link for more information on starting your computer in SafeMode below:

    Step 2:

If you are unable to access the catroot2 folder, and then try to change the permissions on the files and check if it helps.

    See the following article:

  • Error: "the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." when treid to install the device driver

Original title: Windows cannot install the drivers

I had a lot of trouble installing the drivers on my Windows computer.  I went straight in the Device Manager and deleted the devices I tried to install and reinstalled them, I went into safe mode, I got Windows to run the console and only the basic process and run from there Device Manager... no matter what I do the same mistake.

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

Even after a restore of the system, he did this, and I don't know what to do anymore.  Only devices that have been previously installed work.

What's more important install my Blackberry software because my phone is broken.  The software cannot detect my phone because the drivers have not been installed.  Most of the devices I can use with Linux (I have Windows Vista and Ubuntu running on the same computer), but RIM don't make Blackberry for Linux software, so I have to do it on Windows.

    How can I fix?

    Hello

It is the result of malware, then do a very thorough check and when the system is
clean see the following message to remove this error.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

It can be made repeatedly in Mode safe - F8 tap that you start, however, you must also run
the regular windows when you can.

  • executable files: cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

    Hello
I created a file named test.bat on my desk
baptized "test.bat" and sent the notebook, wrote "REM" and recorded.
so, I closed my notebook and reopened, has added another "REM" and saved the file again.
then I tried to rename, move the file to another folder and delete
    everything went without any problems.

But if I create the file and run it, the command prompt will appear for a while and then disappear.
I can rename or move the file without any problem,
But if I try to edit the file in Notepad, I get this error:

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

and the file is not saved.

also, if I try to delete the file, it seems to be deleted until I press F5, the file appears again.
When you try to rename/move this new file, I get another error:

    File Access Denied

You need permission to perform this action

You need the permission of the administrator of the computer to make changes
    in this file

It seems the file is opened (or if I choose to delete) after a few minutes, then it is not if I try to access
the file (I kept pressing F5 every few seconds for 15 minutes and the file is missing)

the problem appears if occuar with any file name, anywhere, not just the office or home by car, not even on the same disk,
while I had no problem when I started in an old installation of windows xp and repeat the same steps.

I tried to use the sysinternals utility handle, that's what I have:

    Hi VeronicaSanchez,

We will put the computer in a clean boot state to identify the application at the root of this problem.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

  • Cannot access a file because it is locked (running ESXi)

I managed to work around this problem by restarting the ESXi host, so it's not critical.

I had a case where I couldn't start a virtual machine because its files were always locked by a process running on the ESXi host that was running at the origin of the VM.

I know that with the ordinary ESX hosts, there is a procedure to kill the process that still has the locked files.  However, with ESXi I do not have a console to connect to.

Not to mention that the computer restarting host physical ESXi, how can you find a process and end it on a locked files VM ESXi host?

    Thank you!

    -Tim

You do not have to restart the ESXi host, but you will need to use the UNSUPPORTED as Nick shell.  Once you do, you can use ps to find the process and kill to kill the process.  You can enable ssh as well, but who would need to display the console not supported first then edit le/etc/inetd.conf.

You must use ps - auwwwx | grep VMname on all ESXs.

Then, you can use kill command (if the virtual machine does not respond).

When I click it, I get this message, "Photo Gallery cannot open this picture because it is being edited in another program." I do not understand this because everything I've done is add a tag or two. I have not tried the image in a different way.

my computer did not always do this; He has recently started to happen. Sometimes when I turned my computer off and then turn it back on, some of the pictures will be open, but not all of them.

Anyone who can answer this question will be appreciated greatlly.

    Just a few ideas...

If it is a recent issue,... it may be worth trying to do
a restore of the system at a time before everything started.

Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore

If you run Windows Photo Gallery... it can
be worth a try to download and install Windows Live
    Photo Gallery:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Download Windows live Photo Gallery
    http://explore.live.com/Windows-Live-Photo-Gallery
(There are other applications included in the download...
Uncheck the ones you don't want)

And... no guarantee... but Microsoft following
'Fix' might be worth a try:
