ThinkPad r40 cpu

Hi I'm new to computers thinkpad and just bought a r40 thinkpad with a pentium m 1.3 ghz cpu and thought of the upgradeing the cpu, my question is what is the max speed, I can upgrade this laptop which has 1 GB of ram

The faster you can go is Pentium M 1.7 Banias. Forget the P4M, what is happening in another type of card mother R40.

These machines will have 2 GB of RAM, BTW.

The most notable speed improvement will be to get a newer drive.

Good luck.

  • ThinkPad R61i CPU Upgrade

Thinking about upgrading the processor on my ThinkPad R61i.

    It is dated date 08/02 R61i 7650-D6G (15.4 ", without IEEE).

    A currently a T5450 @ 1.66 Ghz and GM965/GL960 chipset.

As the T5450 has a 667 MHz front bus and is 65nm litho - do I have to stick with Merom chips (and not go for the Penryn)? (The GM965 should support an 800 MHz FSB - but do not know if the Council itself would be).

Am I limited to the series T5xxx (i.e. 2 MB Cache), or could I go for a T7xxx? (even those that were made after the date of the laptop?).

Also - is the BIOS not official (I forgot what it's called now - Middleton?) upgrade (?) a good thing to do?

Help and above all experience, much appreicated - thanks guys!

    Welcome to the forum!

Middleton BIOS is a must on any * system 61 in my view.

As for the CPU, you can certainly opt for a processor Merom (T7300, 7500, 7700, 7800). According to the review board, you might or might not be able to use a processor Penryn (T8100/8300/9300/9500).

The biggest upgrade will be a decent SSD and 4 GB of RAM, though, even if you choose to go with one of the processors less powerful but very cheap as T7300/7500.

    Happy update.

  • Help! ThinkPad R40 model 2722 synaptics touchpad driver not working not touchpad work not

I have r40 model 2722, with touchpad and trackpoint together, the driver of this site that suites windows xp says that's not compatible hardware, it brings the error message. The trackpoint is ok.

    Help, please

much appritiation so it's as soon as possible,

    Thank you in advance.

If there is no UltraNav options in the BIOS, your touchpad is defective or not connected.

Remove the keyboard and check if the UltraNav is connected to the motherboard, the cable is quite visible once the keyboard is removed.

    Good luck.

  • Adapter of drive HARD R40

I find a lot of conflicting information on what would be suitable for a R40 Thinkpad Ultrabay HDD adapter. I know that the reader must be parallel ATA, series No. One that comes up most often is 08 k 6067, which is for Ultrabay 2000, but the R40 has a Ultrabay housing more and supoosedly they aren't caches. In his favor the official Maintenance Thinkpad R40 manual lists it as correct to use unit and I know it's the truth. Someone knows he sure if this iron is, indeed, the correct unit, or should I be looking for another?

The original 20G HARD drive getting ready to die, and I think it would be the best approach to make a disk image of my current/programs/files system would. Advice on this topic would be also welcome.

UltraBay 2000 adapter works perfectly in your R40.

  • R40 2681 maximum GB memory upgrade - need help

    Hello

You just bought an old IBM Thinkpad R40 type 2681 and know nothing of these things. Sorry if these questions are in the wrong forum, but I can't find anywhere else, he could go.

I tried searching for answers but the more I do, more confusing, it becomes so I thought I'd just ask and see if anyone responds.

    1. I read that the maximum that you can increase the memory is 1 GB, but also found that said you can go up to 2 GB of messages.

What is the correct answer - 1 GB or 2 GB?

    2. If the answer is 2 GB, the R40 will be able to use all or only 1 GB of it?

    3. what brand will work in the R40?

The unit currently has a 256 MB & 512 MB inside.

    4. it will make much more of a difference in the computer?

I hate to bore you with these basic questions, but I don't know anything about these, or any other laptops.

You can install any portable PATA/IDE size hard drive, a larger 320 GB / 5400 RPM.

Quick PATA drives are 7200 RPM are no longer made, everything is 5400 RPM of today.

You can install XP from a disk to the detail, or a set of recovery disks - your choice. Newer operating systems such as Vista and W7 doesn't play well with R40.

    Good luck.

When you use Connection Manager, I have the ability to use WPA. in windows (zero configuratoin, it still doesn't work)

In addition, I had to change my router to support the types b & g (it was set to "g only").

My thinkpad R40 does not start and I was told it might be the BIOS battery.  Where is the battery and how do I change it?

    Thank you

You have older questions that just a BIOS battery which has turned...

Try to hang the unit to an external monitor and check if it shows anything.

Should that fail, remove the RAM and see if the unit beeps when turned on without it.

  • R40 | a question about the battery

    Hi, I need advice.

    I have a Thinkpad R40.

I had no problem until I got the malware Mirar.

I took in a center of the computer room to have my data backed up and re-installation of the operating system.

When I came back, the battery showed a 67% charge - which descended rapidly evenwhile hung to the sector.

He remained at 0% since then.

Before that, it would cool up to 97-99% and I could get at least 30 minutes of work on batteries - which was key for me.

Now I can not even one second of work powered by batteries.

I asked at the store, and they have confirmed that this is the same battery.

    My questions are,

    1. a battery can disappear within three days?

2 - is a kind of a driver related issue that I can check?

Thanks in advance for your advice

Here's a guide written by Mark Lenovo and myself, it's on swap of CPU, but if you go down to the bottom, look in the 'pdf guide', it is made especially to replace the thermal paste.

You want to get is "Artic Silver #5", you can find it on Ebay or Amazon.com. Clean old dough your CPU and GPU, then clean with a soft cloth and a little alcohol, don't use alcohol with essences or oils added, get pure, as hard as you can get.

Apply sparingly, only the size of a grain of rice, then spread it on the chip. When you reinstall the heatsink, you want covered as little as possible. Well stick and you can overheat and little things and you have the same problem. If you are not comfortable, so do not, find someone who is.

On the subject of your time, they are not extremely high, but it is strange that your GPU is higher then your CPU. Now after many hours of use, my CPU is 63C, my GPU is 52c. If I run graphic games/applications, my CPU will reach the 80 low and give the My fan at high speed, the GPU is rarely more than 70, so if your readings are correct, you have a bad contact on your GPU, but I suggest you to uninstall this application of fan and try thinkpad fan (TPfancontrol.com) control. It of freeware and when your temp is high, assign the (7-speed) manual and they have cool fast, if it is not, then your radiator/fan does not work as it should, and if you have a GPU nVidia, your in danger of frying your chip, which means that you will need a new system board.

    Good luck

    Hello world.

Time to update my old SL400.

I am the eye on the E531 but also tempted by the T530 with full HD. I got the following response regarding the specifications of the screen

    E531: 15.6 "(396mm) color FHD (1920 x 1080), 16:9 aspect ratio, 500: 1 contrast ratio, anti-glare, LED backlight, 300 nits"

Some please explain to me the differences.

I mentioned I want to mainly improve for Lightroom and Photoshop 5. The old just chockes SL400 and a pain to work with RAW files.
