The size of a network share of 300 users using Persona management?

I know that it depends on how many things users recorded in their profile, but what is a good rule of thumb to start? I dedicate a file server with a dedicated LUN just for profiles. In addition, this LUN is replicated.

This will include desktop, my documents, etc., or will be pushed to redirect folders, located somewhere else?

  • Windows 7 backup network share, name of user and password set cached?

One of the users in our area decided that it was recommended to configure backup in Windows 7 to save backups to a network share on a Windows 2008 R2 server.

Not a bad idea, however, she got asked to enter his user name and password, which she did.

Now the user keeps getting locked (even if it re - enter the user name and password.)

If it starts a new backup, it seems that the user gets locked immidiatley.

This used to happen from time to time even if we disabled the scheduled backup.

We tried to run rundll32.exe keymgr.dll, KRShowKeyMgr to see if there was something stored we could withdraw, but we could not find anything related to the backup.

    Any input?

(Now I don't know how this is supposed to work, but I don't think that it is a very good solution for companys strict password and passwords expire. It is perhaps mainly designed for the less complicated home networks?)

  • What people are included in "Level 1 Administrator permissions?" when the configuration file and network share permissions?

I'm trying to figure out how to set the level of permissions for my files and folders. But I also understand exceptions to the permissions of level 1 and level 2. I've never used a "network of the computer at work." I've only used a "network of computers at school. So I have only a limited understanding of what means "administrator." At home, when I'm sitting at my computer, which is not connected to a network to work, or school, I'm the 'administrator' on my computer. This is because I created the "user account" through the steps required to create an account on my computer, and I assigned a password to the account. Only, I can read and write to files and folders that I created in the folder "My Documents" from my user account. At least I have change permissions and file sharing, all files and folders in the "My Documents" folder are private (level 1) and no one else can read or write on my files. I have 'full control '.

However, if I'm on a computer at work or at school, even if I am the "owner/creator" of my files and folders, there is another person (my boss or my teacher) for example, which is the 'network administrator.' Presumably, this person has access to my files and folders and share a total control over them. If that's true, how someonewho is not the creator of the file or folder access? If anyone else can have total control over my files and folders at school or work, which keeps an unknown person to access my files and folders on my computer a home. What I mean is this: if I change the permissions to allow someone else to read and write in my files and folders, which prevents an unauthorized person by performing the same steps to access my files and folders? My question is about operating systems, I learn all that is Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista SP2.

  • The final Solution to network shares

I have several Windows 7 in the household, all computers connected to the same router, a Netgear WNDR3700. For simplicity, let's call them 2 A and B, connected by Gigabit Ethernet.

A can access the actions to the B through "network drive mapping. B cannot access the shares on A via 'map network drive', getting access denied messages. The occasion will try to create a folder on one of the actions of B, and gets permission stupid error messages. It goes without saying anything I read on Google until hours of research has solved this problem, that's why this thread exists now.

Here's the thing. All are Windows 7, so they're all on the same network, they all belong to me, all have only accounts directors, each of them must be able to share files between them. It's the fucking 21st century. There is doubt about permissions or "ask your bloody administrator", because I am the administrator. As far as computers are concerned in this House, I'M PANICKING GOD.

Yes, it would be nice to have a special folder for some user accounts permissions, but because I have a real life instead of wasting large amounts of time wrestling with Windows, I'm pulling out all the stops.

    • All sharing is enabled.
    • Password sharing is disabled.
    • Everyone is given permission.
    • On any type of access is set to full control.
    • Total control permissions are given to "Everyone", "Administrators", "Authenticated users", and "". ""
    • User account control is completely disabled.
    • Completely the Windows Firewall is disabled.
    • Microsoft Security Essentials is completely disabled.

And yet, I still get permission denied messages. What kind of sadistic disturbed, Sociopaths have you hired to write Windows 7?

Spare me the waffle, spare me the Pseudo-politesse of your Indian outsourced technicians free feed and give me the definitive answer to annihilate these ridiculous barriers once and for all. The only people who use my network are family members and friends.

At this point, I DO NOT GIVE A BLOODY DAMN about security and confidentiality on networked computers. I want unimpeded AND unfettered ACCESS BETWEEN all COMPUTERS on THE NETWORK.

    That's all. Please notify.

Two computers in question (the one with the sharing of files) and you are trying to connect to the share of this file must be on the same subnet of the same network...   If you run ipconfig on both systems, this private (assuming here, so correct me if I'm wrong) addresses IP do get?  If it's a private home network, most likely the first three digits of the IP will match.

You used the IP address of the machine (the one with the sharing of files) you want to connect to and the name of the share on this machine?  (Command line ipconfig on the computer that acts as a file server... Assuming that it is a private IP and all these systems are not connected to the public Internet as a whole...  192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x is common in such situations).

You our can also try (given you have):

    NET use \\ip.address.of.server\c$ / user: NetBIOSNameOfServer\UsernameOnServer

    ... With substitutions appropriate.

You have a managed DHCP solution in place?  A Service domain name (DNS) to place or is system - this all being managed by a SOHO router?  (Which gives the IP addresses on the network and if you and IPCONFIG / ALL on each of the machines, which is their DNS on (just pointing to the router in many configurations of SOHO...)?)

I ask these questions because if file sharing is activated and that you entered the Ip address of the machine and not the NetBIOS name and got the share correct too (the "dollars" is the administrative share that is there by default but necessary administrative private to connect to, the dollar sign makes it hidden from casual surfing) so he shouldn't worry about the network as well just to go out and find a system connected with this IP address.

Also, you can connect to the share using the command line (with substitution is appropriate for IP and share name) on THE SERVER itself (seems like a strange thing to try, I know, but it does not check the sharing is on.).

  • The Windows Firewall blocks network share on Windows 7

I'm currently on Windows 7 Pro x 64.  I use the firewall of Windows of Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft.  No firewall AV or additional software is currently installed.  I regularly use the many Xbox 360 to stream media content of this machine on the home network.  In addition, I set up a homegroup to share resources such as printer and fileshares with other machines in the House.  It's all working perfectly until a few weeks ago.  No direct changes to installation other than updates of Microsoft, Adobe (Flash) and Oracle (Java).  Now, unless I turn off the Windows Firewall, my xboxs can not see the sharing machine, and no other network computers can print/share via homegroup.

Currently, discovery network, file sharing of printers and streaming media are disabled and cannot be reactivated.  Check the radio buttons on the first two, then clicking to save does nothing.  I get sent to the network and sharing Center screen, but when I check again options for change advanced sharing settings, the options are returned to the people with reduced mobility.  Media streaming from this screen says it is on (even if this is not the case), but when I select the option to change this, it says it is disabled (which is correct).  By selecting the option to turn on media streaming continuously, does nothing.  I can click constantly with no change.

I ran the Virus Scan free from Symantec online as long as complete system scan MSSE where each is an element, and in each case, the two elements have been removed (for the threat found by Symantec) NPE and (for the number found by MSSE) the MSSE tool.  I also run SFC/scannow and repaired the problem identified.  With two comprehensive analyses of each tool, I am sure that my machine is the threat and corruption free.

In addition, I went through the list of services recommended to 'start' and 'automatic' which was published MANY times by MANY people.  For clarity, I have all these started and set to automatic:

    o computer browser
    o Client DHCP
    o customer DNS
    o network connections
    o knowledge of network locations
    o remote procedure call (RPC)
    o server
    o support TCP/IP Netbios
    o workstation

With all these started, I can not follow the discovery of the network, the file and printer sharing, and streaming media options running.  I also made sure upnp started as well.

I noticed, however, when I disabled the Windows Firewall, all options could be changed and stayed changed.  I added WMP to the firewall allow list and activated the firewall.  All options have yet.  In the firwall outgoing options are all set to allow, if incoming is currently refused saying "block all connections to programs that are not on the list of allowed programs."  It is the default state of Windows Firewall.

Run without AV and a FW is NOT an option.  Specifically, these are tools MS and should not conflict with these simple network features.

I was able to solve the problem after a kick in the right direction of another user of the forum.  The 'general' advice give cannot solve the problem, but they are a good starting point if nothing else.  Please see this thread for the difficulty that I used:

  • sandbox on network share - tips

    Hello

I'm looking for advice on setting the sandbox on a network share (netapp cifs) for a floating VMware View no persistent environment. I'm looking to keep the sandbox in the user (roaming) profile and I also don't want to direct object %AppData%, which I think may cause problems with packets if the sandbox is left at the default location.

All advice, questions, considerations for placing the sandbox on a network share would be welcome.

    Concerning

Somethings that comes to my mind...

    1. Please understand that your network will be a part of your overall application performance. If your network is good should not be a problem.

    2. make sure that you check your sizes of sandbox. You must make sure your packages creates the smallest possible Sandbox.

    3. you should have no antivirus on access scanning on the location.

    4. the network must be unique per user (such as the users home folder)

5 AppLinking sometimes creates .merge large files in the package sandbox parent. Be sure to investigate this. The size of the file merger is the amount that will need to be downloaded/uploaded each launch of the parent package.

  • How to backup a Windows 7 Machine to a network attached drive (WD Worldbook) - using the Windows backup utility?

When I use the tool, it lists only a DVD player in backup option, it does not find the network drive (and the tool does not seem to give you an option to search for manually - just has a refresh button). Any help would be great.

ISTR that you have to buy Windows 7 Ultimate or above for the backup to a network share using the installed backup program.  The series Windows 7 Home won't make backups on a network.

I would like to put the sandbox on a network share. I set the THINSTALL_SANDBOX_DIR environment variable

  • What is the size of the max file on an NFS datastore

the blocksize parameter sets the size of the max file on a LUN data store, but I can't seem to remember or find information about the maximum file size permitted with a NFS data store.

any information or references would be appreciated.

personally, I wonder if that format of underlying disk as ntfs or ext3 for zfs as determined by the o/s

    Thank you

    Wayne

As much as I know there is no size limit of the NFS file - it depends on your OS - all that it supports (if you plan to use this file inside the virtual machine) and the size of your NFS share.

As a general rule people tend to apply limits of san to NFS, just to put a figure on it.

PS I did some tests with 2 TB filesize on NFS.

  • Broken links to the network shared folders by users

    Hello

Several people here at my office working on files work InDesign InDesign files with links to the image on a network share file store.

If a person links, the next person to work on the page, on another workstation, but access to the same network, there are all broken links and will have to repeat all - sometimes quite painful if the images are not all in one folder; You must navigate each involved folder and find the file in question.

Rarely, this happened in CS2, but is happening now quite frequently in CS4. What has changed? And why is it so difficult to re - tying things now? It seemed that when we could not link something new in CS2, it gave you a little help. For example if you were re-login to a given file, if you navigated to the appropriate folder, you will find the file already highlighted. No more, it seems.

If something has changed in the way that InDesign maintains links?

How can I avoid that links broken all the time? Is there a quicker way of restoring links?

    Thank you

Assuming you're on Mac: what you see in the Finder may differ from the actual path of the Unix.

A possible cause is that if you get the same volume of different user accounts, reboot just to fix it.

Another cause is an empty folder in the Volumes folder, delete to fix.

To check, drag the image into the web browser. The URL can show variations in the volume name, as one '-' appearing in annex 1.

You can also take a look at the links, low link info panel. The 'path' value must be enabled.

  • Portege A600-138 with Vista 32 bit does not see the computers in the Group Win XP network

    Hello

My Toshiba Portege A600-138 with Vista Business 32 does not see the computers in the workgroup.
In our office, the computers are all equipped with Windows XP.

When I connect my laptop to the Local network, I don't see any neighboring computers in Network Explorer.
I spent 1 hour and 40 minutes to talk to a specialist Service of Support from Microsoft, and the only way to have access to local machines, we found it had to enter the IP of the computer directly into the computer browser path field.

I hope you understand what I mean.

The man said that he had no this problem with non - OEM Windows Vista versions.
He meant that the problem was with the oem versions of Vista preinstalled on laptops only.
He said that probably the sellers - in my particular case Toshiba - supplied their notebooks with VIsta oem images that were somehow corrupt.

Does anyone have an idea of the cause of this problem?

    > The man said that he had no this problem with non - OEM Windows Vista versions.
    > It meant that the problem was with the oem versions of Vista preinstalled on laptops only.

    That's nonsense for me
The Vista OS preinstalled Toshiba which is same BONE as full Vista disc from Microsoft.
There is only one difference; Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with Toshiba and pilots tools and drivers and tools are part of the Toshiba recovery image that contains Vista, driver and tools

    Check this box:
    http://www.Computerworld.com/s/article/9019179/Teach_XP_and_Vista_to_play_nice_on_networks?taxono myId = 16 & pageNumber = 1

You will find information that a problem has to do with the new Windows Vista network map.
Windows Vista uses a new Protocol (Link Layer Topology Discovery).
LLTD is integrated with Windows Vista, this is why they appear correctly in the network map.
But the problem is that LLTD is not integrated with Windows XP, which is why they do not appear correctly.

But you can fix the problem by downloading and installing the layer topology discovery responder.
Install it and your PC Windows XP will appear on the network map.

  • Change the size of text to varchar column (2000) on the CLOB type

    Hello

Is - this suggestable to change the size of text value VARCHAR column form (2000) use of CLOB property cc.bigtext?

What are the precautions and other things to consider?

    Thank you
    Sikora

The document suggests the only real question that comes to East with multibyte characters, which can you leave with one string more than 4 k bytes.

You should have no problem with the data you have already there.

The issue would occur if further on the road someone created a field of very large text which was under 4 k characters but larger than 4 k bytes.

To pass 4000 would be that you have described.

EDIT - in fact it would be SHUTDOWN, backup, edit the field in the sites and change column on db, starting upwards.

    Hi, Amrit,

Do you want to just 9 copies of the selected lines of mth_dim_hierarchy, each with all the columns the same except for level_num?
If so, mth_dim_hierarchy with a Meter of Table , that is, any table of cross join (or, as in this case, result set) with 9 rows. For example:

    WITH cntr AS
    (
         SELECT LEVEL AS n
         FROM dual
         CONNECT BY     LEVEL     <= 9
    )
    SELECT c.n AS LEVEL_NUM
    , To_Date ('01-JAN-1900','DD-MON-YYYY') AS EFFECTIVE_DATE
    , -99999 AS LEVEL_KEY
    , 'Unassigned' AS LEVEL_NAME
    , -99999 AS PARENT_KEY
    , 'Unassigned' AS PARENT_NAME
    , MDH.HIERARCHY_ID
    FROM MTH_DIM_HIERARCHY MDH
    CROSS JOIN cntr c
    WHERE      MDH.CREATION_DATE      >= v_log_from_date
    AND MDH.DIMENSION_NAME = 'EQUIPMENT'

I hope that answers your question.
If not, post a small example of data (CREATE TABLE and only relevant columns, INSERT statements) for all of the tables involved and the results desired from these data.
In the case of a DML (such as FUSION), the sample data should show what look like the paintings before the DML, and results will be the content of the or the tables changed after the DML.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get these results from these data.
Simplify the prole, if possible. If you show what you need to do with 3 distinct values of level_num, do not post a problem with 9 distinct values.
Always tell what version of Oracle you are using.

  • Disk utility can not create large image of drive (60 GB) on the network share

    Disc Utiity (Versie 15.0 (1511.3)):

I am creating a disc from a hard disk image. I want to save the image on a Synology DS414 network share.

The share is accessible a there is no active disk quota.

I copied a large file via Finder (384 MB) to the \\partagereseau that works.

When I try to record a copy of disk sharing (60 GB), I get the following message:

Unsatisfactory area is available on "(null)" to create the NAME of diskimage. Choose another volume with at least 60 GB of available space and continue.

Summary: I can create large files on the share, but the disc utilities cannot?

    Greetings Wim

384 MB is nowadays is no longer considered to be a file of "big."

You don't mention how much space is actually available on the Synology but for arguments sake, we will assume that more than 60 GB of space is available.

So in theory it should be possible to create a disk image of 60 GB (no doubt), there is enough space available. As you say there is no set of storage quotas and I'm happy to believe that. I think that the issue could be more to do with the maximum allowed size of the file, remember that I mentioned that 384 is actually not much, although some systems have a limit of 4 GB for a single file, for example FAT32 file systems have such a limit. In theory the FAT32 limit should not apply here because almost all including Synology NAS servers actually use Linux as the underlying software and so use Ext3 or Ext4 as file system, not FAT32. Same Ext2 a fortiori Ext3 or Ext4 allowing individuals will produce up to 2 TB of size which is clearly much larger than 60 GB.

Still it could be related to that question even if it is necessary as an unnecessary and artificial limit may be for example to ensure compatible with other systems using FAT32.

If you have enough space on the Mac, you could create and try to copy on the Synology, however another approach which is probably better all around is to create a "sparsebundle disk image. It's a disc image, but another type and will work around this problem because it is in fact made up of lots of all small files attached together. As that user do you see this as image a big drive, but the computer sees it as a folder full of files much smaller.
