The Windows 7 Start Menu search / indexing nothing works! Tried everything!
OK Ive spent countless hours of research on this question, ive tried many "bugs" that did not work at all. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit Edition and here is my problem:
The search for the Start Menu in windows 7 does not show ANYTHING when I type something to search for. No category, no file, no folder, nothing. The only thing that appears is "See more results" at the bottom and everything else is empty. When I click on "See more results" I get an error saying that windows cannot find the search query
WHAT IVE TRIED:
Ive tried to rebuild the index - always says 0 indexed items and NEVER changes, Ive tried to manually change the location of the index, same result
Ive tried deleted manually the former location of the index, stop the search function, from the search function (both in the options and in regedit), restart the computer and still nothing.
Ive tried Backing removed all find Regkeys, stop manually search in the command prompt, location of the Delete index into the command prompt, restart the search function in the command prompt.
Ive tried to do an in Place Upgrade / repair installation of Windows 7 but he's always said his failure and returned to my current installation of WIN7
Ive double checked to ensure that all my regkeys have the correct values and I have all the correct regkeys
After all that, nothing WORKS STILL! -Yes research is Active, yes the file indexing and drive is chosen correctly, and yes the Search Options for files and folders ARE set up.
Ive seen 3 other emails of Micrsoft argue that users have posted, some people say it arranges, it does NOTHING for me. I always have this problem.
Please, please help me with this, if anyone can help me, you have no idea how much I appreciate it!
I don't know what caused it, but this problem fixed the original problem and you describe for me:

How to remove the search box in the Windows 7 Start Menu?
I'm a guy from keyboard. Encoder, mudder. Therefore, I prefer my Start menu for user-friendly keyboard, which includes the removal of the search box as the focus of pigs. I can't find this option in the control panel to the taskbar and Start Menu. I lack, or it is impossible to get the classic Windows, looking for the start menu?
I forgot on the thing... If you want to remove the search box, try this: start > Control Panel > programs > Turn Windows features or disable > uncheck Windows Search
...
I said that you can press Tab... wrong... you must press SHIFT + Tab.
...
About to express my opinion - there is a simple reason why I do this. Some time ago, someone asked how to remove the search box, and it received no response for a few days. After that, I found this option, how to remove... When I said on this subject after a few days, I heard that this person used to this new feature of Windows and now it will keep it. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong... this system differ only from XP... so we have to try to learn something new and check after a few days we don't like this solution more than the previous.
...
I wonder why write you in commentary edition which has pasted the link almost not worth it. You will get exactly the same behavior of Menu start as in Windows XP. I thought that you, like this old solution... "Pinning just something that mimics the classic style"... No... you have clicked on the first link... you should read more prudent. There was also another. But even if you have selected the first solution with menu PIN... I guess you don't know that you can run all the pinned programs by pressing the Windows key + number... for example, WinKey + 1, so that each action is made without a mouse.

Windows 7 start menu search can't find any files.
Hello
Start menu search does produce all files. The only results it shows are programs and Control Panel options. Essential, the search does not find the word, text, excel or pdf. I tried all of the obvious solutions that includes, by adjusting the indexing options. Enabling/disabling Windows Search on and off through programs and features. I have rebuilt the index a multiple of times. Define Windows Search in auto-start Services. I checked and rechecked the extensions of files included in the research and their individual parameters. I confirmed that the system has administration rights to all indexed files. These files are my documents transferred from Windows XP Professional 32-bit with Windows Easy Transfer to my newly purchased Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The laptop has been approved for upgrade of Windows Upgrade Advisor.New suggestion would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance,WesI thought about it. There is a search parameter slot under the Start Menu Properties. I can't believe that that has not been suggested as a possible cause on any of the fine Web of MS. well sites.
Right click the Start Menu button.Select PropertiesRelative to the opening tab of the Start Menu, click "Customize...". »Scroll to the bottom and with the parameter 'Search the other files and libraries' select search with public folders or search without public folders.I hope this helps someone. -
the Windows 7 start menu as a menu display does not respond when selected
original title: windows 7 start menu - display as a menu broken
When you customize my Start menu in Windows 7, I chose to 'Display as a Menu', as many items as I could. It worked well for a while, but now is broken. Now, if 'Display as a Menu' or "Display as a link" is chosen, I have to click the item to open it. I tried to change it back in 'menu' to 'bind', I tried choose "display only" and then back to "view in the form of a menu, I rebooted. I changed the delay of menushow definition in the registry by default 400 for as little as 20. All to nothing does not. Any ideas?
FYI for those who might encounter the same problem... found an easier solution. I just put the menu start failing. The button is at the bottom of the start menu.

How to rebuild the Windows 7 start menu?
Having had a virus and deleted successfully, I find myself with a strange problem.
The virus, among other things, seems to have changed the menu start removing the 'pinned' programs is not a problem, but also remove the contents of the folders in "all programs", for example under "Microsoft Office" is a subfolder called "office tools" (empty), but nothing else.
All programs are always there and the work that they are not available on the start menu. There must be a way to rebuild this menu without having to reinstall each of the very many pieces of software on the computer.Suggestions welcome.
Common to all users start menu is C:\users\all users\microsoft\windows\start menu.
For each menu C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\window s\start user.
By default, these are hidden files.
Open Windows Explorer and create shortcuts, copy, paste etc.A search not pulled up this [http://softzilla.blogspot.com/2011/04/free-windows-7-context-menu-editor.html] no idea if it is of no use

[Solved] Windows 7 start menu search work does not correctly
Hello
I hope you guys can help me with the following:
As I removed (through the registry) libraries in Windows 7 (see notice at the bottom) I can't find common things such as 'cmd' 'Notepad' or 'calc (tab'ulator)' find the programs installed in the search from the start menu, but CAN FIND paths like C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe. Research in the Solution Explorer window is not affected by this problem. If I try to search for example "cmd" in the search for the start menu it says "no element not corresponding to your research." When I click on "See more results" it shows This popup (click here). So I restored the registry keys, but it will not work correctly again.FYI: I tried several things to solve this problem but never fixed it:
-see if the Windows Search service and Indexing Service are running (> Yes, auto-start)
-rebuild the index (it indexes 2 additional partitions on my hard drive, C:\Windows, C:\Users, C:\Program Files (x 86)------and standard folders like the Start Menu)
-Uninstall and reinstall Windows Search and Indexing Service (via Windows turn on or off features in the control panel > programs and features)
-delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search
-Tools Microsoft FixIt
-Troubleshooting (also the problems search and indexing)
-create new user accountI forgot something? If so, I'll tell you as soon as I remember.
Can anyone help me please with my w/out problem suggesting to reinstall Windows?
I use Windows 7 x 64 HomePremium SP1 on a
AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core Processor 4200 + 2.42 GHz with
4.00 GB of RAM and 500 GB HARD drive (partitioned into 3 disks).Notice:
In order to delete the libraries I removed/edited these registry keys:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\ {031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\ {031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\ {2112AB0A-C86A-4ffe-A368-0DE96E47012E}]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}" = -.I found a solution by myself.
If you have the same problem I had (really the same with above registry keys), just download this file: https://www.mediafire.com/?s4bt0447gk426r6 inside you will find 3 .reg files:
-to restore the registry keys and resolving the problem of search in the menu start
-through libraries in the start menu folders 'normal '.
-to cancel the passage of libraries in normal files. To have no problem trying to merge "undo_rem_libs.reg", first give yourself permissions (full control!) of the HKCR\CLSID\ {031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5} key by right-clicking on it > permissions... > advance > owner (tab) > click on your username > OK > again once, click your user name (this time in the 'group or user names') > check 'Allow' in the full control row > OK.
That's all! Now you can merge the .reg for restoring above file (see problem) removed key strings with the just installed new Windows 7 original data. The other .reg files in the archive must be explicit.
/ Edit:
NOTICE: this works on all versions 32 and 64 bit of Windows 7 (not tested on Windows 7 Starter). -
Need help with the Windows Vista Start Menu
So, I turned on my computer today and clicked on the start menu, I expanded the tab all programs and was shocked to see that it was empty. Tab Assecories, Extras and upgrades, games, all of them, all tabs have disappeared. Is any way to restore? I don't know how to get to the Defrag disk or cleaning disc or one of these things without it. Help, please!
-Tim
A plus for you to try.
It still happens today. Yes?
Why not do a system restore.
Choose 2 days ago, or a date then your list of all the programs worked as your restore point.

I want to go back to the Windows 7 start menu version. How can I do?
Original title: Windows Start menu 8
I don't like the Start Menu on Windows 8 and want to return to the version of Windows 7. How can I do?
Hello
Which is actually not so easy... especially if Win 8 has been pre-installed...
You almost buy Windows 7, or reinstall your pre-installed WINDOWS 7 If you have.
Even this may be a trick, because the installation of Win 8 probably messed up the process to make...
If you needed to restore to factory records, you might be lucky...
Another option would be to install something like the classic interface (free) or debut8 ($4.99).
Personally, I use debut8... for the most part, that you will think you are running Win 7 and still have features to win 8 If you want to use them...
I never tried the classic shell because I used a free trial of debut8 first. I decided it was well worth $ 5 and never studied further.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate - McAfee Firewall
Whenever I click on the "Start" button, and then in the box, type searh anything like 'Windows Media Player' or 'Google Chrome', he gives this result that says "programs" with a picture empty tiny next to him. Whenever I click on this point that says "Programs", it gives me this error:
"Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files being opened."
Yet, I have no restrictions on the computer... and despite this, everything is on the default options... I don't know why it does this
0I found a SOLUTION and it WORKED for me:
1. create another user (admin)
2 switch to the newly created user
3. run regedit
4 navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
5. a click - right-> export to a root directory or public folder
6. switch back to your original account
7 remove the keys above
8 run the exported .reg -

by right-clicking on "My Computer" then:
Properties-> (Advanced tab)-> settings (under Startup and recovery)-> EditNotepad then opens the appropriate file.
This will most likely be located on the disk that your BIOS is considered the primary boot device.

Hello
1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?
Follow these steps and check if they help.
Step 1:
I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.
a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
Explorer.exed. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.
Step 2:
Test the issue in a new user account.

Windows 7 - Start Menu power supply lack of button 'stop', 'sleep '.
Hi all
My power button on Start Menu is missing the 'Close' and 'Sleep' options. Everything is displayed is 'Locked', 'Disconnect' and 'Switch user' (in gray). I searched Internet solutions and tried * everything * recommended that in return, including:
-right click on the power button and by changing properties
-modification of the options in the application of power of Control Panel
-change the registry setting to Start Menu
-using the Group Editor to change the option to Start Menu power button
-checked all of my system files to be ok
I've been smart to do these things and always return the default settings later.
Other observations:
-the power button on the main Windows login screen * fact * have these options
-When you use the Control Panel power approx., I even not give me the option to change the Start Menu power button
I use Windows 7, 64 bit, professional on a Phenom II X 4 4 GB system.
Help! I'm a poster for the first time and I'm completely stumped.
Thank you
Minnesota Bob
I solved the problem. It turns out that there are two 2 group policy changes that had to be modernized. Here's what to do (some steps copied from Microsoft article)
Click Start, run.
Type gpedit.msc , and then click OK.
Navigate to the following location:
Taskbar and User Configuration Administration\menu located
Double click on "Remove and prevent access to the close command.
Select 'off '.Double-click on "Start change power button Menu"
Select "enabled."
Choose "Shutdown".
If you don't want to go through these steps, create a new user account will work as well. Of course, then transfer all your settings of the old user account.
