Time machine - external hard drive recovery

I used time machine to back up my mac and an external hard drive. If I unplug the external drive and enter time machine, I can see no longer the external hard drive.

If my external drive is lost or stolen, how access backup?

You can not. If you are worried he'll get lost or stolen, get an external one, make a backup and keep this one in a very safe place.

  • Support MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5 using Time Machine on hard drive external & Clean install on new SSD capital El

I ordered a new SSD to upgrade my 2011 MacBook Pro that runs on OS 10.7.5. I would like to install own El Capitan on the new SSD. Can I save my current hard drive using Time Machine and an external hard drive and then re - download my old stuff in the new SSD? Is this possible at all?

Basically, I want the new SSD to be as clean as possible. Obviously, I would only the files and applications on my computer current to be transferred. I would be grateful and recommendations on the best way to do this. Thank you.

Look at these links for orientation:

    http://pondini.org/TM/19.html

    http://pondini.org/TM/5.html

I would format the new SSD in Mac OS extended (journaled), personally Run Time Machine to install your data and then install El Capitan.  In the end, it's your decision.

    Ciao,.

  • How to make a Time Capsule external hard drive backup

Hi I just got a time capsule airport which I backed up on my iMac.  I have an external seagate HD plugged on my mac via USB.  I have a catalog photo large library and adobe lightroom on the external hard drive I use and change almost every day. These files are NOT stored on my computer because they take so much space that I would like to keep the separate external disk.  It was my hope to keep a backup on my time capsule on a regular basis with my backup of the iMac.  I have time machine configured to backup from my mac, and then under options, I have seen the drive seagate showing as excluded.  I removed excluded readers and click Save. However I don't think during backup that he actually saved these files because the capsule still shows as have plenty of available disk space.  When I opened the options again shows seagate always excluded.

so question is can I save the iMac and the external hard drive at the same time?

If this is not the case, what is the work around for this thing saved?

    thnx

The Seagate disk should be in Mac Mac OS extended (journaled)format, also known as HFS +, if you want that Time Machine to back up your Mac.

Do you know how the Seagate drive is formatted?  If it isn't... . Right click on on the icon of the Seagate drive which is mounted on the Mac desktop, and then click read the information. In the window that appears, look for the Format.

What do you see when you check the Format?

  • The data stored on the external hard drive recovery

    Hello

Recently, my PC got corrupted and told me to save my data on an external hard drive before doing a reformat on my PC. In fact, all my data was saved when I update. A few months ago, in may 2014, I backed up my data in the drive C under the section 'My Document ' and also registered in my external hard drive as a backup. Thus, in June, July & the first 2 weeks of August 2014, I updated some data and stored in the 'My documents' file in the C drive. My PC got corrupted last week and told me to do a reformat as a last resort. Before that, I saved all my data (especially my Word & Excel) for my external hard drive to the file 'My Document '. After that the reformatting was made, I downloaded all required applications and try to remove my Excel file, which has the external hard drive, but the data were NOT the updated file, but the file that has been saved 3 months ago!

So, how can I recover my file up to date which was recorded August 12, 2014, supposedly on my external hard drive, or could it be hidden somewhere in the "C drive"?

    Help, please!

    Thank you!

    Kind regards

  • HARD drive to external hard drive recovery

    Hello

Like many others, my startup repair does not work and I want to restore factory settings. Before my Satellite crashed, I hadn't done a recovery disk, but did register the HDDRecovery software to a hard disk external.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to create a disc of recovery of this file or to run the startup repair using this folder on the external drive?

    Thank you

    > Can someone tell me if it is possible to create a disc of recovery of this file or to run the startup repair using this folder on the external drive?
As far as I know that something like this is not possible. Because of this Toshiba recommends the creation of recovery disks.

  • Is it necessary to use separate external hard drive or external hard drive new or freshly formatted for backup time machine.

Is it necessary to use separate external hard drive or external hard drive new or freshly formatted for backup time machine.

Both fresh and freshly, can use as a Time Machine backup HARD drive, although I personally prefer to use newly formatted disk.

  • Errors of license after recovering Time machine on an external hard drive

My internal HD failed and I'm temporarily using an external drive as my primary HD. I loaded all my data from my backup time machine external hard disk temporarily until my new mac arrives (next week). Now, I'm getting licenses 150:30 error code when I try to open Photoshop. It says restart may fix it. He has not fixed the problem. Any recommendations? I need to work on some files now and am stuck.

    Thank you!

Yes. This is very common. Photoshop should never be moved or transferred, because the license is tied to the Mac and move breaks the license.

The remedy is simple. Reinstall using your discs and don't forget to apply the updates. You will begin to 11.0.0.

  • Cannot access an external hard drive lost, encrypted BitLocker recovery key and do not know where to enter the password to unlock it.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-Bit on a Sony Vaio. Worked great, seems awsome and rolls GOOS GOOS, for a new operating system. I decided to use the BitLocker feature that I wanted to use from Vista Ultimate, which was incredibly dificult unlike BitLocker in Windows 7, which is extremely simple to use. So simple in fact, I encrypted my external hard drive Verbatim 160 Gig where the original BACKUP files are with ALL my original documents, settings and files of the company are located. I haven't used a USB key, or don't have I recorded the RecoveryKey, I printed and completely loses it, I remember perfectly well the password I used. Problem is I have NOW, I can't ACCESS MY HARD DRIVE! When I try to access the hard drive it asked me not the password recovery key. Please help me, im in deep poopie. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

Hey thanks for the reply Kev, but I must say that I did and didn't. The new Windows 7 operating system has this feature built-in and it is much easier to use. So yes I did it, but I made using windows 7 have where, instead of download all the files, I just insert the original DVD of WIndows 7, I restart my PC and follow the instructions of recovery of BitLocker recovery key, and voila. The problem is that I've NEVER stored on this particular external hard drive recovery key. BTW: I tried to follow the steps mentioned by Mr. Vijay but inconsistent tool with my operating system (Windows 7 64-Bit) it only works with Vista (not 150 percent certain but close). Please correct me if Im wrong. I wish I could change the world, if only I could find a diapper big enough to hold so many things...

  • Format external hard drive

    Hey guys
I used an old hard drive from the laptop to create a usb key recovery for a netbook without a disk drive.
How do I now the format of the hard drive for use again as it is no longer present on my pc, if I set to boot from it, it get up she just try to run recovery which was copied on it used.

    shig1,
If the only thing on the external drive is recovering files to the netbook, then chances are that your PC is not going to see this player.  The two computers to the same operating system or are they different?  If you don't need the files on the external hard drive recovery and see it the netbook, you may need to format it on the netbook so then the PC should see it.  But if you need to copy the files of recovery out there, I don't know what to tell you.  I would recommend to put these files on the hard drive of the netbook and get an external optical drive that you can make a CD or a DVD backup recovery files.  The two computers are linked by chance?  You can connect and use the transfer tool to copy the files from recovery on your PC, so you can burn it to a CD and then you could be formatted externally.

Transfer files and settings from another computer

  • Hard drive recovery partition

    Hello

    I have hp Pavilion dv6

I got my pc with the recovery disc for the new internal hard drive.

There are 4 primary partitions c

    System

    recovery

    HP tools

to activate the other partitions, I converted the recovery disc to the logic.

but now I want to store the recovery on the external drive and remove it from the pc... would it be possible to use the external hard drive recovery in the future.

something more like I want to install 2 os so I need two drives elementary then that can be deleted from the SYSTEM or TOOLS HP

Please help me with this task.

There is no need to copy to external hard drive. Make your DVD or USB Flash Media - Player's recovery. Although you may have already broken the recovery partition function by changing logic.

  • External hard drive renamed J k. How can I meet him at K?

I have used Windows 7 Pro for 6 months now. I also backup using Acronis. Everything was back up fine on drive K. However, last week I connected for the first time another external hard drive to use a few photos on this topic. I did not notice what drive letter it assigned. Last night when my backup was planned, he could not save because he back - up drive K, but it showed as reader J.

I assumed it was something to do with me using this another external drive for the first time last week. So I unplugged the power cord on this new disc (earlier in the week that I have had removed safely by just unplugging the USB and then turn off the power strip that has external drives on this subject). I then stop, and turn it back on and turning on the external drive power strip, I was hoping that my external origin 'Back-up' would return to drive K, but there is drive J.

How do I make my external original identify as drive K so my backups can run?

And what I can do to prevent that happening, because I need to use the other hard drive periodically?

    Thank you

    Steve

You must remove this particular device to the drive letter before they can be assigned to another device,

If the device is a reader of card win 7 does not let you delete the drive letters unless there is inserted media.
-No problems with removal XP / assignment of drive letters to media without inserted media players

If the device is a card reader internal, you will need to insert a card into the reader
Right-click on the block that has the info in there.
you will get the context menu
change drive letters and paths to remove unit K:
or if you don't have a compatible card to the reader
you will need to uninstall it from the Device Manager to free the drive letter

If it is an external USB card reader simply unplug to release K:

Edit: change the news to win 7 procedure

  • How do say I have this external hard drive more Time machine?

I keep all my personal documents on an external drive that is still connected to my Mac via USB. For the purpose of this question, we will call it this disc "Lagavulin".

In addition, I have a Time Capsule. Time Machine is configured to record its backups on the time Capsule.

TimeMachine performs regular backups of my complete system, including the operating system, applications and settings internal to the Mac disk, as well as my personal documents that are on the external hard drive "Lagavulin".

A few weeks ago "Lagavulin" behaved erratically, so I bought a new external drive to replace it. Let's call it "Ardbeg.

I have all my files from "Lagavulin" to 'Ardbeg' in reverse. Then I threw it "Lagavulin" in the Trash because his performance was getting worse and worse. The transfer went very well, and all my files are fine.

I put TimeMachine to include "Ardbeg" in its future backups.

The problem is that TimeMachine still thinks that I have "Lagavulin", even if I is no longer the branch. When I access TimeMachine and look what is recorded in it, it always includes the files on "Lagavulin" in its most recent backups. Thus, each current backup has "MacintoshHD" (system files), "Ardbeg" (personal records) and "Lagavulin" (old version of the personal folders).

How can I know TimeMachine that I own is no longer "Lagavulin"?

  • External hard drive - Time Machine

Hello.  I've been using Time Machine to backup my Mac Book Air on an external hard drive.  I have the latest OS - El Capitan 10.11.  Last night, I had to wipe my hard drive clean due to a third-party program of non-working that prevented me to connect to the network from my job.  I reinstalled the program today and I was able to enter the network from my job, but I am unable to restore all backups of my external hard drive on my laptop.  Time Machine does not give me the option to view all the backups that I know are there, although I can see the backups when I use Finder to view the external player.  I don't want to do a full restore, because I don't want to restore the third-party program of non-working.  I'm mainly interested in restoring my personal files and iPhoto iMovie.  Help, please!

It is clear to me, what is the problem, but I bet the answer is here:
