ThinkPad series Hard Drive Bay adapter III as main hard drive?

Hi all

my work laptop is a 400 T running on Win XP. I would like to start an installation of Windows 7 on a hard drive physical which is not possible with my employer in the near future.

My idea is now to have a second HD in the Hard Drive Bay adapter III series (let's say that the)

ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive of 320 GB at 7200 RPM) on which I'd install Win 7. I would then configure the adapter Bay to be the first HD to boot from. I would reconfigure the system to use the internal HD every time I need Win XP with the company of my other stuff.

I don't want to install Win 7 in another partition I want to take the risk of what going to the XP machine ;-)

The scenario described above is valid or I have to take account of anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Sascha

saschabeltz, welcome to the forum,

as the States of cassio , you can boot from a hard drive in the Bay adapter. The best way to do it, after you install in the main Bay is to press F12 at startup; This will allow you to choose the device you want to boot from.

ended up finding the Hitachi Travelstar 2.5 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA II 16 MB Cache internal hard - 0S 03339 and Thinkpad Sata HD Bay adapter 3, both from Amazon. the model # on the Amazon unit is the same as the one on the Lenovo site, but was $30 cheaper. Ran $89,99, vs. $61,17 for the 500 GB Hitachi 750 GB... I hope it works like the 500 GB

  • ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay fit III 43N3412 for T61

Anyone know if this adapter works for T61?

So far I couldn't find this "40Y8725 ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter" on the site that says work for T61.  But I thought Ultrabay options are supposed to be interchangeable? I hope that this is the case.

I prefer to buy the newer model if it is compatible for the T61.

It's one of the T61. Ultrabay slim housing uses a PATA connectio to the motherboard of the laptop, so the adapter you buy contains a SATA to PATA chip to allow you to use a SATA hard drive.

While the new thinkpads, T400, T500, R400, R500, X 200, W500 all use a SATA connection on the motherboard of the laptop, so the device ultrabay for previous machines are not physically compatible. This move is due to the need to allow full support SATAII.

  • Second Hard Drive Bay Adapter compatibility - T530

    Hello

I intend to buy the secondary Bay adapter for my Lenovo Thinkpad T530.

What would be the most important I should consider before ordering the adapter and HARD drive?

The Ultrabay adapter comes in two 12.7 mm and 9.5 mm thickness. Your T530 uses the 12.7 mm. You can save money by buying an adapter clone on eBay.

Here is a video of a manufacturer of clone cards which shows how to install the HARD drive on the adaoter and the adapter in and out the ThinkPad:

  • Boot from the 2nd drive HARD modular bay adapter (satellite P20)

    Hello

I have a SP20-102 and I replaced the stock model with a 120 GB Seagate HDD and moved the original disc in a Module Bay HDD adapter.

Is it possible to configure things so I can choose which HARD drive to boot from at the start, i.e. it is by default on the internal HARD drive but I can't choose to boot from the HARD drive in the modular Bay?

I tried pressing F12 to boot device selection screen, but am unable to choose the 2nd HARD drive.

    Any ideas?

    R.

    Hello Robin

As far as I know that it is not possible to boot from the external HARD drive. It is not supported.

    Good bye

  • Disk W530 Hard Drive Bay Adapter problem

W530 ordered on 14/01/2014. I replaced the 500 GB with a SSD hard drive and wanted to use the reader HGST it came with a disc of Nimitz adapter. I can delete the partition and create a new volume, but it fails during format. It fails even when it is formatted a ready to use.

I have a 250 GB drive at 5400 RPM Hitachi which works very well in the Bay. With the help of a USB drive Bay I can delete the volume and rebuild the drive of 500 GB. Why do I have a problem with this drive in the drive Bay?

I plugged the hot formatted disk and it lights up immediately, I backup on it now. I don't know why I got so many problems earlier.

    Thanks for the reply.

  • Hard disk ThinkPad Advance Dock using an ultra bay adapter

I just added an extra hard drive in my Dock in advance.  I initialized and formatted.  Can I copy files to it.  Everything seems fine, except that I can't start the computer with the hard disc in the dock.  It hangs at startup Lenovo screen - is yet to get to the point where she tries to load Windows Vista.

No idea how to overcome this?  It of a pain to have to remove and reinsert the hard drive, every time that I start.  Thank you!

After spending four hours on the phone with support from Lenovo, install updates (under their orders) which weaken other programs, install the new docking station, they sent, still no resolution.

Called my guy from dell support.  He had the answer for me on top of her head.  No research, no digging through the KB articles.

I write the resolution here in the hope that it will help some other poor soul who knew my problem.

Go into the BIOS.  Go to Config.  Go to USB.  Disable the option to boot from USB devices.

Computer now starts fine with hard drive installed in the docking station.  No problems.  Now, if I can fix it just my other programs that will is broken...

  • HP Pavilion 9700 series - Hard Drive Compatibility

    Hello

I have a laptop HP Pavilion 9700 (dv9827cl) which has stopped working. I hit the power button and it turns off within 2 seconds.

This has happened before and I had to fix. He has worked almost a year and kaput.

I want to buy an another laptop HP Pavilion 9700 on eBay. Those without a hard disk, the boot up to bios, range from $200 or less. The hard drive in my old laptop works in any series HP Pavilion 9700? If this isn't an idea where I could find information about compatibility?

    Thank you!

As long as it is the same family of i.e. AMD or Intel processor, you will be OK. You may need to load a driver or two, but the hard drive of an AMD dv9700 will start in any other dv9700 AMD. It is not quite as sensitive as suggested above, but otherwise, the story would be that if you tried to put it in an Intel system or even a more recent or more old AMD system the essential thing which must be the same is the main chipset on the motherboard.

For completeness I want to clarify that in doing so technically violates the Microsoft EULA. Your OEM for Windows license is specific to the machine, with which it was delivered.

  • ThinkPad z60m hard drive upgrade

Hi all I have a thinkpad z60m I bought for a price very low. When I bought the laptop, it has been configured with processor 1.73GHz PM, 256 MB RAM and 40 GB HDD. I've already updated the memory to 2 GB to speed it up and it works well but I am now running out of space, and I want to switch the hard disk. Does anyone know the maximum capacity that can handle this laptop? It says in the manual that it can handle a maximum of 100 GB hard drive. But I came across this site Web offers a 160 GB HDD at 7200 RPM which is supposed to work with z60t z60m and t60 thinkpad. I cannot more than 100 GB for the main hard drive? Anyone here has tried to install a larger than 100 GB HDD main to a z60m? It work? I know I have a lot of questions, but I hope that someone could help me. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum!

You can install a HARD drive larger than 100 GB to your machine, no problem. The reason why you see a limit of 100 GB in release documents is the fact that it was available at the time the largest HARD drive...

    I hope this helps.

  • Help with old Presario 900 series hard drive capacity

I have an old Presario P904RSA130X520WC51E.  I bought new at Radio Shack and they told me it is huge 20G drive could be upgraded to a huge 40G. Couln t afford then. Since the death of my hard drie, I want to replace it with the more economical upgrade... I really want to give a 20G in there and I can't afford a new laptop of course.  Nobody knows what can manage this motherboard?

I'm already burned for $48.00 off Amazon because I did not know that the Dell 40 G (a Fujitsi MHV2040AH) came with a spade connector and my Compaq uses the connector IDC 44 (or all new generation records they use this connector?).  I have been informed that any reader of IDC PATA 2.5 G 40 44 pin will work... or is this lesson one another waiting to happen?

Would be grateful for any help available.

    Thank you

You should be able to use any detail 2.5 inch PATA/IDE hard drive. Is the "shovel" removable? Usually, they are if you pull straight out.

  • Problem by acknowledging an instrument in series with a USB adapter in NIMax

    Hi Forum,

I have an instrument designed to be controlled via a signal with a RS232 cable series and I try to get NIMax to recognize and send test orders.  My laptop (running Windows 7 Enterprise) has no serial port so I use a USB adapter to connect.  When I could not initially the device appears, I searched online and find suggestions that I should install the NI-VISA driver.  I downloaded and installed, but it does not help - to open VISA test panels is greyed out and it indicates that the unit is 'away' even when it is plugged.  When I open the control panel interactive of VISA directly, the device appears as a question mark, and if I double click top, it says the following:

    Error opening resource:
    ASRL10::INSTR

VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF0011) insufficient location information or the device or resource is not present in the system.

Any thoughts on how I can get my PC to communicate with the device?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that I needed to install a driver for this.  Do you know if a general device like this driver will work.

You need to install some drivers Windows are necessary for your USB-serial adapter (should have with the adapter).  Once Windows detects the serial port will be MAX.
