Time Machine could not complete the backup-backup drive is not found

I get a message...

"Time machine could not complete the backup to Time Capsule

I have not had this problem before, it's all connected...

If you have not already made a comprehensive network feeding cycle, it would be a good basic troubleshooting step.

To turn off some appliances, you actually pull the plug on the appliance.

Turn off all devices on your network, computers, routers, modem, printers, mobile devices, etc... in any order you want

Wait a minute

Turn on the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself

Switch on the device connected to a modem and let run for a minute

Keep turn on devices one at a time about a minute apart, until the entire network is back

Try a backup

Running OS 10.11.3 on my early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, use Time Machine to back up to my Airport 802.11ac purchased 16/09/2014:

I can see the airport and the data file in my network.

I immediately did a full time Machine backup on a USB key and it disconnected from my system.

I unplugged the airport, let it rest for a minute and returned the power plug, let it settle for a green light.  I'm restarting Time Machine backup to the airport.

I need to replace the airport?  The appliance starts to fail?  Or, it is more likely is a problem with winter static electricity that has damaged the image and reconstruction will fix all this.  Reconstruction will take about four hours with no guarantee that it will work.

  • Can I partition my drive Time Machine to back up the other 2 drives?

Is it possible to partition a hard drive and use it with Time Machine to back up the other 2 drives?

Example: I want to save internal drive of my iMac and my external storage drive, and I wonder if I can partition a hard drive for use with Time Machine, in order to safeguard my internal drive on one partition and the external drive to another partition. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, if it's not a time Capsule, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would use readers separated for each device you want to back up. If you put all one hard drive and this player goes down, then you have lost all your backups. With separate if backup fails a drive you will always have backups remaining intact.

  • Time Machine wants to finish the backup

I recently had a repair on my MacBook Pro.  They replaced the Logic Board 2.5 GHz.  Time Machine now wants to do a full backup instead of only since my last backup.  Should I just let a backup completes or is there a way to backup only since the last of them?  Will allowing him to make a full backup take too much space on my external hard drive?  The drive is fairly new and I know that there is enough space (for now.)  Apple advice for troubleshooting time Machine said to call the repair center, but I thought someone here might be able to help.  Thank you.

This is quite normal. Time Machine it's an another computer because the new logic board. So, you have to make a new backup. If you have no space on the backup drive, then erase the disc first.

  • my time machine just to complete a backup, but it is not listed?

I have three macs backed up on a time machine. The mac, I want to migrate was on the list, but I made a new backup to get the latest version. Now that it's over, it is not on the news on the time machine. No idea where it went? It drives me crazy.

    Your question is unclear.

I have three macs backed up on a time machine.

You mean a Time Capsule? They are backed up by Time Machine on every Mac.

The mac, I want to migrate was on the list, but I made a new backup to get the latest version.

Mac that you want to migrate from appeared in the Finder with a sparsebundle? It's still there... Have you opened it manually and check the dates?

Now that it's over, it is not on the news on the time machine

Sorry now it gets too complicated... did you really mean Time Machine here?

If the Time Machine works normally... hourly backup you would not need to do anything special, so I'm lost exactly what you're doing different.

No idea where it went? It drives me crazy.

Me too.. I don't know where he's been... because I don't know what that means, or it you are talking about.

Missing the sparsebundle to the backup?

It is simply not enough the last backup date?

Backup details will be in the paper... you can go through it and find out what happened.

If you are migrating to a new computer before get rid you of this computer... Just use migration between the method of computers... not the method of TM. Transfer works very well... better even... If you connect two computers together through ethernet (love at first sight would be fantabulous)... and transfer on the standard gigabit network. If your method of backup fails for some reason any.

But there are as many reasons for the failure of TM is not easy to understand.

Use a work around if it is important to do this via the backup instead of direct.

for example... a USB plug into the computer and use it as the target for backup... TM has done well above the local level as network drives.

You can also create a clone bootable disk USB using Carbon Copy Cloner who is free to use for one month.

  • Why Time Machine will not erase old backups when it needs more space for a new backup?

I have problems with Time Machine.  I am running on an iMac (21.5 inch, end 2012) with a processor Intel Core i7 3.1 GHz and 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory.  My OS is El Capitan, 10.11.3 version (15 d 21).

Since a few days I received the following Time machine error message:

Time Machine could not complete the backup "IoSafe.

  • Backup failed with error 18: the backup drive is not found

    Hello

My guard time capsule saying "Backup failed" for a few days and I cannot access the old backup files either (when I enter my time machine it shows 'today', which is kind of scary, although I know that my old files is still there). I tried many ways to trouble shoot this problem, but none of this has worked. In my opinion, it's more a network problem and I made sure I connect Wi - Fi even my time capsule created.

    So far I have tried:

-Delete the files from my internet (com.apple.airport.preferences.plist; preferences.plist and NetworkInterfaces.plist, etc.) and restart my mac

-Remove TimeMachine.plist and restart my mac

-Hard reset of my time capsule. Went through all configurations with success but then still backup missed (I hear the running time capsule when it is by train).

I share this time capsule with my wife and she has no problem with that.

I can only think of a possible alternation I did which could cause this problem.

Because of unstable WiFi problem, I had deleted

    com Apple.Airport.Preferences.plist

    com.Apple.Network.identification.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    Preferences.plist

or other files and reboot my mac * before * I had this problem with time capsule.

However, this is not the first time I do it, and it wasn't a problem before...

This could be the reason? If so, how to restore the network settings?

Please help me with this problem. Really appreciate!

    Ted

Try to force the connection to 2.4 ghz using different names for the various bands... or even better to use ethernet.

Time Machine won't complete a backup of 900 GB on my mid-2012 Mac Book Pro with 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of disk. the OS is 10.11.2. The external drive is USB - 3 5 to Seagate and there is nothing else on the disk.

24-hour backup. For the last three hours, I've seen 35 minutes remaining; There seems to be no progress. What could be wrong?

Run the Console application - it's in your Utilities folder. You can find it by selecting utilities in the Finder go menu.

If the list of newspapers on the left column is not already displayed, view journal list by selecting view list of newspapers on display menu of the Console. Select Show toolbar if it is not already displayed.

Locate system.log in the list, and then select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you need to find the relevant entries to your Mac problem.

Do that type backupd in the field of filter of the Console.

One or more of these log entries may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.

Copy and Paste the log entries in a response. If hundreds of same repetitive messages appear, please change them before posting. There should be no need of several journal entries.

Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information that you consider personal as the name of your Mac. If you don't want the information to appear, delete or obscure when you post your answer. Leave enough information so that the Scriptures can be deciphered.

  • Time Machine, do not let me restore my emails that have been put on the archive before backup

    Hello

I have made a backup of my emails in Time Machine in August 2014 & wanted to restore to the current version of my Mac OS X 10.11, but unfortunately it is not let me recover those email, please help me how do.

Although you can restore a snapshot of Time Machine messages in the Mail application, it usually will not work with messages that were saved by an outdated version of the mail. In this case, you must use another method.

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

    ~/Library/Mail

Right-click or Ctrl-click on the highlighted line and select

    Services ▹ Open

the contextual menu.* should open a folder.

Enter Time Machine and scroll to the snapshot that you want to restore from. The folder named "Mail" are appointed "V2" and/or "V3" subfolders (depending on the version of Mac OS X that was used when the snapshot was taken.) Inside of one of these subfolders are several subfolders representing your e-mail accounts. The name refers to the email addresses that you use. Select the account folders you want and then select

    Restoration of the... to the...

in the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the Snapshot window. Restore the files on the desktop and not in their original location.

Import the mailbox in the folders that you restored to the office. The imported messages appear in a new mailbox. Move those you want to keep everywhere where you want and delete the rest. Then, delete the files on the desktop.

  • Backup Restore Time Machine does not see RAID external drive

    Hi all

I have a problem with my iMac restore from a Time Machine backup, and I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem already.

I had to reinstall OS X El Capitan from scratch, based on education, I received Support from Apple. That worked without problems and my iMac works fine. However, I wanted to restore it to how it was before, using Time Machine. I keep my backups on a LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2 and never had any problems with it.

To restore the system, I followed the instructions on the Support page. I restarted my system in recovery mode and selected the "restore from Time Machine backup". Unfortunately the LaCie 5big does not appear on the list of drives, so I'm stuck... When you use the system in normal mode, the external RAID is visible and Time Machine stores backups on it without any problem.

Any of you are familiar with this problem? I would be very grateful if you could help me with this problem!

    Kind regards

    Valerio

    Hello

-While the system is booted in recovery mode, confirm that the Lacie 5big network is visible in disk utility.   You will need to disconnect / reconnect the Thunderbolt cable to the Lacie 5big be detected.

-Once seen, a new attempt to restore from Time Machine backup.

    See you soon

  • Time Machine do not hourly backups on WD My Book for Mac new

My 1 TB time capsule was too small for the full backup so I just bought a 6 new to WD "My Book for Mac" and have now a new back up, but it won't backup time as usual. I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Can anyone who thinks that the reason for what I fear not having a reliable backup. The problem with the new hard drive external or is - a problem with EL Capitan?

    Hello Arnaud,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that Time Machine was not back up as expected. I certainly understand how it is important to be able to back up your content. I'm happy to help you.

There are several factors that could influence the automatic backup. Please follow the steps in the link below to fix this problem:

If you cannot back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

In addition to these measures, hourly backups could be affected by your sleep Macs and power Nap settings, depending on which Mac you use. To ensure that your hourly backups are finished, set your Mac sleep to a longer period time. For testing purposes, try to set the duration of sleep at least 1 hour. You can do this in system preferences > energy saver.

In addition, if you use a portable Mac, make sure that it is connected to power during the tests to see if hourly backups work. See the link below to view information on how Power Nap works and how it can affect Time Machine.

How Power Nap works on your Mac

Keep in mind, that Time Machine backs up only files that have changed since the last backup.

    Have an amazing day!

  • Backup Time Machine put on for the question of the judgment

I use time machine - mac pro to 2008 - 1 TB drive with its own power supply - 500 GB of backups.

Have had a few teething problems that don't seem to point to any problem-

Before stopping - if I just saved all the files - I always ask a time machine backup.

If I was just on the internet - I'm just asking for a backup...

Anyway I've asked immediately rather than wait a minute--but with problems at startup - decided to wait for the minute - about 15 seconds in the time-out has heard that the drive reports the time machine was starting a backup, so I canceled the stop & waited until the backup is complete.

So the question is if a time machine backup was cut by a stop - is there a point where it would cause problems with the next on power.

(I noticed that on a power which had a problem - time Annex machine backup was for the same time that commissioning - and I had stop watch at the same time I started up the next day)

Issues of time machine were related to my problems with Finder/Spotlight.

I put the drive time machine in the private domain of Spotlight.

A ran a disk check - no problem

Went into the preferences of time machine and instead of just turn on--changed the drive -.

    time machine turned on

forced a return to the top

Entered time machine - deleted the backups of an IPHOTO library which had damaged (had deleted from the hard drive)

  • Time Machine don't prune the old El Capitan backups and works out of space and "backup fails.

With the help of El Capitan 10.11.1, I noticed a change in behavior with the handling of the time Machine of large files, specifically the files of virtual disk VMWare Fusion (about 50 large concerts).  After a few weeks of use of fusion VM virtual machine, Time Machine gives an error where it ran out of space and "backup failed."

I had the same problem occur on a second iMac that I own.

I reformatted my external drive for Time Machine and started fresh, but after a few weeks, I got the same error again.  It seems that Time Machine is not the size or remove older backups of VMware virtual disk to provide a space for the new.

Previous versions of Mac OS X and Time Machine had no problem with the backup of large files such as these.

Has anyone else noticed "backup failed" message with Time Machine on El Capitan?  I know that I can exclude the disk virtual VMware backup, but that defeats the entire purpose of Time Machine backups.  Any suggestions?

Time Machine automatically deletes older snapshots to make room for the new. If your backup history is shorter than expected, it may be because you want to save one or more large files frequently.

Software virtualization VMware, Parallels or VirtualBox creates a large virtual disk container that is constantly evolving. It will not be saved at all while the virtual machine running, and at other times it must be saved each Time Machine performance. Who fills up quickly any backup destination.

You must exclude files from virtual drive of your Time Machine backups. To do this, click the Options button in the Time Machine preferences window. You can also do this to virtualization, application settings. Back up the files on the virtual disk within the comments system, using a native backup application.

A compromise solution is to create a 'snapshot' of the virtual machine in the virtualization software (not a Time Machine snapshot.) This will give you a single large file that never changes and only has to be saved once. All future changes will be stored in a file that is much smaller initially, but will grow over time. You must always exclude this backup TM file. If you need to restore the computer virtual of Time Machine, you will have a working configuration, which will be easy for you to restore the rest of the data in the system of comments.
