Time Machine doesn't detect Time Capsule

Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

Any suggestions?

We understand your current configuration of the network with the Time Capsule (TC). Is the TC the only router on your network? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have directly linked it by Ethernet?

Normally you use a wired connection or wireless between the iMac and the TC? This always was a problem or just started to happen? If she just started, have you changed any software/firmware on the iMac or TC?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

  • Restore from Time capsule, but new files on the target machine, won't be wiped out

I'm trying to move files between two MacBook, however, I have been using the new MacBook for a while (like a year) and a lot of files/images/person of the most recent data on it (dataset B for example).

So I recently did a full backup on my older MacBook (say A Dataset).  I wonder if I do a "restore" time capsule backup (data set A) against my new MacBook, the new dataset would B be destroyed?

My desired outcome is to have the dataset A + B all in my new MacBook.

DataSet B backup, restoration of A DataSet, then restore DataSetB.

Please, do not restore OS X from A DataSet.

  • Sierra Time Machine / Time Capsule problem

After installation of Sierra, I am unable to use Time Machine to a Time Capsule.

There was a MacBook Air with two bootable partitions. The partition Macintosh HD has a system of Yosemite and the score of 'second' was a partition of El Capitan, which was created by a clean install and then allow Migration Wizard copy on Macintosh HD, all accounts, settings, networks and other files. The two partitions have been saved by Time Machine to a Time Capsule. The Macintosh HD partition has been erased and Sierra has been installed on Macintosh HD and Migration Wizard was allowed to copy during the second all accounts, settings, networks, and other files.

Time machine has not worked since. It gets the error message 'no available backup drive.' However, using the Finder, I can get the time Capsule, open the sparsebundle and see all the individual backups. Because I had erased Macintosh HD, I went through the steps to http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html 'reconnect to my backups. Which made no difference (probably because Time Machine is not really see her driving the sparsebundle to the Time Capsule, even if the Finder does no harm to open it).

Then I tried to select again the Capsule as the backup drive. It asks for a password. I give the password and shortly after it comes up with the error message: 25299 Keychain error when creating a system keychain to the URL entry and the user name '< name >' "afp: / / < name > @2%20Tb%20Time%20Capsule._afpovertcp._tcp.local./Data.

(where < name > is the name of the logged-in user) I get the same error message if the user is an independent Director. Despite saying that it was not able to create an entry in the system Keychain, Keychain Access shows that there is an entry with the password. In addition, despite being unable to choose as the backup drive time Capsule, he mounted and left on the desk, the time Capsule (containing the sparsebundle) data folder.

    Any suggestions?

You are the second today with errors of Keychain.

Time machine on network not connection

Sierra is a new OS will have a few bugs... but I think that the way you did this configuration is problematic.

Actually, you have now two partitions with different BONES, but they will have identical computer names (migration has more the name). And it could also spoil the UUID of the disc.

I guess, but I would say

    1. change the name of the computer.

    2. start a new backup... do not try and link the existing backup.

    3. If you still have no success Delete TM (A4 Pondini) plist and reconfigure.

  • How can I migrate a time machine backup external USB drive to time capsule

Searched the forums and can't seem to find an answer. With the help of El Capitan 10.11.6. You want to transfer backups Time Machine 4 years on an external USB drive on my new Time Capsule. Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated.

We recommend that people not me there. It has not proven reliable long-term. Start a new backup on the TC and keep the USB stick in the form of archive. After a few months or a year you won't have it.

  • I have my time capsule for base station; How do I set up just for Time Machine?

For several years, I have used Time Capsule as a wireless base station more backup Time Machine. I back up a Macbook Air (single user) and iMac with 2 users (two computers running on OS X 11.5). With Comcast Xfinity I need is more like a base station. In fact, I reset my router Xfinity name and password to replicate what was the name and the password to my Time Capsule network. But, now that it's done I can't understand of set up time capsule without set it up as a base station. The installation guide seems to suggest that I could do so by plugging the ethernet cable from the modem to an ethernet port which is not the WAN port. But this configuration did not work. The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

The installation wizard only took me the steps to set up a wireless network. How can I simply we it with Time Machine as an external hard drive?

Simply turn off the time Capsule wireless.

To do... Open AirPort Utility, click on the Time Capsule, then click on modify in the window that appears

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Change the setting for the Mode of network on 'Off '.

Click Update to save the changes

But... and this is a big BUT... This work of pourrait ... and maybe not. Even if the backup on the Comcast network seems to be working, there will be no help from Apple in case of questions or problems of backup.

The reason is that, so that your Time Machine backups be supported officially by Apple, users must save on the Time Capsule wireless, or connect their Mac (s) directly to one of the three ports LAN <>- on the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet cable connection.

If you decide to try the method of failure to load, please let us know how things work after a few days.

  • Cannot remove old Time Capsule for time Machine destinations

My MacBook Pro moves with me between my home office and the different clients that I visit. At home, Time Machine backs up a volume of Time Machine on my Xserve served to the network by OS X Server. I guess that for the Mac it looks like a Time Capsule, although in my case, it's a RAID 5 with 12 TB of capacity.

The problem, when I connect to one network other than my home network. As you can see, the window from system preferences Time Machine offer 'Time Machine backup on 'Dominik AirPort Extreme' network', which is not actually present on any network. When I go home, Time Machine continues to try to save this destination does not exist and does not back up the volume on my Xserve. I have to manually switch for my Mac starting the backup on the Xserve again.

How can I make my Mac forget this volume forever? A couple of system reinstalls, to the end that I use the Migration Wizard to copy the configuration of the system from a backup, have not helped.

If you have a long exclusion list that cannot be easily re-created, you may prefer a procedure more complicated that maintains the list. In this case, ask for instructions. If not, see below.

Restart the computer and re-create your settings in the Time Machine preferences window. Falsely, it will show that you have no backups. Don't worry; your backups have not been affected.

Perform a backup to test. The backup can take much longer than usual. If TM now works as expected, delete the file that you copied to the desktop.

  • 'No available backup disk', Time Machine is not more Time Capsule

I have a time Capsule 2 TB and it has been used by Time Machine for many months.

A few days ago the Capsule detached from his power and today is now connected to the new.

Time Machine reports the error "backup disc not available."

Time Capsule lights are green, AirPort Utility is showing this device being lit also.

Time Machine knows how much space is available on this unit. However, it is not able to use this device to register older backups or to create a new.

  • First external USB disk backup from Time Machine and Time Capsule

I have a new USB drive from 4 TB to use for backups Time Machine plugged on my almost full Time Capsule.  The Capsule is connected to my network using Ethernet, so it can be used to back up my MacBook Pro and iMac (via ethernet) (wireless).

I would like to initial backups by directly plugging the USB directly on my iMac and my MacBook Pro.  I currently have the USB plugged into the Capsule of time connected to the ethernet. The initial backup for my iMac took 2 hours to make the 35GBs of 1.6TBs to back up so far.  So potentially 2 + days of initial backup...?

There must be a quicker way.

Box: to recover from my iMac support precedent (after a crash), which stood on a 3 TB USB2 drive plugged to the Capsule, it was estimated to take 36 hours.  I fly over the drive and plugged into the USB port on my iMac and the recovery only took about 8-10 hours, so it does not work for recovery.

I tried to make the backup of the iMac by plugging the USB drive of 4 TB directly on the iMac. I then moved the dUSB Time Capsule drive, but he seemed to start when plugged into the TimeCapsule. If possible, I must have done something wrong in the order.

It is extremely difficult to backup directly to the USB port and then move it to the TC because TM backup differently at local and network drives.

People have figured out ways around it... but you think that it cannot simply... After saving 1.6 TB of data.

    Here see Q18.

    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

The fact is... It is not a reliable method.

It's a little slow... is the gigabit connection and the wireless is turned off?

    What model is the TC?

Your sidebar... is absolutely true... you can easily go elsewhere... because you can mount the sparsebundle to the computer.

Box: to recover from my iMac support previous (after a crash), which stood on a 3 TB USB2 player connected to the time Capsule, it has been estimated to take 36

  • Time Capsule/Machine and my mental health

I approach insanity trying to untangle my time capsule. The Capsule is an A1470 with 3 TB.

I've set up on the purchase in January with my MacbookPro also brand new - am I not lucky?

It all worked well - wifi network, time machine - batch.

At the end of March, we had to have a new router - BTHome Hub5.

Everything disappeared - printer, time capsule, time ability machine work etc, yes I know the well-known story.

I spent 3 days together precious faced with this information: Burkina Faso / plain speak for idiots like me.

After reading what seems like everything on the forum and related links, I finally put in place the capsule time again, and it seems a network too.

    I'm not exactly sure how.

However, it is different, and the time machine sees the TC as a new drive.

I now have a picture of 'Data' on my desk which I believe is the previous data from backups.

In Time Machine preferences, I'm now backup on 'Data' which is a 'new '? disc.

Hovering on the disks of two 'data' that shows the details for the 'new' in TM preferences as follows:

    AFP: / /MyName%20mysurname; [email protected]./data

To the previous 'data' it reads

    AFP://scrufaptc.local/data

scrufaptc is the name of the time Capsule, I'm sure that you realize.

Time machine seem to make incremental backups to this 'News' data and did not attempt to do a full backup.

He knows the previous backups but won't admit it?

Can I place the old 'Data' on the ' new 'data '?

    I destroyed it?

Any help graciously received but not in technology talk please!

A change of router... (HH5) caused the entire network change... It is absolutely normal.

Whenever you change the main router of the network will change and the address of the backup.

When you change the location... you have no other choice than to start with Time Machine... He actually never check the new target for existing backups until it starts... I wish that apple would change this function because it's confusing... However, he starts a backup... the first thing he will do is searching for existing backup that it find then check... It can take quite long time to check the backup... Once done it will be then simply do the next incremental and all is good.

    So, what do you do...

    Absolutely nothing.

At any given time... TM may ask you you still want to use the backup of the old...

    AFP://scrufaptc.local/data

    Then you can say no...

Otherwise, you can reset TM now yourself.

    Here see A4.

    http://pondini.org/TM/troubleshooting.html

I don't think that you need to do it well.

He knows the previous backups but won't admit it?

Can I place the old 'Data' on the ' new 'data '?

3 days of struggle of the network has worn out you.

You can not put the old data in new data... they are after all one and the same.

TM is thick as a brick. As I said, he might one day ask you to allow him to find the old backups... or ask you want to use at the same time... you will say no.

Trying to go and delete the plists is not really necessary...

And for your own sanity... It may be useful to look at actually what is the partition of data of your TC in the Finder.

Click on the name of TC and the data to see what are the files/folders...

You should see a sparsebundle which is your computer backup... If you see two of them to talk to me.
