The upgrade of the plant of the UCS 1.0(1a) to 1.1(1b)

I followed the steps described by Cisco in the UCS Central upgrade and installation guide:

Step 1   If necessary, restart the virtual machine and change the boot options to boot from the CD-ROM.
Step 2   Mount the ISO Cisco UCS Central image with the virtual CD/DVD drive.
Step 3   In the Central Installation of Cisco UCS menu on the ISO image, choose upgrade existing Cisco UCS Central.
Step 4   Once the upgrade is complete, of the Cisco UCS Central ISO image from the virtual CD/DVD drive.
Step 5   Restart the Cisco UCS Central VM.

However after having mounted the ISO of the UCS Central and reloading image of the virtual machine, I never see the UCS just the standard newspaper central installation menu on the screen.

Anyone got through UCS Central 1.0(1a) to the 1.1(1b)?

Hi Paul,.

Yes, the above process works very well. Have you changed the boot order to make sure that it starts on the CD/DVD?

Also can ensure that the uploaded image is correct.

  • Plant of the UCS 1.2 (1f) TFTP question backup

I noticed that a TFTP backup (full-State) of the UCS Center on version 1.2 (1f) does not work as a restoration, however if you run a local backup in the center of the UCS and download the file, you can use this one to restore via TFTP

Obviously it's a problem if you have a claim and your UCS plant broke, it is possible that your backup TFTP files are of no use and so you do not have a backup

I don't know if this has been resolved in later versions

    Hi Matthew,

It is a known with Central FTP/TFTP problem:

    https://BST.cloudapps.Cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuy09692/?reffering_site...

You can choose to create local backups or use a linux as a backup host server. This issue should be resolved in version 1.5 Central.

  • What is the procedure of upgrading since version 7.1 of CUCM (MCS Server) call manager to version 10.2 of CUCM (on the server of the UCS)

    Hello

What is the procedure to upgrade the call manager since version 7.1 of CUCM (MCS Server) to version 10.2 of CUCM (on the server of the UCS), please let me know the steps to what would be the backup procedures and upgrades.

    Concerning

    Gerard

I suggest reading this guide to make sure that you have prepared your environment to support the first 10.x. The link below also contains the path to upgrade to 10.0 (1).

One of the ways to do this is:

1 / apply cooling cop upgrade file on all servers in the cluster.

2 / upgrade the cluster to 8.6 (2). Make a backup of the cluster.

3 / build a cluster of servers 8.6 (2) on the virtual machines and assign them the same host name and the IP address of the cluster hardware. (You may need to keep these on a separate network until turn off hardware machines)

4 / restoration of the backup of the pile of material on the VM cluster.

    5 / upgrade cluster VM to 10.0 (1).

    Hello

What UCSM version are you running?  It looks like you can have a version prior to 2.1, who does not have the ability to integrate into the power plant of the UCS.

  • Manager of the UCS of 1.2 update (1 d) to 1.3 (1o)

I use the instructions in the UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_1_3_1.pdf to upgrade my equipment ucs.  There are several questions and I had.

    (1) it says to update the firmware for the IOM and wait until you activate the firmware on the fabric of interconnections that will restart the interconnection fabric and IOM, date on which IOM will be updated.  I did the firmware was not updated on IOM.  The backup version still shows 1.3 (1o) and the current version is 1.3 (1 c) IOM for, even if the fabric of interconnections successfully updated.  When I try to manually activate the firmware on the IOM, I get error combined modification.  The compatibility check failed. What is this?

    (2) I have treid activating the UCS Manager according to page 141 of the guide of version 1.2 (1 d) 1.3 (1o) and I find failed to start activation.  The check of the compatibiity failed.

    (3) I tried to update the individual servers of 1.2 interface cards (1 d) to 1.3 (1o) and I will meet with the same errors of compatibility check.

This is the first time I went through and tried to update the firmware on my new box of UCS.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

During the activation of the new firmware, you must check the box to ignore the compatibility check.

  • The UCS firmware update

    Hi all

What would be the recommended way to upgrade the firmware on a current environment UCS run 1.4.3x?

wouldn't be better to go from 1.4.3x to 2.0 and 2.1.

or go straight from 1.4.3x to 2.1 x?

    Thank you

    Kass

    Kass,

Since you're currently at 1.4, you can directly pass to 2.1 (2) - last version if you wish.  This process can be facilitated in particular by using the function Auto Install of 2.1 Firmware.

Review the complete upgrade procedure, but essentially you first download the new 2.1 (2) 'A' and 'B' your system UCS beams, then activate the image of the UCS Manager first to the new version 2.1 (2).  After restarting UCSM you can use the feature of Firmware Auto Installer to upgrade the rest of the Infrastructure (IOM and FIs) and then the firmware of server endpoints.

  • What kind of PDU like people for the UCS?

I intend to deploy a UCS in the next month.  It seems that every UCS chassis requires four containers of L6 - 20.

And we get two chassis.  While I was trying to get a couple of Pulizzi as ounces below.  Anyone prefers another

type for better management or other reasons?  Also - L6 - 20 power is only option for the UCS?  Thank you.

    http://powerquality.Eaton.com/ePDU-LPC208-2p.aspx?CX=3

There is a 110 plug in a PDU specializes in the basket.  Check with your Cisco representative for the part number - it works fine.  We have deployed about 100 chassis and it worked very well.

  • The review of the UCS and VCP

    Hi all

I do not have a secure Channel and yet so I will at least make the test of the UCS?

Is-Cisco has a system as they will allow us to test of the UCS, but they will not give us unless we are SECURE.

    Thank you

    Ismail

    Hi Ismail

You can always take the test and still qualify as a Cisco Unified Computing Technology Specialist of the design and a Cisco Unified Computing Technology Support Specialist without a PCV.

But if you're after Cisco Data Center Unified Computing Support Specialist, etc. then yes VCP is always a pre - req (I heard that there will be rejected in favour of a managed Cisco equivalent, but who is without merit)

Unfortunatley (that I found) just passing examination VCP wasn't enough, but the VMware course is also a mandatory requirement for VCP VMware.

    Good luck with it.

  • Replace the UCS - b2xx HARD drive

We have a UCS with blades B200.

One of the HARD drive led STATIC amber, (it is a HARD drive failure according to the documentation), but UCS Manager did no show any alert.

My first question is... I see not awake in the UCS Manager? I have to turn on any kind of follow-up to the HARD drive?

The HARD drive was reflected with RAID 1, then why has decided to install a replacement.

We extracted the defective HARD drive and inserted a new (because they are Hot Swap we did with the server on).

But now the UCS Manager is showing the HARD drive as a disc UNKNOWN, so he did not recognize it

We rebooted the server with no luck.

What should I do any kind of procedure of the UCS to recognize the new drive and rebuild the RAID 1 mirror?

    Thank you

    Hello

Which firmware version are you running?

In versions prior to 2.0, we had has very little followed HDD and reports. The status UNKNOWN to the driver after installing a new is also due to a bug known in versions 1.4 or previous.

If you see the normal LEDs on the disc, then you know that the re - build is finished, you can also restart the blade and enter the optional ROM of LSI, and check the status of the drivers.

  • Monitoring of virtual machines running on the UCS blades

We are in the process of migration of servers HP rack to Cisco UCS blades. I have 4 blades UCS running ESXi and dΘmarrez from SAN. We have configured in HP SIM HP servers to monitor hardware issues and the status of the VM. Now Let's watch the material of the UCS in UCS Manager, but I still need to monitor the status of virtual machines. I looked at existing Solarwinds NPM we have all our ESXi HP servers to Solarwinds. What I've discovered, is that we cannot add the individual to NPM ESXi blades, because we can not configure SNMP (or we).

Which means that migrate us from HP servers for UCS blades, we lose the ability to monitor the State of the CPU and VM.

How people monitor their virtual machines in an environment of UCS?

    Thank you.

We monitor our UCS ESXi 5 with SNMP hosts and use Solarwinds NPM.  It works well.  These are the commands that we send through our VMA (free VMware) server to a new host.

    vicfg-snmp - root server - username - password it

    vicfg-snmp - root server - username - password you @162.

    vicfg-snmp - root server - username - password e

There's probably a way to do it on the console of the host, but I don't know what it could be.

Is there a way to see the flaws that have been deleted in the UCS Manager and deleted once the retention period has expired?

No, unless you use an external syslog server.  It is the only way to maintain indefinitely offset flaws.

  • Helps the clarification on the ports of the UCS C220

Hi guys New computer unified (and the servers / virtualization in general to be honest!) Sorry for stupid questions, I guess. I tried to read as much as I can but still a little fuzzy on a few things.

At the back of the UCS C220 I have, there is a M, 1 LAN, LAN 2 port, and then a 4 ports ethernet card. What I guessed was:

    M's management for MMIC port

LAN 1 and 2 were for ESXi (grouping of NETWORK cards?)

So do not know what is the purpose of the ethernet card 4 ports as well?

In addition, the MMIC, you have the option for dedicated/shared LOM etc and I don't really understand the differences. I guessed who dedicates meant that MMIC used the port of M and LOM shared meant she could use other LAN ports? Furthermore, making MMIC and ESXi had to be on separate subnets?

Sorry for stupid questions, but once I have clearly in my head I think it will be easy for me,

    Thank you

    Hello

If I have CIMC running in "Shared LOM" then it means I can have 1 cable connected from one of the LOM ports and can access both the CIMC and ESXi on a single cable without the need for the management cable to be connected?

Yes, the only cable connected to the LOM port will give access to interface MMIC and ESXi.

In this case the CIMC and ESXi can also be on the same subnet without problems? (Assuming switch with single vlan)

They can be in the same subnet and won't cause problems

  • UCS to UCS UCS 2104XP 6248UP AND to 2208XP of the UCS 6120XP

    Hello

    1. UCS 6248UP is compatible with the UCS 2104XP? AND
    2. The UCS 6120XP is compatible with the UCS 2208XP?

    Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

Coupling of the FI with the IOM shouldn't matter.

With 2208 the number for the day of plane ports increased to 32, while they are 8 with 2104.

The only requirment is to have a minimal version of 2.0(1m)

Please visit the link below to confirm the same.

    Cristobal,

It certainly is a cause of what UCSM bug doesn't do what it is supposed to and the only bug which is really (according to the version you are using) is https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCum95854/?reffering_site=dumpcr and seems to be fixed in the latest versions...  2.2.2c; 2.2.3A; 2.5.1a; 3.0.2c (UCS Mini)

Advice is to contact TAC for assistance (if necessary).
