It sounds as if there is an incorrect boot entry in the Windows registry.

Sometimes the problem is a simple "characters in a path name where it should be two.  See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086

It can also be caused (especially on Dell computers) by a boot for his SB Audigy 2 card entry, although it is a very old problem that I expected to have been fixed now.  Remove the space before the value /L:ENG.  Or you can remove all of the SB Audigy 2 key - but it will be re-created the next time that you run the SB Audigy 2 application.

The places in the registry to check are

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

If you do not want to messing around in the Windows registry (as well be), follow these steps:

    • Click on start and then run.  In the box 'Opens', type msinfo32, and then click OK.
    • In the system information window, click on the + next to "Software Environment".
    • Then click on "startup programs".

It is a problem that appears from time to time.

In my C drive in the expanded Details view, under the file Windows are these. What is it? They do not appear in the Navigation mode. Can they be deleted safely?

I find the names of similar files in my user account properties and occasionally in my external hard drive.
The only thing I can find, but for this, am suspicious of is that they can be files created by Norton, a newspaper any. Although I am generally able to identify those of the own file created by the analysis of privacy by Symantec Norton Utilities.

These files are temporary etilefrine some installations/uninstallations. You can delete it to save space and they are of no use. But note that some files are accessible by some programs, so that the files cannot be deleted. In this case, not ignore them. But do not delete the temp/tmp folders in the local directory directly. You can only delete the files in the folders. However, you can delete the folder directly, if it is present in the external storage.

Also, change any setting in this regard in Environment Variables.

Help!     I ran Malwarebytes, Eset, Symantec (SEP) Diskcleanup is what is on my computer

    Thanks, JD

I don't know what you mean by the icon "open with."  It seems that if the previous user was associated with the file extension "DAT" Nero. Instructions to undo this association is at the bottom of this answer.

The "DAT" file extension is a very common extension.  Most of these files are files 'DATa' and not intended to be opened by the casual user.  You really shouldn't be deleting random files like that.  There is a good reason that you could not remove the ntuser.dat files - it is a part of the Windows registry that specifies a large number of your Windows profile information.

If by 'Eset' you mean that you have run the Eset online scanner, it's OK.  If you mean that you have Eset NOD32 Antivirus, then you have too many antivirus applications (I delete MS in favour of NOD32, but see the next paragraph).

Many people would deem prudent to completely reinstall Windows on any computer you get used.  Not sure what's on this computer and this is the case, what you know not certainly can harm you - in addition to a.

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything in the list below, in order, before connecting the machine to the internet or a local network (i.e. other computers) and before you plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external computer diskotherwise:

    1. Make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled.
    2. Uninstall all now invalid Norton, McAfee, etc., free version of test which was also reinstalled, run the appropriate removal tool (see below), and then install an application antivirus of your choice (for example, http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspxMicrosoft Security Essentials- free). [This does not apply to Symantec Endpoint Protection; this product is not likely to have been offered as a "free trial" and the Norton Removal Tool should not be used with seven].
    3. Arrival to Windows Update & get the computer fully patched.

TIP: Use another and negative computer to download programs for, for example, SP2 or SP3 installation, the installer for your new anti-virus application and or other removal tools cited below. Transfer these files to CD or DVD (not a flash drive) and then transfer the files of the CD or DVD on the desktop of the computer you are using.

Considering that Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed mainly on the company's computers (that is, not the personal computers), the initially configured COMPUTER company service computer may have removed the ability to restore the computer to its factory condition.  If this is the case, you can get from Dell recovery media.

If for any reason you decide not to reinstall Windows, you can unbind of DATS with NERO as follows:

  • The files are currently encryption automatically.

A lot of word documents and my son is creating programs c ++ are automatically encrypted.  When the document is opened, it is said user has access privileges.  When I try to uncheck the encryption properties, I get an access denied message.  I'm doing this as an administrator.

Where Devil am I going to stop this?

Where can I fix the access denied message?

How to change permanently the user permissions for all users to have all permissions for the created documents?

These files are under encryption by the Encrypting File System (EFS).  This seems to indicate that you have a XP Pro and not XP Home.  When it comes to the EFS, administrators don't have little or no power to decrypt these files.  Even if you are an administrator, you will not be able to access these files.

With impatience...  You can access the encrypted files is to create a "EFS Recovery Agent.  You can then use the recovery agent to access any encrypted file after the agent has been installed.  You will find that only the encrypted files after the recovery agent is in place can be consulted.  Files created before then will not be available.

You can also disable EFS.  You can do this with group policy in a domain environment, but at home, a registry value can be changed.  Use with caution.  If you do not understand what follows or how to change the registry, not to do so.

«Note: Group Policy sets a registry key which is verified by the EFS during user operations.» The key is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EFS\EfsConfiguration
In the case of local computers that are not members of a domain, local politics is not available for the deactivation of EFS.
However, a different registry key can be set to disable EFS. If the key is set to a DWORD value of 0x01, EFS will be disabled.

If it's any consolation, EFS is known as the 'Recycle Bin delay' because if a user does not save the certificate (as it is most are not), all crashing Windows requiring a re-installation of Windows will permanently remove access to these files to everyone.

  • Portable joined to the domain and now the user files are missing.

Our server (SBS 2003) crashed and I had to rebuild it and then I had to join a laptop in our area and now all the files for this person is missing.  We use the option synchronize folders when this person was missing and now I wonder where all these files are gone?

We had no backups (I know, I know) so now we have a couple of people who have lost all their data.  Is there a way to make it back the computer joined to the domain?  Some kind of folder offline connection or cache somewhere?  I checked the documents and Settings folder, but the user profiles 'My Documents' is empty.

  • All my files are set to read-only. The files are not.

All records are all my disks are set to read-only. This includes my drive c, d Bank, e-reader and my backup drive.

The files contained in these files are not read-only. How I found out about it, was that I tried to copy / paste a file from one directory to another last night and it was not authorized. Please keep in mind that I am logged on as administrator. There is only one user, me.

I ran a recent analysis of spyware, virus scan and checked the permissions of users. I unchecked the read-only installation and reset my pc and it still comes up read-only.

    This causes a major problem.

  • Windows 7 laptop - files are open in a new window despite "open in the same window" is selected under "Tools" folder options

This seems to have started randomly out of the blue and it's quite annoying. When you work with folders, I end up having a bunch of files that need to be closed and I usually don't want to close all; I usually have to sort numeorus files open to find what I'm looking for, as opposed to easily using the back button to return to a folder I want. I have not downloaded programs. The only thing I can think is deleting browser explore because I never use it (it is incredibly slow and slows down my computer laptop while each opening by mistake) and i ' LD fashioned just get rid of it.

How I deleted the browser explore:

-I went to control panel, then programs, then display the updates installed and then uninstalled IE from here

I looked everywhere on the internet, but I can't talk about what most of these solutions. Some people are proposing the deletion of the registry files. I know that these files are really important and I don't want to delete anything and cause a big problem for me.

Some of the solutions use language I don't understand; they give you a solution and a lot of people claim that it works, but how run the solution is not explained; If this is not enough. I assume that the solutions are designed for people who are good with computers, but I'm not, so if you are answering this, explain your solution in words that even a baby would be able to follow the instructions. Please do not automatically assume that I know where something is and leave out of your explanation, because chances are, I'm not.

Problem solved: I reinstalled the browser explore the microsoft Web site. I guess they really want users to have the browser on their computer, to be used or not: s

  • install new software, but the files are old

I just got a Palm Centro.  I had a Palm 505 for years, had Palm desktop on my Vista computer for 1 1/2 years.  I installed the Palm Desktop software that came with my Centro on my Vista computer and my calendar, notes, addresses all look as they did there is 1 1/2 years.  I had synced immediately before installing the new software.  I had a return to the top of my file with all these files, so I replaced my 'Kris' file with address, calendar, etc. files.  I closed my Palm Desktop and restarted.  No luck, I'm still all my old info - not up to date.  I have not synced my phone with the computer, because it is not good.  And, I'm afraid to synchronize my current palm and lose everything out there (since my "backup") doesn't seem to work.  Help!  How to bring back all my current info?

Did you install the version of Palm desktop that you got with the Centro, 6.2?

There is a procedure to try to recover your files. Search in the following location to the user name of Palm Desktop folder.

    C:\Users\(Windows username) \Documents\Palm OS Desktop\

Look in the folder of user name for category folders, of addresses/contacts, calendar/calendar, etc. In these files are data files. Search for files with names like address.mdb, address.mdb.bak. The .mdb file is the current data file, the. mdb.bak is the backup file. Try to rename the .mdb file to. mdb.old. Then rename it. mdb.bak (remove the.bak extension) .mdb file. Open Palm desktop and see if the data is there. IF you do not have the .bak file, then you cannot rename to retrieve the data.

When you migrate to a new device, use of palm desktop 6.2, the files of the old version of Palm desktop in the user name folder are not compatible. You can't drag and drop the files to the new user name folder.  Data in Palm desktop 6.2 files are in a format that Microsoft Access Datbase, so the extension .mdb.

See if you can rename the files .mdb first to see if you can recover the data. If you can not use method, can 'clean up' uninstall Palm desktop currently installed, install the version you were using before the update, copy the username folder you backed up from the old version and paste it into the old Palm Desktop folder. Open Palm desktop and see if the data is there. Another option is to sync the old device to the old version of Palm desktop and then export the data.

Once it is installed and you have data intact in the old version of Palm desktop, export data, install the new Palm desktop and import the data. The export and import procedure, you can use the data in any version of Palm desktop.

If the change of name does not work, do the 'clean' Uninstall using instructions below.

You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
is happening. You can find your data files by clicking on start--> Documents-->
Palm OS Desktop. Select your Palm Desktop user name, and then right-click and
copy. Then go to the desktop of your PC, click on a blank spot block and select.

Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove anything that has to do
with Palm Desktop on your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista username] \appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista username] \appdata
    * Note You may need to show hidden folders to join appdata. To do this go
in your control panel and folder options open. Go to the tab and disable
    hide hidden files.
Once this is done, you will need to remove certain keys in the registry of your PC operating system.

Word of warning, go here and removing the wrong thing can cause your PC
commissioning, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you're not sure of yourself, see if you have a friend who can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to remove. To make sure that we have a good copy of the current registry, we make a backup of the registry.

Go to start on your PC in the search box type "regedit.exe" without the quotes.

Highlight COMPUTER, go to--> export file. Should appear with a save as box.
Current place of residence is fine, must be within My Documents, or save to a location that you will remember. In the name of the file in low type "backup [todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Then, the most difficult part.

The best way to ensure that your work with the right key, select the key that is installation quick palm and press delete on your keyboard. You will be asked, you of course. Say Yes. Do the same for all the keys below.

If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.

The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of the theses reg keys won't be here)

  • The PNG files are saving TOO! ??? Help, please!

When I save a PDF page in PNG format, it used to be only about 65 k, but now I do the same exact things and it's about 270 KB - these files are simply too large. I tried to flatten the image, which reduces by half, but it's still too big. What can I do to get my smaller file sizes again?

Yes. If you have layered file, you certainly want to flatten it unless there is one reason for others to see or use the layers.

Then, we will try to file > export > save for Web. Here, you have a view of the size of the file in real-time under your preview... If it's not too complex with colors, try PNG 8/256 colors.  Look at these settings and see if they work.

  • Muse files are independent? (that is to say it's all in a single file?)

I was kind of bad in the Organization of the files I've been placing objects in my project of muse.

All these files are included in the file of muse?

As in, delete files on my computer once I've saved in my file of muse?  Or I have to keep all those for editing?

    Hi jmflu,

I suggest you keep all content, images and/or videos that you have used in your Muse site. You can use the active panel to find where all your linked assets are and move to a single folder manually. When you move your files autour, you will get the missing links. You can recreate a link to one of these files to the new folder location, and Muse will look in that folder for all your other missing links.

In addition, if you right-click (windows) or Ctrl-click(Mac OS) an image appearing in the active panel and choose Embed link, Muse will embed the image in site .muse file and remove the link to the original image. With this, you won't have to worry about the related images.
