    On Windows Vista:

    1. Reboot your system.
    2. Open cmd.exe as an administrator by selecting Start Programs/Accessories.
    3. Right-click on command prompt and choose Run as administrator.
    4. Type in
      Unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
    5. Press ENTER.

If this does not help, please report back. I have another method that involves editing the registry.

  • Error code the Wmplayer.exe file has a Version number of 11.0.5721.5262 where was 11.0.5721.5145

No sound in Windows.  Message from the file Wmplayer.exe has a Version number of 11.0.5721.5262 where 11.0.5721.5145 was expected.  Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled.  This happened for no apparent reason.  Tried to install WMPlayer 11 Web site created for and still get the same message.   Help please?

    Hi AnnieT2053,

Although the error message prompts you to reinstall the Windows Media Player, reinstalling does not necessarily fix the problem. Generally, the error message appears again when you try to launch Windows Media player after reinstallation.

Method 1: To resolve the problem, perform the following steps:

    a. go to Start , then click run.

    b. type following command in the Open box and then press enter:

    c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP

The steps above resolve the confusion that your computer has been with the version numbers of Windows Media Player, and then corrects the error.

Method 2: Try the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    a. click Startand type cmd in the box start the search.

    b. right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click run as administrator.

    c. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue

    d. at the command prompts, the following line and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

    Hi rajendrankarunakaran,

This problem occurs if the version of wmp.dll is at odds with what is defined in the Windows registry.

Try the steps listed in the following article to resolve this problem:
  • the wmploc.dll file have a version number of 12.0.7601.17514 where 12.0.7601.18150 was expected

    Separated from this thread.

I'm having the exact same trouble that indicates the other user but I tried the link to download the media player from the link Windows 7 Home Premium (x 86) - 32-bit and the link does not work.

    What else do I do?

After typing in the command and pressing on enter, it is simply a new line and nothing happens. The fix for me on the link does not work for my Windows 7 and fix it did not work me.

You get no message output, but the concerned registry values have been set. The only thing is that you must run the command from a command-line administrator (step 3 above), otherwise it wouldn't work.

  • I received the error message: the file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6002.18111 where 11.0.6002.18311 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed correctly and must be reinstalled.

    Original title: MP3 Association.

    Hello

    Hello

I have 64 Ultimate, I had a problem with the version number of WMPLOC. DLL, see the attachment. I run Kaspersky AV completely up to date.
There is a lot of info on the net and none have worked in this newsgroup on how to fix this error however.

I tried to change the version of the file with resource hacker and I tried all the dos commands to save the version of the file, but it worked only partially.

I to WMP do not have access to the list of start/programs, don't y at - it programs in one and the list of features "Turn Windows features on or off", my desktop shortcut has been for version 32 bit and who made the error, as did double click an MP3 file.

I have 32 and 64 bit versions of WMP on my PC, I created a shortcut on the desktop for the 64 bit version and it works however I can't associate MP3s with the 64-bit version, dialogue 'Open with' reverts to the 32-bit version (and I get the error) even if I chose the wmplayer.exe in 64-bit file , I tried to rename the folder WMP 32 bit for windows does not find the exe file in this folder and it uses just Quicktime for the association.

Y at - it a fix for this problem of association?

    Thank you

    Daniel

I guess you need go to the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer as well for this. There should be a shortcut to this version in the Menu start - all programs. Tim Baets
