ThinkPad T550 and VBOX = nogo

* Cross-posted on the forum of Virtualbox too *.

Hi all

have just taken out of service with my trusty X 230 and installed the SSD in a Thinkpad T550 (I7 5600U). In the X 230, everything worked as it was supposed to with this config - 8 Debian, Kernel 3.19.3 and Vbox 4.3.26. 16 GB of memory and hard drive SSD overall.

When I try to transfer the above configuration to the T550 (kernel compile in the period of transition also) all I get is panic the kernel. I tried with another guest of OS (Linux Mint) under VB to rule out the possibility that doze 8.1 could be the culprit, no joy. Start VB on the new box and lights out. Given that the T550 is executed on a different generation of the Intel compared to the X 230 (Broadwell vs Ivy Bridge).

Once the kernel has re - compile on the new box, DKMS is obviously something.

The most popular ideas.

Kind regards

I'm at a loss to understand your question.

A workarounf/workaround has been found-

The nosmap parameter in grub.cfg online "/vmlinuz - linux... "will avoid the lights go out at the start of the VB.

  • Error 2101: ThinkPad T430 and Nocti OCZ 120 GB

    Hello

After about a month of use, I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive error detection on hdd2 (sata mini)". Simply by browsing the internet system hung up and after the reboot, that the error appeared.

I read that people here had same error just after the Assembly of their SSD - mine has worked for a few weeks.

The problem appeared shortly after the auto BIOS update but not right after flash. 2 or 3 reboots went smoothly.

Strange, it is now my BIOS version 1.16 when crashes version 1.17 - on the web since last Wednesday the update went Saturday.

Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (laptop and SSD) to RMA?

I already have RMA to OCZ ticket but want to save time and do not want to lose the data.

Besides I don't know if this isn't the BIOS: Lenovo's new.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Okay, this Monday, I had Nocti replaced by OCZ and it works great - now

So it was no fault of Thinkpad.

  • Recommended solution for Thinkpad Tablet and VGA projectors?

I ordered a Thinkpad Tablet hoping to use it for a teaching tool, but I face a common problem: most classrooms (and indeed, most conference rooms for business) are projectors VGA.

I know there are a variety of converters HDMI / VGA (using Active electronic components, of course), but I was wondering if Lenovo recommends a solution or if anyone has first-hand experience (perhaps with the Ideapad tablet, or perhaps with a review of the Thinkpad Tablet model) connect to a VGA projector.

An extra (a little more specific question), it's the mini-HDMI output provides power to work something like the HP-HDMI-VGA connector. If not, are there drivers to support a USB output device / VGA (which are available for Windows, but uncommon on Android).

Thanks in advance for comments or suggestions!

The HP adapter works without external power supply with a warning: the output resolution is the native resolution of the Tablet, which seems to cause distortions on 4:3 monitors and slight overscan issues at least a part is watching 16:9. For my purposes (conferences mathy things), it seems it will work fine, although I will take a piece of chalk tomorrow just in case.

  • model 2009 ThinkPad SL300 and system/software issues

Nice place, have you all here... I found through a Google search.

I just bought a ThinkPad SL300 under XP Pro opportunity.  It is a unit of work/Office who has been assigned to a guy who later decided that he wanted a Mac for a short period.  After that, he was sitting on the shelf in a closet of equipment for nearly a year.  Generally, I think that the Lenova is correct but it doesn't have many questions.

First of all, the guy who put it in place user names in his name, and one on behalf of her child.  I was able to remove these names of users through the Control Panel, but when I look at the tree DOS systems using a right click / Explore everything I still see them.  And I'm unable to edit or delete user names.  And when I try to change them I get a message from file system.  So it appears their usernames are integrated in the system tree somewhow BACK.

Then my own name appears on the login screen and if I'm using the control panel and administrative tools, but when I right click and see all my name does not appear in the tree.  Strange.

Software: when I installed my software of MS Office 2003 installed and runs, but under the name of the child - even if I went into the admin tools and changed this user name.  And when I click on help / about it shows such software that saved the child.

My first question: How can I change the name in the tree of the system (C:\)?

Then, the Office 2003 software seems to have installed fine. Word, Excel, MS Office Outlook all load and run.  I guess that I don't care if he says Jethro Bodine as long as it works...

Finally, about MS Office Outlook, when I've quand j' ai importe imported my contacts they load in the Contacts folder and the list appears when I click on Contacts.

However, when I click on New to create a new message, and then click to select a recipient, the selection window opens and is empty - not a contact to be seen.

Where the contacts? I suspect it's a matter of file location in the perspective to implement, but I can't find it and correct using the options.

An overview of these issues will be appreciated.  If it comes to push and push, I guess I could just reformat the HD and start over.  If it becomes necessary, I want to do before I'm too invested in the system.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rick

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Shut down your system, turn it on and press the blue button in the upper left when the thinkpad logo appears, follow this guide step 5 thereafter:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70803

The whole process is pretty self-explanatory. This will again put your SL to factory State, but it will work only if the hidden recovery partition is always kept on the computer by the owner previous, also bare in mind that everything will be removed from the system during the recovery process.

    It will be useful.

  • Background images in HBoxes and VBoxes

I have built a page in mxml, and would include a background images for the components of some of the mx:HBox and mx:VBox elements that I use. Looking around online, it seems that a property "backgroundImage" would be what I would need to set however I keep getting errors that no property exists. Is this something that has changed in Flex 4 or am I missing something?

    Thanks for any help.

To create a background for a HBox, you could do something like this:

  • Problem of layout with HBox and VBox

I want to create a login screen which is always centered on the screen. In the login screen I want two text fields must be aligned vertically and two corresponding text input fields must be aligned vertically. I can't understand the correct use of VBox and HBox to achieve my goal. Is there a simple way to think about it - must - I use something other than VBox and HBox? The code below is partially correct, but the text input areas are not aligned vertically.

    <? XML version = "1.0" encoding = "utf-8"? >
    "" < mx:Application xmlns:mx = ' http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml '
    Layout = "vertical".
    verticalAlign = "middle" >
    < mx:VBox >
    < mx:HBox >
    < mx:Label text = "Username" / >
    < mx:TextInput text = "test text" / >
    < / mx:HBox >
    < mx:HBox >
    < mx:Label text = "Insert here the password" / >
    < mx:TextInput text = "password" / >
    < / mx:HBox >
    < / mx:VBox >
    < / mx:Application >

I think you want a form to do this:

  • ThinkPad T431s and graphics drivers

    Hello

I am currently using a Thinkpad T431s, which uses the graphics card Intel HD Graphics 4000. As it appears, Lenovo comes with its own drivers for this graphics card, but the last one they released was in March 2013. Meanwhile, Intel has made one may 2015. When I go to install the driver, there is a warning saying that it is not compatible.

I tried to get Overwatch to work, many people have said that the 4000 Intel HD Graphics card is good enough, as long as you have the drivers latest. However, using the Lenovo drivers as soon as 2013, I'm just constantly crashing. My computer more than exceeds the minimum requirements in the case. Someone know if we can just go ahead with the latest drivers, or would it be better to just stick with out-of-date Lenovo drivers?

    Thanks in advance

You can install the latest drivers from www.intel.com. After this check if everything works, especially change of brightness of the screen.

  • My thinkpad W520 and my ssd (Crucial M4 128)

Hello people. I read the thread entitled W520 and various issues of ssd. In fact, it was a relief for me to read after all the trouble I had try my M4 running successfully in my W520.

When I first installed the M4, it wouldn't let me install windows. I tried many things and almost come to the conclusion that the drive itself is bad because he called me all kinds of problems. That opinion changed when I tried my M4 in other machines. It all worked perfectly. Then, I thought: * beep *? Would it be the laptop? When I came across the wire, that I mentioned above, I knew I wasn't alone and knew that it was actually a compatibility issue.

However, I was reading comments the other day on the W520, and many critics included ssd in their tests and reported good results. There was no mention of any problem of ssd. I also noticed in many forums that some users take advantage of their W520 strengthened by the performance of the ssd.

So, it's like a situation of chance/unlcuky? Some w520 will work with ssd and some won't be fair?

There is only one thing that I haven't tried yet. Try the M4 in the my W520 with its latest firmware update (0009)... better suddenly you think?

And where is all this lenovo?

    Thank you.

Just for you guys do know. He has WORKED with the latest firmware.

Now, I write my W520 with the Crucial installed M4.

    Thanks for everyone.

  • ThinkPad T61 and some of its minor problems?

I just bought a T61 and it's an awesome machine! But I have a few problems which I can't resolve:

    1) cannot send a fax. said 'No dial tone' then 'no response' (which is not true that the number is a public whenever consecutive fax number).

    2) impossible to achieve and to print to a network printer. said "the print spooler service does not work!

Impossible to recharge my SKYPE account. (3) says payment "failed" without giving any reason valid and well that I tried to use my Visa, my Mastercard, my bank account number. 14 tent and all in vain!

I suspect something is interfering in my computer, rather than anything else. I can help anyone? I would very much because I am lost and don't know what to do! TKS.

Resolve software configuration issues is not easy sometimes, even if I was sitting in front of your computer. In addition, while it was under warranty and sent it with a software problem, they would simply recreate the image on your hard drive, they would not in fact difficulty of the corrupted files, or bad configuration settings. Retail repair shops even most don't make it so much easier to reload everything.

If you want to track it down, then it will require a lot of learning. I suggested to do a factory reset because you said that you just got this laptop, and do the reset should clear errors of software, so everything that doesn't work would probably material.

I would consider to do, you can always reinstall your programs, and as it is now, you don't know what has been done for her in the past that has caused all this.

With respect to the printer, I still think that it is only a matter of installing it, and I think that the problem of sype is not related to your computer at all, perhaps a technical problem on their end, but I could be wrong.
