Time Machine don't prune the old El Capitan backups and works out of space and "backup fails.

With the help of El Capitan 10.11.1, I noticed a change in behavior with the handling of the time Machine of large files, specifically the files of virtual disk VMWare Fusion (about 50 large concerts).  After a few weeks of use of fusion VM virtual machine, Time Machine gives an error where it ran out of space and "backup failed."

I had the same problem occur on a second iMac that I own.

I reformatted my external drive for Time Machine and started fresh, but after a few weeks, I got the same error again.  It seems that Time Machine is not the size or remove older backups of VMware virtual disk to provide a space for the new.

Previous versions of Mac OS X and Time Machine had no problem with the backup of large files such as these.

Has anyone else noticed "backup failed" message with Time Machine on El Capitan?  I know that I can exclude the disk virtual VMware backup, but that defeats the entire purpose of Time Machine backups.  Any suggestions?

Time Machine automatically deletes older snapshots to make room for the new. If your backup history is shorter than expected, it may be because you want to save one or more large files frequently.

Software virtualization VMware, Parallels or VirtualBox creates a large virtual disk container that is constantly evolving. It will not be saved at all while the virtual machine running, and at other times it must be saved each Time Machine performance. Who fills up quickly any backup destination.

You must exclude files from virtual drive of your Time Machine backups. To do this, click the Options button in the Time Machine preferences window. You can also do this to virtualization, application settings. Back up the files on the virtual disk within the comments system, using a native backup application.

A compromise solution is to create a 'snapshot' of the virtual machine in the virtualization software (not a Time Machine snapshot.) This will give you a single large file that never changes and only has to be saved once. All future changes will be stored in a file that is much smaller initially, but will grow over time. You must always exclude this backup TM file. If you need to restore the computer virtual of Time Machine, you will have a working configuration, which will be easy for you to restore the rest of the data in the system of comments.

  • Time machine to transfer from the old to the new macbook

In my last year of high school, my school gave me a macbook to use. On this, I had installed mainly all adobe products to use in my class of media, etc. Two years after delivery of return my Macbook at school with all my data backed up via Time machine on an external hard drive; I bought my Macbook pro. After you install the data on my Macbook to time-machine on the external hard drive, I discovered that my adobe programs do not work. They ask me to put my activation codes, which I don't have. Have I not transferred information correctly from HDD, or do I have to buy all the adobe products?

You cannot transfer Adobe products. You must install correctly due to the activation system. and Yes, you need a serial number. It's between you and your school - you had licensed edu, after all, it seems. Otehrwise, you would have to buy your own license / register for creative cloud.

  • Time Machine do not wake the Macbook to perform backups

I'm saving a Macbook Pro on a Mac Mini with OS X Server installed. Previously, I supported it up to a USB hard drive connected locally. It is 1 year and Yosemite, can it take hourly backups while you sleep as expected.

In both cases, Time Machine works fine, except one thing... Hourly backups do not, occur when the computer is in standby. In other words, the Mac does not wake itself for the backup as expected (Power Nap is enabled.)

I've seen similar to this, other issues involving a UPS connected by USB, but I have no one.

    What I tried:

    1. I did a clean (with format) installation of El Capitan of the recovery partition and did not restore from Time Machine (just dragged my music, photos, documents to their respective homes manually).

    2. I have also reset the SMC and the PRAM without effect on this issue.

    3. I upgraded 10.11.2 and the problem persists.

4 past of connected locally to target (USB) for a target of network (on OS X Server) without change

Starting from what a manual backup works perfectly and automatic backups occur as planned then I use the computer (that is, as long as it doesn't go to sleep).

Energy Saver preferences are using default values, Power Nap is enabled.

So my question is just... Before I contact support, does anyone know if there is a bug open for this report?  I * have * read the other threads and they speak very precisely a connected UPS number and that a fix was imminent in 10.11.2. The other owners of Macbook having this problem?

Time Machine wakes you up only the Mac to perform a backup, if the Mac is connected to a power outlet. If you did that, then it might be a bug that I don't know a solution.

  • Time Machine restore, most of the alias icons are broken?

I recently restored the system of Time Machine, but my alias (for most) have broken images.  If I copy the aliases, they are all fixed, but I can't do it exactly for each alias on the machine!  Restoration of the alias of Time Machine seems to have the same effect.

Is it possible for the shot to solve this problem?

I tried several solutions, compensation resolved cache:

    Deploy sudo rm - rf / *.

    sudo rm - rf ~/Library/Caches/*

    Reset

If I had known what specific cache which is held the icon broken, images that would have been better.  It turns out that only some of the specific sizes were broken, which explains why the icons seem to appear and then disappear again on another page.

  • Time Machine could not complete the backup

Since installing a Superdrive replacement, Time Machine is not back up.  I get an error message that says: 'Time Machine could not complete the backup "Time Machine backup disk. Full backup impossible. An error occurred during the creation of the backup folder. »

I followed the instructions in the Time Machine error - backup failed, but none of the steps solved my problem.

  • Time Machine wants to finish the backup

I recently had a repair on my MacBook Pro.  They replaced the Logic Board 2.5 GHz.  Time Machine now wants to do a full backup instead of only since my last backup.  Should I just let a backup completes or is there a way to backup only since the last of them?  Will allowing him to make a full backup take too much space on my external hard drive?  The drive is fairly new and I know that there is enough space (for now.)  Apple advice for troubleshooting time Machine said to call the repair center, but I thought someone here might be able to help.  Thank you.

This is quite normal. Time Machine it's an another computer because the new logic board. So, you have to make a new backup. If you have no space on the backup drive, then erase the disc first.

  • Can I partition my drive Time Machine to back up the other 2 drives?

Is it possible to partition a hard drive and use it with Time Machine to back up the other 2 drives?

Example: I want to save internal drive of my iMac and my external storage drive, and I wonder if I can partition a hard drive for use with Time Machine, in order to safeguard my internal drive on one partition and the external drive to another partition. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, if it's not a time Capsule, but I wouldn't recommend it. I would use readers separated for each device you want to back up. If you put all one hard drive and this player goes down, then you have lost all your backups. With separate if backup fails a drive you will always have backups remaining intact.

  • Time Machine could not complete the backup-backup drive is not found

    I get a message...

"Time machine could not complete the backup to Time Capsule

I can't find the backup disk. Make sure that the backup disk is connected, or select a different backup disk. »

I have not had this problem before, it's all connected...

If you have not already made a comprehensive network feeding cycle, it would be a good basic troubleshooting step.

To turn off some appliances, you actually pull the plug on the appliance.

Turn off all devices on your network, computers, routers, modem, printers, mobile devices, etc... in any order you want

    Wait a minute

Turn on the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself

Switch on the device connected to a modem and let run for a minute

Keep turn on devices one at a time about a minute apart, until the entire network is back

    Try a backup

    Report on the results

  • Time machine could not complete the backup of... The backup disk image could not be found (error (null))

Running OS 10.11.3 on my early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, use Time Machine to back up to my Airport 802.11ac purchased 16/09/2014:

Backup failed: Time Machine could not complete the backup of... Airport Time Capsule.   The backup disk image ' / Volume/Data/MacBookPro.sparsebundle ' could not be found (error (null)).   Last successful backup: yesterday at 12:17

I can see the airport and the data file in my network.

I immediately did a full time Machine backup on a USB key and it disconnected from my system.

I unplugged the airport, let it rest for a minute and returned the power plug, let it settle for a green light.  I'm restarting Time Machine backup to the airport.

I need to replace the airport?  The appliance starts to fail?  Or, it is more likely is a problem with winter static electricity that has damaged the image and reconstruction will fix all this.  Reconstruction will take about four hours with no guarantee that it will work.

  • iPhoto has lost all the additions from June 2015 to 21 Feb 1016. Tried to restore from Time Machine, it still has the gap.

The date is February 24, 2016.

I'm studying me ways to copy the library iPhoto in full on an external drive. I've been in the Finder > my username > photos, simply by looking at the dates, and I'm not aware that I made any changes.

I was adding a handful of photos every day for the last week or two.

I noticed that the file system is not quite as it was a week ago, and it seems that the last event is June 29, 2015, up to an import on February 22, 2016. In other words, it seems iPhoto has restored to its state of June 2015 then accepted imports from February 2016. I had not yet been in Time Machine!

In the Finder > username > images, from now on, I see there: -.

    "Today."

"iPhoto Library", type - package, with a white page icon folded, created may 2012, 30.8 GB, modified today, version 9.4.3.

'iPhoto Library (original)', kind - iPhoto Library, with a colored icon, created may 2012, 27.46 GB, today, no modified version mentioned.

    «Past 7 days»

"iPhoto Library (2 originals)" type - package, with a blank icon page folded, created may 2012, 30,77 GB, modified February 19, 2016 (its Feb 24 today), version 9.4.3

In Time Machine, I restored version Feb 19, I find that the library was complete at this date, but the library has the same gap to date.

I would be grateful for any suggestion. I didn't have it backed up to the cloud. Please have mercy, I'm not that tech-letter, so I would appreciate instructions step by step to the intermediate level.

A big thank you Doug - greetings-

You do not use the finder in any way with your iPHoto photos - when you launch iPhoto see you - especially in the last import, and last month "n"?

    I have a RN104, there 4x3TB disks in there, configured in 2xRAID 1 volumes.

The 2nd Volume has recently added so that I can activate and use Time Machine for backups of my Mac.

That's the problem, when I start to set up Time Machine, it cannot see the remaining space in the 1st volume, I can't find a way to set up Time Machine to see or use the available space of the volume, I have installed specifically for Time Machine backups.

    Hello Thresherinc,

The /data/home/USER/.timemachine is where Time Machine stores data, this folder is always the default value / 1 volume of the NAS and can never be moved.
