The service "wuauserv" (automatic updates) does not work correctly

The service 'wuauserv' uses constantly between 88 and 95% of my CPU, slowing down my computer to the point that it is almost unusable, so I've been suspending or disabling the process 'wuauserv' every time I use my computer.

In addition, Windows Update does not, if "wuauserv" is suspended or not.
It prevents just check the latest updates and never stops to do that no matter how long wait.

Well, I managed to solve the problem.

I followed the instructions on this page: http://workingscripts.blogspot.com/2008/05/windows-update-high-cpu-usage-fix.html

Immediately after that, Windows Update and the automatic updates service finally started working again. It has been almost two weeks since I fixed it and have not had a problem since.

I didn't format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP for this problem - I have never done this because it does not seem necessary.

And I do not see how this relatively recent automatic updates problem never touched my other problem Installation of Internet Explorer years discussed in my other thread.

  • XP3 XP Fix-it-center will implement with success, automatic updates does not work

First of all, I tried to download and install MS-Fix - It.

When I try to run the installer, I get this error:

I researched and found some people do not have the current version of windows install and had a similar problem.  I tried to run Windows update (which usually runs automatically), but I was unable to install the activex control. 2. Yes.
    3 IE7
    4 Google
    No. 5 a & b.
    6 NO.
    7. YES... In Add/Remove Programs, I have the following: Windows live essentials, Windows live sign-in assistant [and] live Windows Update tool.

#7 ah, explains a little bit & offers at least a glimmer of hope.

Background: Since one or more Windows Live Essentials (for example, Windows Live Messenger;) Windows Live Mail) were already installed IE8 is offered at your computer, auto update installed the MSN/Bing-optimized version of IE8 (although it was not called that at the time). Then your more later misguided (IMHO) use of registry cleaners (for example, CCleaner) removed his token of your User-Agent string - with at least another token (i.e., .NET Framework version 1.x).

Pass, if this peut be fixed, this should fix:

[You can print these instructions for reference offline.  [If a procedure says to restart, restart!]

    ACTIONS:

1 right-click on the link, select SAVE TARGET as... and Save the installer for the 'vanilla' of IE8 for WinXP for your dekstop version - do not RUN it! -online http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/C/0/CC0BD555-33DD-411E-936B-73AC6F95AE11/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3 uninstall Windows Internet Explorer 8 via Add/Remove Programs & reboot twice.  [Trust me]

Note: Ignore any warnings "such and such might not work if...". "- everything will be fine.

    4. immediately after the second time restarts, double-click the file that you saved in #1 above to install the 'vanilla' of IE8 version; Follow all instructions & restart twice again.

Note: Be extremely patient - the whole process could take 10 to 15 minutes or more, even without the second restart. And did not even try to open / use IE8 until after the second restart.

    5. then immediately re-open IE8 (only!) at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com . Select CUSTOM and scan | Install Security updates offered (e.g., KB2675157); Follow all the instructions.

-Online if an update root certificates (KB931125) is listed under the category of updates software optional again, install it to enjoy greater security of IE8.

TIP: As before, do NOT install any other updates software optional or any updated material in option .

    6. test your new version of the feature of IE8 & see if you can select Google as search engine by default now (if it is not already the default).  If you can not, I have another trick or two up my sleeve so hang in there!

    7. in response to this post with a status report. Good luck!

  • My automatic update does not work.

I received this message everytime I open Firefox for quite awhile without realizing exactly what that meant. Now I see that I'm running 6.0, rather than 7.1 and when I click on automatic update, the message I get is: the update could not be installed. Please make sure that there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer and restart Firefox to try again. I have certainly no other copies of Firefox running.

    (2) restart your computer
    (3) run the installation program that you downloaded in step 1

  • The URL bar AutoComplete feature does not work correctly, does anyone else have this problem?

I was running version 9.x and had this problem, so I've just updated to 11 of Firefox, but it does not help.

The problem is that the URL bar doesn't let me type a new address in some cases - preferring instead to refer to a previously visited address. It would be better if I gave an example:

I'm trying to access a site, that I have not visited, for example holden.com.au

I type 'h', and the URL bar suggests that I go to my Hotmail login page (the URL for that starts by of ') and the rest of the extreme Auto (so now I'm in the situation where I have an address in the bar from '). This means that I can not continue to enter the address provided.

Can it be fixed or is it just a question for me?

I solved this problem by going to: setting up and activating/deactivating the browser.urlbar.autoFill layout. I think the default setting has been changed in a recent update.
