  Yes. Saved on recovery discs recovery image contains the operating system, all necessary drivers, specific Toshiba and utility tools and some additional software.

  Preinstalled Toshiba Recovery creator make recovery disc that includes the recovery image only. It has nothing to do with your personal data.

  When you use the recovery disc for your laptop recovery image installation will have factory settings which include the recovery saved on the HARD disk image. To be honest I do not understand why you do not want to have this recovery image on the HARD drive. This allows the installation of recovery using recovery of HARD drive option. But of course you can delete it later for more free space on your HARD drive. Installation image that you can always use created for recovery discs-recovery DVDs.

  Well, since the computer came with Vista, then the recovery partition will be of no other value to reinstall Vista, which I assume is not what is wanted.  If the Windows 7 install disk is always available, then reinstall Windows 7 on this disc and new departure.  Was the original Vista 32 bit and the new Windows 7 64-bit, so is not "upgrade was/is possible, but a new install anyway."  As the other 64-bit programs have been added after the upgrade to Windows 7, installers will need to be rerun to get install them after you have reinstalled Windows 64-bit.  Otherwise, the Acronis image can be used.  Unless HP has published this same model computer with Windows 7 64-bit, there is no HP support and hense no recovery partition.   Hi, my sister has a 2008 Equium A200-1V0 with Vista 32-bit, that no longer starts (probably due to damage of rootkit virus). It loads the BIOS but then goes to black screen with blinking cursor.

  F2 goes to Phoenix TrustedCore Setup utility. The Toshiba hard drive and a CD-ROM drive are listed in hand and start in the right order.

  Using F12 I can get it to boot from a Win7 64 bit repair disc that I burned using my laptop.
