Thinkpad IBM T41p gel

My T41p crashes after a few minutes. I decided to shut it down and when I run upward it lights but will not show all the lights and custom begin to run until I have power on/off or unplug and turn the computer back on.

The weird part is that when I run PC - doc, it works great!

PC - doc would not be important if overheating because it seems terribly hot and I could have damaged fan when dusting with high compressor by side fan!

I already reset the computer to factory settings and it did not help.

I think to remove since no warranty and dusting/tighten all connections.

What I want to know mainly is could I erase the entire hard drive of the PC - doc which removes everything, including the IBM Access (I think) and install windows XP sp3 from the disc and be OK? [my computer came with XP]

It could be a software issue since it works on PC - doc perfectly. I am running a diagnostic test.

Mine is not that bad because it works on PC - doc, screen just freezes not show anything weird. He worked some time now and it could just be a fan problem of overheating or software.

Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

I think you have more of a problem than you think...

PC Doctor will reveal that the most obvious problems. There is much that it does not detect.

Open the machine, remove the keyboard (but keep that it connected) and the palmrest. Remove the wireless card. Start the machine. When it freezes, press on * gently * on the big square marked "Intel chip" under the wireless card slot. If the laptop starts to behave normally, the SouthBridge chip must be re-balled, or the motherboard replaced altogether.

Good luck and we keep abreast.

  • How to replace the Ethernet adapter internal of an IBM ThinkPad T60p

Several IBM ThinkPad T60p. unfortunately I have a ThinkPad shows in the BIOS "(internal network) MAC address: 00 00 00 00 00 00' and sometimes ' 02 00 00 00 00 00". The Green LED next to the Ethernet connector is also dark if this laptop is powered (adapter attached) and a network cable is connected. That's why no Wake on LAN is possible. To my surprise, the network card works under Windows and there is also a MAC address. Wake on LAN is also possible in Windows.

Because all the BIOS settings and also the BIOS version are exactly the same on all the other ThinkPads IBM T60p I think there is a problem with my internal Ethernet card.

Anyone know if it is possible to replace this internal Ethernet card? I ask because I also have an IBM ThinkPad T60p, which is broken and that's why I intend to Exchange Ethernet adapters internal if possible.

I think that they are integrated on the MB, so it's not possible

  • problem install shared printer on windows 7 64 bit

    Hey guys

I recently got a thinkpad IBM with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

We have a HP Laserjet 3015 which is shared on the windows xp professional computer.  I can't install on my computer. If I connect the printer to my computer via the USB port, windows find the drivers and it works.

The problem is when I try and insatll it on the network it doesn't. I can search and find a computer to which it is attached, and see it in the list of shared printers, but when I ever I try to connect it says connection > > search on windows update > > can't find drivers. It gives me the opportunity to find the drivers to install. I downloaded the drivers on the HP site, but they do not help. whenever I select them in the manual it comes with an error indicating that the driver is not found then give u the option to install it yourself. When you select the driver it says windows cannot find an appropriate driver.

How can I get around this?

Try the following: on the Windows 7 computer go to file devices and printers, add a local printer, printer, create a new port, port Local, next, \\xpcomputername\lj3015 (where you put in the real share of the computer name and printer), OK, Windows Update (and wait for the list to repopulate), HP Laserjet 3015 PCL5, then, then.

If WinXP SP1 (a fortiori SP2 and SP3) is not installed, you couldn't possibly have a functional application of the antivirus installed. Therefore, the computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers).

  • How to know if a new T40 has wireless

Sorry, I have to ask fundamental and seemingly simple questions, but I can't understand this. I had a T40 2373-1U1 model on which the motherboard went bad. I plug a 'skeleton' off eBay type system, installed my old hard drive and runs again. The new system is a 2373-7CU. I don't see the symbol of air bit at the bottom of the LCD when it is open. I don't see the bluetooth symbol as my last computer was. However, when I'll be in the Device Manager and check for a card wireless network, there are none (just the rigid cable adapter). I tried the Add New Hardware Wizard, but he found nothing to add. Advice from those of you who know more than me. Thank you - Ken

You can only use the original version of Thinkpads/IBM wireless cards, version of other companies may give you an error message.

  • New keyboard or shift button available in Serbia?

I am in Belgrade during the winter break and my Thinkpad has failed. My left shift key fell because pimples plastic on plastic (translucent/white) moving parts disappeared.

This is the third mechanical failure on my current Thinkpad simply due to wear. It's only a little more than two years. My last Thinkpad a T41p had 4 years before the welds on the default display began - and that was the only failure, the computer never known. I'm afraid that the build quality may suffer a bit.

So far on this computer, I have replaced the hinge and am about to replace the touchpad / palm rest Assembly. The left button of the mouse wore out and is no longer usable.

I do some CAD work and having a broken button shift is maddeningly annoying. Is there a way to get a new keyboard delivered to my apartment in Belgrade, or y at - it a local service center that would have new keyboards in stock? My warranty is parts only at this time, but I'm happy to do the work myself. I managed to change my LCD hinges without any problem. I tried calling American support number via Skype, but my internet connection did not work well enough for me actually communicate clearly.

HM, I would if I had more time before my departure. I leave in three days!

Should I also listed my current computer. I have a T61p, 4:3 varieties of 14.1 ". It is still under warranty, so I would like to see if I can get the part replaced by Lenovo. The problem is that they have no support for the Serbia phone number. I could try to call Croatia...

    Thank you!!

Edit: I managed to get Skype to work and I got to the American line. They are sending me a new keyboard to my home before my arrival. Yay! Everything is supported.

    Separated from this thread.

I have the same problem. My BIOS date is 2008. Yet, I received all of the updates until I went to 10. Last modification on 12/15/2015.  In other words, it was valid until then. !!! Prior to level and even qualified to go to 10.  I'm assuming that when I upgraded, it was validated by 10. Why should I have to pay 109.00 to obtain another copy of windows 7 Home premium.

I suggest that you run the diagnostic tool Microsoft Genuine Advantage in normal mode and copy and paste the results into a response for further analysis:

Can I just send my adapter wireless for HP and ask them to send me a new?

My wireless card is labelled as "AS #: 418572-001 SPS #: 441090-001. An Ebay search for "441090-001" returns several cards of the same branded wireless network than mine and identical to mine in appearance. Instead of trying to get HP to fix my laptop should I buy a new wireless adapter and install it myself?

Users to read this, please answer the question if you have a relevant personal experience.
I read of clients receiving computers repaired HP with new damage (http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447627+1245913498963+28353475&threadId=1143379), likely incurred during transport or repair of HP. After receiving a HP laptop repair, have you seen new scratches, dents, cracks, or other damage?

I have my HP laptop, works perfectly.

    To answer my own questions:

Yes, my cell phone was eligible for a free repair.

No, I couldn't send just the wireless network adapter (would have been a mistake anyway).

No, HP has not damaged my laptop.

I contacted HP and established that my laptop was entitled to repair to the title of "HP limited warranty extra Service. HP sent me a box with a prepaid FedEx label, and I sent them my laptop. Before sending to my HP laptop, I removed the hard drive; the low probability of my data get damaged was unacceptable; I have backed up my data, but that would have taken two days to USB data transfer speed. I got my laptop back to HP repair in the next few days and after a thorough inspection, I find no damage to the laptop caused by HP, if it was a lil dusty. For a while I thought I found a new crack loosed in a low service panels, but after looking at the photos I had taken before sending the laptop I found that the crack is not new, so Bravo to HP.

With the laptop repaired, HP sent a document that details the "motherboard" and 'Thermal Pad' had been replaced. I was curious to know exactly what work had been done, so I called HP and asked questions about spare parts references. The "motherboard" was part number 10MBZZZ0TPJ, which a Google search has this part is also known as 443775-001 and it costs about $190 to replace. The "thermal Pad" had JXAT3001010 part number, which I have found no info on.

    CAVEAT! CAVEAT! NERD RANT!
Frankly, when I first called HP on the problem, the person I spoke to kept implying that it was the motherboard that needed to be replaced NOT the wireless network adapter, and I thought it was absurd; much more likely that it was a problem of component. Now that I have the confirmation that it was the motherboard, I am quite concerned that in about two years I'm going to need a different motherboard, and the "HP limited warranty extra Service" warranty only lasts for 90 days from now. Motherboard failure should be the exception, not the norm! I have several computers that are nine and ten years OLD and works very well when properly proposed. I have my grandmother using a desktop Dell Optiplex 2000 computer to check his e-mail. I have a Mac Powerbook from 1999 that I emulate video games and I'm using a ThinkPad IBM in 2002 as a jukebox for my Entertainment Center. A few months ago I was repairing 9 old Dell Optiplex (2000 vintage) offices, on the job had a bad motherboard VGA video and a keyboard bad connection PS/2; failure motherboard 22% after nine years! For the motherboard to miss my DV6000 since 2007 is ridiculous.

    skippyh2o:
Call HP. They will probably fix your problem for free.

Why you reinstall vista in the first place? Have you tried to solve the problem with your wireless network card?

If you have lost wireless once (first occurrence), reinstalled vista to try to solve the problem has got back wireless, and started to update and still lost wireless (second instance) then I would agree this is probably a software problem. If losing wireless after that resettlement was only the first occurrence of losing wireless, then maybe you should try re-reinstall. The point at which you lost wireless have actual hardware failure, it all depends on if you can get wireless back, willingly or by force. I knew my hardware problem and not software because I had an installation of Windows 7 that I knew worked very well, but still he could see my wireless network card.

In any case... Try calling HP. side of customer support call center jobs being outsourced in India, I must say that I am satisfied with the HP Technology Support; Although I'd be quite satisfied with the quality of their product!

  • IBM ThinkPad T41 disk HARD & WiFi issues

    Hello!

    I use a laptop ThinkPad T41. Type/model number is 2373-2 FG.

I just bought a new battery for it and I'm going to a new Ultrabay Battery also.

I am strugling on a few things that I can't find information anywhere.

What is the size of the disk is the newest BIOS for this support of the model?

Can I get a HD 80 GB or 120 GB 2.5 "and just drag it in there?

The original 40 GB HDD is not big enough.

Also what kind of MiniPCI WLAN cards are supported by the most recent BIOS?

I just bought an Intel 2200 WLAN card so I could trade on the map of 2100.

I like the laptop as it is, but with a few adjustments, it would be much more usable.

You can even install the last WD 320 hard drive, it will work. Will to any portable PATA/IDE 9.5 mm.

Regarding wireless cards, any card listed at number 14 on this page works:

  • IBM Thinkpad T30 RAM Flaw

    IBM Thinkpad T30

    Manufactor Date: July 2003

    OS: Windows XP Pro SP3

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.9 Ghz

    RAM: 512 MB

    HARD drive: Hitachi DK23FA-60

Graphics card: ATi Mobility 7500 w/16 MB RAM Radeom

I realize it's a very old laptop but it still works to this day and I use it every day.

I've been a bit online and I found that there is a design with the motherboard fault. More precisely the location of the hard drive and RAM above the other causes a lot of heat build-up to this place. IBM (now Lenovo) offered a repair or replacement of the laptop for a few years I know. My question is Lenovo continues to do this or not? I got this laptop a month ago and a half, so I have not long. Unfortunately I have no money to even pay for the repair and even less to ship for repair. Is there something I can look at?

    Welcome to the forum!

It's been years since the replacement program of the Board of Directors on T30 units had ended.

Your best bet is to install a single 1 GB DIMM in the 'healthy' location and use the machine like this if one of the RAM slots failed.

    Good luck.

  • IBM ThinkPad T42 would not connect to my home network secure wireless

Configuration IP of Windows __An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning. __Please contact support services technical microsoft for more help.

Others have had a similar problem, but I tried the solutions that have worked for them, without success.

All of a sudden, my IBM ThinkPad T42 wouldn't connect to my home network (WPA2-PSK) secure wireless.  It would be either (1) stay in a constant state of "acquiring network address" or (2) do not recognize networks wireless in the range.  Sometimes, it would connect to a nearby unsecured network, but the network would still not appear in the list of available wireless networks.  So I tried to connect directly to the ethernet, which also did not work.  I then ran the ipconfig/all command at the command prompt and got the message:

    Windows IP configuration
An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Contact support services technical microsoft for more help.
Additional information: unknown media status code.

So, I went to Microsoft Product Support Services, which does not seem to offer all the solutions.  I searched this error online and found several similar problems - some users had problems with viruses.  Some users had winsock2 corruption, and some recommended to reinstall the drivers for my network cards.  I'm computer literate, but not a computer Wizard, so I was able to follow their instructions for checking the winsock2 corruption (I think), and I think it's very good.  I did a complete scan of symantec, but who came with nothing.  I downloaded the drivers for my network cards which are: Wireless - 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter, ethernet - connection of a Mobile Intel (r) PRO/1000 MT and was able to update my wireless driver, but not the driver ethernet.  The latter Assistant said we "could not find a better match for your hardware than the software currently installed".  I had wireless internet to work for a few hours last night, even if I still have the same error message when I run ipconfig/all.  I started my computer this morning, and the same problem again - constantly says "address of network acquisition" even if no wireless networks are appearing on the list.  Also, I tried the system restore to see if I could go back before the problem started, but after that I tried several dates, System Restore has still not successful - it wouldn't work again.

So now, I have my computer in safe mode, and it is connected to the wireless internet, even if the ipconfig/all command still gives the same message, and I am running symantec again to see if I can find something!

Please help me!  If you think that I may have missed something with the winsock2 or installing drivers, or if there is something I could not find on the internet, please let me know!  I'll try anything.

Note: I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
Network card drivers, I'm running are:
    Wireless: Date - 02/05/2007, Version 4.1.2.156, provider - Atheros
    Ethernet: Date - 24/10/2006, Version 8.7.9.0, provider - Intel

    Thank you!

Update: when I disable the Intel PRO/1000 MT driver, I can run ipconfig/all with success.  Then imagine it's something to do with this adapter or the driver.  Any ideas?

OK, so here is what I did to solve this problem.

I've updated to the latest version of the IBM BIOS

Then get the WLAN driver from the manufacturer, NOT IBM, NOT Windows Update. Depending on your card, it will be Cisco or Intel.

I can not stress enough that updates to IBM and Windows update does not work and I lost a lot of time. However, once downloaded directly from the manufacturer (new version) worked flawlessly!
