Hi, I have one capsule 2 TB which has deleted the computer of my wife up and replaced back with 2 new fragmented files (one for my old macbook and one for my new macbook... Save to my wife but is no longer there).  Can anyone help on how to restore a deleted file sparse?

    Thank you

    J

    Almost impossible.

The time Capsule has not deleted the backup... Only from time Machine can do without you open the disk in the Finder and deleted manually. TM can delete the backups for all sorts of reasons, but the most common is corruption. The backup failed a check and were found damaged beyond the point of usefulness.

If you have opened the disk in the Finder and the sparsebundle TM went then restore could only be made by removing disk using undelete software as rescue diskwarrior or data... because it would break and the CT also any warranty, and extremely unlikely that work as used space is probably now assigned to the new macbook sparsebundle... I would not bother.

Start a new backup after making sure the TC has enough space for 3 computers.

  • Why didn't I go and turn my Airport Time Capsule to be able to backup?

    Hello.

Why didn't I go and turn my Airport Time Capsule to be able to backup? It has been like this from day one. At the point where I keep my iMac off for a few days, my Time Capsule airport must be enabled and the new in order to save. Any suggestions?

    Hello Ladro Maltese,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If I understand your message when you shut down your iMac a few days and then go back on you have to turn off your Time Capsule, then on again as well. I know how it is important for you to be able to have your Time Capsule works well. The first step that I recommend is to make sure that your Time Capsule firmware is up to date.

This article includes information about how to manually and automatically check updates the firmware for your Time Capsule:

Keep your base station to day.

After updating the firmware see if the problem persists.

  • Questions of Time Capsule, I have to rename my sparsebundle?

I recently started having problems with my Airport with Time Capsule, and after doing a bunch of other updates of my system, I wonder if the name of my sparsebundle could ask questions.  A bit of history behind what I have made, please bear with me while I explain all of this.

I bought my Airport with Time Capsule in November 2014 and it had worked well until February of this year.  We have changed our internet service provider, and the day that we did this, I had to unplugging everything on my desk to reorganize things.  I plugged everything in, my wifi was working fine, and I never had a problem with my Time Capsule, so I don't even think to check it out.  But then I got an alert one day say that my machine has not been saved in 12 days.  I tried to do a backup at this time, but it got stuck in the phase of "Looking for backup drive.  By trial and error, I found if I power cycle my Airport, I can get to find the reader and to make the backup, but it seems to be a temporary solution.  After a day or two or sometimes later that day after that the computer was put to sleep and woke up to the top, he would come back in the phase of 'Search'... ».

I did some research online, but most of the post I found is from 2008, 2012, etc., which concerned me the info might be exceeded.  At this point, I prefer not to erase my Time Capsule and start over, so I'll try different things to see if I can solve the problem before having the extreme path again.  I ran the utility disk on the sparsebundle several times. The first time that I ran it on the iMac, there was an error, but the second time I ran it, all seemed well.  And I get this error when I backup my iMac and my MacBookPro. Both are set to save in the same time Capsule and it seems to be a problem with real time Capsule machines.

I've done a lot of research and one of the things I found was that it might be my computer name causing some problems.  My computers have been appointed 'IMac of Lauriena' and ' Lauriena LastName MacBook Pro"(do not put my name in the post, but it's the same number of characters).  I've read since they have spaces and even the quotes could be causing the issues, so I changed the name of the two computers. I have them shortened to "Reenas_iMac" and "Reenas_MacBookPro" (although now I'm wondering if I should get rid of both the underscore character).  I also renamed "Lauriena airport Time Capsule" Time Capsule to "ReenasAirPortTimeCapsule".  After that I renamed the time Capsule, I made sure to enter Time Machine and reselect the drive to use for the backup, because he was looking for that on "Time Capsule of Lauriena airport.

One of the things I had read was that if you changed the name of your computer, the next time that you have made a backup it would take more time to save and it would also change the name of the sparsebundle to match the computer name.  I wanted to do, since my name sparsebundle imitated my computer before names, which means there are spaces and apostrophes in names.  But to my surprise, the name has not changed. Backups lasted longer than I expected based on what I had read, but the names have remained the same.

Until today, even with put the computer to sleep all night, the automatic backups seem to work, but I fear the name of the sparsebundle can turn against me. At this point, I'm doing everything I can to avoid future problems, and I hope I do not have to erase my sparsebundles and start over, if possible.  Especially because I get nervous at the idea of not having a backup, even if it's just for a short period of time. If it turns out that I have to do this, I'll do it, but I wanted to see if I had other options.

So my main question becomes, would the name of my sparsebundle potentially ask questions, and if so, is there a way to change this without remove it and start again?  If it helps, I use an iMac Mid and a MacBookPro 2011 Early 2011, both El Capitan 10.11.2 running. Currently, my sparsebundle names "Of Lauriena LastName MacBook Pro.sparsebundle" and "Lauriena iMac.sparsebundle".

I'm not loving the idea of change the sparsebundle names...

I welcome your change of name... I think that this translates into better reliability of network... but the fact is Time Machine is a little tricky beastie and unfortunately to know when it's messed up is often to the point that you want to use.

My recommend is exactly what you don't want to.

I'm doing everything I can to avoid future problems, and I hope I do not have to erase my sparsebundles and start over, if possible.

Because of mutual exclusivity to avoid future problems... and starting over. Your desire is to have your cake and eat it, but one or the other will give way.

If you want to keep your existing backups... make an archive of airport utility to a correctly formatted disk. Just keep it 3-6 months to accumulate enough history you probably never need.

Then do a quick erase of the TC and start over. Backups can be done much faster using ethernet... one at a time... and there is no time you will be missing a backup.

One of the things I had read was that if you changed the name of your computer, the next time that you have made a backup it would take more time to save and it would also change the name of the sparsebundle to match the computer name.

Just to explain this... The first part is just... a backup should take a long time because it checks the files...

The second part is not correct... TM cannot change the name of the sparsebundle to match the name... What I expected it to do in most cases, is start a new backup. Often, it's there for that... I tested it and found that it has begun a new backup... but by design, TM does NOT use the name of the computer... It is related to the UUID of the disc.

    http://pondini.org/TM/works.html

Read great Pondini KB if you want to better understand.

IMHO, if it's using the existing backup... then the change of name of the computer was not relevant... and backups should go... but my confidence in TM is reduced.

Since you seem concerned to have good backups... Let me suggest a dual approach. Keep running TM as you are... It does a good job of incremental backups.

But download Carbon Copy clone (it of about $40 and covers multiple computers in your household). You can trial for a month to see if you really like it. Create a clone bootable on USB plugged into your computer, you need to separate those for computers... but it doesn't have to be a small disc auto powered of the same capacity as the startup disk. (or larger than files with a little space) for units 1 to are fine, unless that is your Mac has Monster drives.

Then the trial a boot from the clone... Hold down the option key when the computer is booting and select the USB drive... and you know after a few minutes you have a completely viable functional backup. All your files will be there and everything work exactly as before... because he is a true clone.

  • Time capsule and errors to restore backups

I'm trying to restore different backups of 2 macbooks by using the migration wizard and finder, but I do get rather a warning message that the disk image could not be opened because there is no file system mountable or that the operation has been exceeded.

Otherwise, when I try to backup using time machine on the space remaining (1 TB) disk 2 TB of the time capsule, I repeatedly get the message that: "' Time Machine has conducted an audit of the backups on 'Time Capsule'." To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup"' when I click on"start new Backup ".

Any chance to access and retrieve the data stored on this disk?

    Thank you.

Once a backup Time Machine is corrupted, it is extremely difficult to recover. If you click on this message... TM will delete the existing backup and start over.

What model is the TC you use? Is it Gen4 or earlier... That is to say a flat one. If this is the case, you can remove the hard drive and put it in a door - and maybe access backup directly from the computer. If it's a Gen5... tall, then you will a lot more difficult. The hard drive is not easy to get out and it is very easy to damage the cable that connects the drive of TC in the plate.

    See https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule

You can always try to recover from the Finder. How successful will be depends entirely on suite corrupt how backups are.

Someone has worked hard to extract their data and published some useful information that I kept at hand.

Difficulty corrupted backup TM. Re: backup Time Machine stalls after upgrade of El Capitan

    (1) disable Time Machine.

    (2) judgment of all index Spotlight (mdutil d - a).

    (3) destroy all Spotlight indexes (rm - rf /.) Spotlight - V100) manually.

    (4) fix a problem of permission of system files with Spotlight (removed a bunch of files belonged to a non-existent user in a subfolder/private/var/folders Spotlight created). No idea how they got there, but they were there, and newspapers are complaining about them causing a fatal error.

    (5) index Spotlight the reactivation and let them build entirely.

    (6) re - run a backup Time Machine original.

Unfortunately at the time where you get the message about corrupt backups, it is too late...

It will be a bigger and bigger problem... and I'm encouraging people to rely not on TM of the way in which they may have had in the past. I use a secondary backup to TM system... Carbon Copy clone... CCC, which performs a backup much more simple... a direct clone... It is much less likely to be corrupt and can be instantly tested by booting from the clone (using USB) external to it.

  • Time capsule will not recognize the backup from another mac

Time machine will not recognize the backup from another mac

Time Machine will never find "another" Mac backups unless you've been backup that 'different' Mac on the same Capsule you have there.

So, we need more information and to try to understand what it is that you are trying to accomplish. Please assume that we know nothing about what you could have done in the past... (since we don't have).

  • ICan I use Time Capsule in my Airport extreme to save files Ihave on my windows7 computer?

How can I configure my Airport extreme, time capsule 3 to use the portion of the time capsule for the backup of my Sony VAIO computer?

You can back up a windows computer to Time Capsule but I do not recommend.

Any backup software that can use target network should work.

Macrium Reflect is the one I use, I know the Time Capsule works.

Time line of engineering is a concept similar to Time Machine for PC... It's more that I want to make, but it doesn't seem to be a free version... How good or bad or I do not know what limits.

Internal backup software MS is generally useless... at least up to win 8.1 10.

NOTE... A USB connected to the laptop computer and formatted NTFS native is far superior to backup to TC which is formatted HFS + (illegible for windows) which is networked that the SMB protocol and treaded as NT server with all its limitations with FAT32.

  • New Time Capsule ranging from Windows to Mac with file sharing.

OK, so we bought a new time capsule recently and my family migrates slowly over Apple products.

My question comes from having moved all our old saved files from various sources during the share of time capsule. Currently, the file system is FAT32 because that's what it was by default and I don't see an option to adjust it.

"My wife has a time machine backup works fine already on the device, but when she opens the 'data' /: Time Capsule" on the Mac, we don't see any of these files that I put in there. What should we do, she can be seen on Mac.

What OS is the Mac running?

Can you please show me what you can see on the Mac... because the screenshot of Windows with all the deleted folder names is not helpful at all.

I assume you can open all windows files... did you create the folder in windows?

Let me suggest that you create the folder in the Mac. then copy the files through him, to the windows machine.

Apple uses file permissions, and permissions have become significantly more restrictive of the end. Windows seems to ignore... but you might need repair permissions until it works.

NOTE... the appearance of the windows FAT32 is not real... It's because of the way windows reads the network of the TC function... the drive is not formatted FAT32 in the TC... It is HFS +, a Mac format... offered by SMB (windows network blocks) which windows reads with FAT32.

  • How can I find missing backups time capsule?

Installation of El Capitan in September caused my incoming mail to stop after a certain point, although he showed millions of so-called items waiting to be downloaded. After many attempts of troubleshooting, I went with my last resort for fitness and do a clean install of El Capitan.

When I went to my Time Capsule to restore my documents and applications showed none of my previous backups using the Star Wars. There are available dates in the timeline view, and the time Capsule shows my oldest as backup being December 1, 2015 after I ran the backup check, but I don't see anything beyond yesterday.

Backups must be present on the Time Capsule, because it shows "tuberculosis 1.14 2 TB available." My sparsebundle (only 13.2 MB) indicated no mountable file system when I double click on it. It also has . tmp.sparsebundle as the extension. There is no other sparsebundle showing.

I was looking for answers online and this forum and have yet to find a resolution. My first care in disk utility failed after a few hours, then immediately when I tried again. Any suggestions? Is it useful to fitness again? I did not choose the time Capsule to restore initially. I wanted to see if the mail would work before putting the time restore everything.

Time Machine, please press the shift-command-C key combination. The windshield will show the mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and search for files to restore.

If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user library folder, first select a snapshot, and then press shift-command-G. A go to the folder dialog box opens. In this document, you enter the path to the folder. The dialog box will help you by automatically filling parts of the path when you start typing.

The path starts with the slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts is separated by slashes.

The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a '2', and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right arrow key to access the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next game.

Next is the volume name (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you assigned a different name.) Start typing, then jump to the end and enter a slash.

The next part is 'Users', followed by a slash.

Then is your short user name. It is also the name of your home folder, which is represented by an icon of the House in the sidebar of a Finder window.

Finally, enter "Library", and then press return. You should now be in the library folder. From there, you can move like in the Finder. You can also select another snapshot of the same folder.

  • Time capsule backup dedicated

I'll put up a new Mac Pro and want to use Time Capsule as a wired dedicated backup device.  On my Mac, I have a 1 TB internal drive will be used only for the application and software work areas.  I have a 4 TB external drive, where all my user files reside.  I want to hardwire connect Time Capsule to my Mac and use it only to back up the drive internal.  I have a separate drive of 8 TB I'll use a program like ChronoSync to back up my drive of the 4 TB user.  I use one of the Ethernet ports on my Mac to connect to my home network.  I have an Ethernet port open on my Mac.  Can I use the Ethernet Mac port available and connect Time Capsule for the Mac as a dedicated backup device?

The Capsule connects to your modem or modem router using a wired Ethernet cable connection. Connect the modem into the "O" on the Time Capsule WAN port and configure time Capsule to create a wireless network.

If you don't need wireless, it can be turned off once the time Capsule has been implemented to work with your modem or router/modem.

Your Mac can then go back to Ethernet connection time Capsule cable from the Mac to one of the three ports LAN <>- on the back of the time Capsule.  Don't forget to turn off the radio on the Mac to make sure that the backup will take place via the Ethernet connection.

  • should my time capsule be connected with a cable for backups, after the initial installation?

should my time capsule be connected with a cable for backups, after the initial installation?

If you mean that you have to keep your Mac connected to a Time Capsule via Ethernet for future backups, then the answer is no. Time Machine and time Capsule are designed to work over wireless for your Mac would just need to be connected to the wireless network provided by the time Capsule.

  • To transfer the old backups Time Machine from a hard disk external to the airport in Time Capsule

Is it possible to transfer the old Time Machine backups from my external hard drive to Time Capsule airport?

Having done this in the past, I can say that it is possilble... but is not anywhere near the amount of time and effort it will take to do this.

Even when I was successful, Time Machine has started a new backup of the Mac... it has not added on the old existing backups, so I lost a good part of the backup on the Time Capsule space.

This will be easier if you keep just on the hard drive for a few months... in case you need to go back and pick up a file... While the time Capsule built a new story backups tons.  After 3 to 6 months, you will not need the old backups, and you can erase the disc and use it as a spare part.

If you want to try it anyway... see this article: http://pondini.org/TM/18.html

  • How does the Time Capsule?

I'm looking into buying time Capsule Airpot but I have a few questions and hoping someone can help! I'm basically looking for a way to back up my MacBook Pro and replace my crappy router in the thought process was a good deal... However what I was asking, that's exactly how the backup works? It's like an external hard drive where my information will sit until the end of time? Or will they finally deleted? Like say I backup all my pictures and then remove them from my MacBook... They are never saved on the time Capsule airport or eventually be deleted?

I suggest a visit to Time Machine FAQ of Pondini for more information about Time Machine. Time Machine performs a type of backup archives where the old files can be deleted and replaced by new ones. Time Machine backup on a disk in the time Capsule.

TM only deletes older files if they have been removed from the source and when TM needs space on the backup to a new incremental backup drive. Time Machine "Jules Destrooper" its backups. over 24 hours, old backups, except the first of the day; These "dailies", old more 30-day backups, except the first day of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there is room.

So, how long a backup rest file depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming that you do at least one backup per day. If she was there for less than 24 hours, it will be maintained for at least a month. If she was there at least a week, it will be maintained as long as there is room.

Note that, on a Time Capsule, the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but not descended. View of the user of the TC so it seems that no space was released, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.

Once TM has found that it cannot free enough space for new backup it reports the disk is full. You can erase the backup disk and start your backup or replace the disc with a larger drive.

  • drive external hard connected via usb hub powered Time Capsule guard fall...

    Hello.

Try using a player external 3.5 "connected via USB hub powered to my Time Capsule to serve as a backup Time Machine secondary.

When I connect the external hard drive, it turns out, and everything seems good (Yes it is correctly formatted). I see the external hard drive in my time machine preferences panel and also the desktop browser window, etc..

After selecting the drive hard as the second backup TM, I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies. Audit of airport utility, the drive no longer appears in the profile of Time Capsule. I can't turn back the drive without unplugging / plugging the USB cord. I went to HD (WD green 4to) and HGST 4to - deleted both.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)? Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls? Something else?

Just seems like something somewhere that expire, causing it to drop the connection...

Thanks for your useful suggestions to fix this!

Is your TC the Gen5, model AC?

I must say that your experience is not uncommon. I tested it myself recently and was disappointed in how the poor reliability has been... Although not as bad as yours... in fact cutting in a few minutes to start a backup is ridiculous.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)?

Quality of the envelope varies a lot... What is it??

If this is the typical brand X... Plug it into your Mac. is it reliable?

Go to your control panel and dig up the actual USB chip used... I don't know if we can help on type a lot. But it helps us determine the fleas are a problem.

I found the hard drive in the finder to mount helped... not the sparsebundle that must be mounted by Time Machine... but the disk must be mounted in the finder so that you can copy files back to him.

I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies.

Check in the finder, it has created the sparsebundle and works.

Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls?

It's our usual recommendation... but he won't always help... especially if the USB hub is another brand X...

Note that all societies are changing USB tokens at the drop of a hat... some seller of a rival company arrives and offers them 1 c off the coast of 1 million chips it is common to spend even in the middle of a race. Even the tenors have no satisfactory fixed hardware...

The computer has loads of memory... and may contain drivers for hundreds of different USB tokens... but the TC is a very limited amount of space and with questions if the driver is not fair.

I started a thread for a database just now... has not progressed much.
