  First, try a Hard Reset as follows.

  Shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and then remove the battery.  Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.  Reinsert the battery, connect the power adapter and start Notepad.

  As I said, I hear about everything, except of You Tube. I hear on web pages, downloaded videos, music etc etc so I have not tried your suggestions. I noticed however that the You Tube videos have a speaker down icon to the left of the screen and mine showed an x next to it, suggesting its a been disabled. I double click the icon and the noise reappears! Somehow, in the past I have turned sound off. In any case everything is ok now so thank you for your interest.
