The upgrade of Inspiron 9400

I have an Inspiron 9400 with 60 GB HDD & Windows XP. I plan to upgrade the hard drive of 320, & install Windows 7 and possibly Windows 10.  I was assured by the Dell technical support that my Inspiron works with Windows XP or Vista. I already ran Rebecca Linux Mint 32-bit from the DVD without any apparent problem. My question is, I can actually install Win 7, or should I switch to Linux? Windows XP gets worse & worse! I held account install Win 7 on a bootable usb hdd to test this point.

You can read about the upgrade of the Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop to either a 32-bit version of Win 7 & Win 8.1, HERE:

  • The upgrade of Inspiron 9300 Hard Drive not recognized

I bought an upgrade of my Inspiron 9300 laptop hard drive:

Old hard drive: TG754 Hard Drive, 60G, 9.5 MM, 7.2 K Hitachi, Moraga, unleaded

New hard drive: 250 GB SATA 3 Gb s hard drive 16 MB 7200 RPM 2.5 IN. w o free fall Scorpio black

    TG754 Hard drive, 60G, 9.5 MM, Hitachi 7.2 K, Moraga, unleaded

I don't know I installed it correct (just slide in and screw it) but my problem is that my laptop does not recognize the new drive.  When starting it complains that no hard drive is, and when I boot my Windows XP it also said that no hard drive is located.

I followed the upgrade recommended Dell so I do not know why it does not work.  I read that the SATA drives require additional drivers, but I'm sure that my old drive was already a SATA drive, so I don't understand why he is not recognized.

    Help, please.  Thank you.

The 9300 has been performed in two versions - the vast majority were EIDE.  The last execution of production used SATA.  Yours is EIDE.

Readers are physically the same size and made the same carrier - but does not connect the SATA version to the motherboard (check the back both discs and you'll see why).

The EIDE version has a limit of 120G BIOS - it means not that you can not use this drive of 160 G, but the results can be unpredictable, sudden loss of all data.  Keep backups if you try a 160 - it is much safer to use a 120G.

No, a 5400 all else equal will be slower than a 7200 - but you don't have a choice, because all manufacturers have stopped making 7200 RPM EIDE (PATA) computer laptop some time ago.

  • The upgrade of Inspiron 580 s

    Hello!

I am trying to upgrade my s 580 Dell Inspiron (i5 with * easy *) for purposes of games.  I recently installed a MSI GeForce GTX 750 graphics card ti low-profile and is now looking to upgrade to the power.  The PSU in my computer is currently at 250 watts, while the minimum for the card is 400 watts.  I've heard that I should probably get a 500 watt PSU, but have yet to find one.  The closest I can find is the TFX power to 400 watts.

As I'm new to computer hardware and to work with him, I just want to check to make sure that nothing not escapes me.  A 400 watt power supply would be sufficient?  Or is there one available 500 Watts that will fit in the slim case?  In addition, apart from the PSU, is there anything else that I need to replace the graphics card to work properly?  I wish that my computer does not melt, ha ha.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Upgrade an Inspiron 9400 XP to Windows 7

I have a 9400 I would like to upgrade to Windows 7, but do not know if she is capable of running. There a T2250, 1.73, 2MB, Dual Core processor and 512 MB of memory. This software update is possible on this machine?

First of all, you can not upgrade - a Windows 7 installation must be done from the beginning (format-recharge-restore your files and applications).

Yes, the system will work 7 - you need the 32 - bit version, as the Core Duo is not capable of EM64T.

  • Question: Does have an Inspiron E1505 and want to know about the upgrade for Inspiron 1525

Hi, I and Inspiron E1505 and I was wondering how much it would cost to upgrade to an Inspiron 1525 comparable.  The 1525 is replacement of the E1505 is not it?  My E1505 has Vista with a CPU T7200, 2GB of RAM, 120GB HD, built in WiFi G Intel, Mobility Radeon X 1400, upgraded Sound Blaster Audigy.

I can't remember the price of precisley, but it was about $1,200.  As I said, I want to upgrade to an Inspiron 1525 comparable.  What kind of trade option does Dell give for something like that?  Thanks in advance!

  • How to get BIOS (A099 to detect the new HD, Inspiron 9400

As the subject says, I will try to explain what happened. Sorry for my bad English, but it is not my native language.

I bought a boost HD Seagate 7200.2 SATA 120 GB. Unfortunately, I tried to clone the old HD to the new using Acronis true image. The problem was the media direct partition, aparently it cannot be cloned. So after that I cloned the HD I replaced the old with the new. And as you can expect that he didn't start. I checked in the BIOS to see if the new HD has been found. In the BIOS my new 120 gb HD appear as the old HD on 60 GB.

The problem I have now is the BIOS don't recognize the new HD as the 120 GB one is, BIOS shows only 60 GB. How to solve this? I tried to use a bootdisc and run the Seagate diagnostics, in that it has shown that 120 GB, when I use PQmagic or Capitol partition the program from a virtual drive, a new disc shows that 120 GB and I can create a partition on it to 120 GB. But when I try to install windows XP on it it just appears like 60 GB in XP... I m crazy here!

BTW, I have no recovery disc or all the discs at all from dell.

Someone has an idea what to do?

  • Moving display after the upgrade of Inspiron 530 with Geforce 8600 GT

Have no idea on how to solve this problem, I now connect my lcd directly on the graphics card (was invited to by the bios) after getting the latest updates and configure the colors, resolution and everything else, I noticed the sound off the screen display! what I mean is that the top, bottom and sides of my screen appears entirely not whole screen, its similar food half inch of the screen. In addition, the colors are little opaque and not so colorful.

  • The upgrade of an Inspiron 5348 Windows 10

Hello, just over a year, we bought a 5348 Inspiron with Windows 8.1 down here in New Zealand. It was OK for a few months and one day I totally messed up because I decided to follow the instructions and update Windows - BIG MISTAKE. The computer was completely messed up. I got help from Dell (Asia-Pacific I guess) at the time, but ultimately confused with reinstalling Windows 8.1 using the Dell recovery program. Dell advice was to reinstall windows and update only once and never again (which seemed strange to me). Anyway, it has been fine since then (without updating).

My question is about the update of Windows 10 - is this going to be a problem with the Inspiron 5348 which has not been updated in the month? I don't have the notice asking me to update Windows 10 that I've heard, maybe because I did not update since the big problem I've had months ago.

So I don't forget to try to upgrade to Windows 10? Or would it really an improvement or 8.1 Windows which seems to be rather unstable?

    Cheers, Paul

I watched videos of introduction 10 Windows and he looks pretty good / easy to use. I wonder what are the problems likely to use Windows 10 compared to 8.1 Windows

    Cheers, Paul

I have no problem at all. I'm delighted with my upgrade to win 10. You should be as lucky as me, however, to get a perfect, almost experience judging by messages others have fact. If it's not perfect right from the start, could be that you are in trouble. Therefore, to make these images. Win 10 will have its own built-in back capacity, which works usually - but sometimes that fails too, I read. Create your own! Follow Dell article I posted update drivers both before & after the upgrade...

How not to not upgrade Windows 10

I went to read messages about it while the upgrade sat in Windows Update (or anywhere where that put it). I told you to wait - call back me later - fully intending to try, after having two images & a clone of 8.1 to win. When I got home, I was a little sick at heart, on the complaints I had read. I do not know now if I clicked accidentally something to start or he started alone - but after about 4 automatic restarts for maybe two hours - everything was fine. I'm thrilled!

I've lost any ability or the file I had to 8.1 win, I see. Some screens of settings are hard to find, but who has always been so. Things are as quick as ever. Maybe McAfee ceased to update its definitions because of the upgrade. I uninstalled & put my trust in Defender & firewall Windows, which are impressive, especially the firewall. Some very painful events left the observer of events, but news are that someday I'm going to study. But less/nothing is having me worry more material than in Win 8.1, although concern was probably wrong. Event Viewer errors are often false. I have no problem in Win 10 that I did not win 8.1, which was not much. The two 'SFC/scannow' & DISM still declare no error.

Win 10, we can stop is no longer always the critical updates to enter through Windows Update. So, I hope that your problem is over. You can prevent updates to driver, but it is better, when he didn't need to. I did not personally a.

I am delighted with Win 10, generation 10240. I hope that's what you will receive, because, finally, I read a news - threshold 2 or Version 1511 - has been withdrawn. It is problematic. I'm going to only when offered through Windows Update, when I trust that bugs are fixed. I have a new series of images & a clone by hand, however.

  • "Dell Backup and Recovery" asking the upgrade with the inspiron 15 model

    Hello

I'm new to this forum and also started to use the Dell laptop. I bought Dell Inspiron 15 (model 3521) 01-Jan-2014. I am trying to take backup of my laptop on a DVD. When I clicked on 'Backup and restore of Dell' app in app Manager. I try to click on backup system option 'Dell backup and recovery' section, its upgrade premium or enter key. Its not that allows to create backup DVDs.

What may be the issue? Because when I bought it, seller said that his original one.

It's part a scam from Dell.  I've got 5 Dell portable computers/computers / tables all have this software on it with a VERY limited useage then weekly or if I get a pop window op offering the upgrade at a special price which, in the end, is the same price as if you would have just bought or 'improved' (like Dell likes to call it) the program to a regular price which IS : 39.99.

What I hate about businesses, in particular, the one that I spend a lot of money with it, is when they think they can put a quick access on me or in my case 5 times that I have 5 of these upgrade special offer windows popping up each week.

You're better off getting programs like Goodsync which will back up your computer or synchronize your files on an external hard drive, and that you can use on all of your computers for only $29.99.  I use it on my servers and my offices.

Otherwise good luck with Dell and their implementation to special day called 'offer' that is the price of retail, after all.  NOT COOL DELL ALL!

  • Said Dell Inspiron 7537 is tested on Windows 10 but the upgrade fails - black screen

    Hello all, Hello support,

Dell Backup software and restore proposed to me that I have upgraded to Windows 10. I like this idea.

I checked my ultrabook on the DELL Web site. Inspiron 7537 is tested (proudly said Dell) so I should be able to update my OS without flaw.

I did 2 upgrade to Windows 10 attempts, both failed in the same way.

It passes through several stages, but at some point, a black screen stuck and only power OFF button turns the laptop computer do something (disable). In the two attempts after 2 restarts, the installation process is back from my Windows 8.1 operating system

Why DELL say it is tested and I can't upgrade - turns-does not work.

I have not contacted the DELL forums on this subject (because the DELL technical support in my country told me it is Microsoft Business) If IT WAS NOT for THE FACT that DELL 'advertising' me Windows 10 and claims my laptop is ready to do the upgrade.

    Please help and explain.

    Thank you in advance.

    Martin

  • Ethernet/Wifi keeps falling since the upgrade to windows 10 on Inspiron 7537

After about 3 attempts to upgrade to windows 10 8.1 I clicked inadvertently this prompt annoying to try again, and finished the upgrade this time.

Nothing wrong with it except the Wifi and ethernet keep falling. If I do repair troubleshooting or deactivate/activate my ethernet card, then it works again for a few minutes before falling again.

I've installed every update that is recommended by the Dell Web site, but it has not changed. I have the Inspiron 7537

Someone recommended measures to fix this can?

The above didn't solve it for me. Someone else had the same problem

    Google windowssecrets dot com Windows-10-Realtek-PCIe-GBE-Family-Controller-Intermittent-ethernet-disconnect

or this icon might work for you:

Suggestion of his "Realtek RTL8411B-US Ethernet controller driver"- and valleys drivers listed are outofdate

This installed a driver 10.8.31 2016 date of 11/03/2016 and working pilot.

Phew! thus appears the Dell download downloaded drivers are out of date.

  • Problems encountered during the upgradation of windows7 for windows8 in my laptop Dell Inspiron 5520.

I'm halfway to the upgradation of windows7 for windows8 in my laptop Dell Inspiron 5520. I wonder to uninstall software for USB 3.0, Dell stage, Bluetooth, ports etc. of windows7, citing compatibility problems. How do I proceed? Similar software will be installed during the process once I have finished installing windows8? Because now, my internet connection is through the USB data card. Please advice of emergency

What I suggest you do is download Windows 8 and create a bootable on a Flash DRIVE or DVD you can do an offline installation. Although the wizard upgrade of Windows 8 is the first download before to actually copy the files.

You can uninstall the proposed components that affect the download installation files.

  • Inspiron 9400/E1705 - lines vertical and the seeds, and then black screen on startup of the computer

I have an Inspiron 9400/E1705 with a nVidia Geforce Go 7900 GS. A few months as the computer started showing the seeds while I was game (textures does not, massive downturn, etc.) and then finally horizontal began to appear on the screen, from start-up. I was unable to get into Windows with the exception of Safe Mode. I thought that the problem was the graphics card, and some users on this forum have confirmed this suspicion. Although in May 2007, when I was still under warranty, I got the card replaced, I don't was more under warranty at the time so I started shopping around for a replacement.

Before that I bought a replacement, however, the computer just stopped starting upwards. Previously, at least I could get Safe Mode and check my e-mail or Word process; now the screen stays empty (the LCD and an external monitor) and seems not even to try to start. The power and it occupied lights turn green, however, and remain like that until I turn off the power. I tried to boot with a RAM chip, thanks to the optical drive removed, with the hard drive, removed, and combinations of these, just to see if anything would change (anything).

My question is if this can also be a symptom of the graphics card does not, or I have a bigger problem on my hands?

    Thank you.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I ran the diagnosis before the white screen began to arrive, and only errors have been associated with the video.  I can't run any diagnostic now, though, to see if there are new mistakes, which is why I want to confirm a dead card can do that until I get a new.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 and the charger has stopped working. I looked on the Dell support site and they sell no spare Chargers.  I looked on ebay and they are inundated with Chargers dell from £ 6 to £99.    But how can I be sure that they will not be some sloppily made Chinese clone that will burn my house!

I would have a go to repair the charger If Dell has not seen fit to the heat of welding the two halves closed!

You can search a person selling a genuine Dell PA10 adapter.  This is what you need.

I want to restore it before the upgrade but cannot, then I run the Dell backup / recovery of value factory setting, but has no success (the interface at startup is also difference previous execution of recovery).

I tried to run the startup recovery, but pressing F8 can not directly at the interface of recovery.

Could you please say how to restore my laptop? I need to run my old application for my works.

    Thank you best regards &,.

    LM Hoang.

You cannot use the factory recovery partition once you have upgraded to a new version of Windows (including Windows 8.0 Windows 8.1).

Dell ship no reinstallation DVD with systems and Microsoft do not provide a .iso download for Windows 8.0 or 8.1 Windows for OEM installations.

If you have not completed the USB bootable Dell backup and restoration in advance before installing Windows 8.1 then your only option may be to install the real installation media, i.e. a reinstallation DVD or USB.
