Time Machine - how to make 2 independent backups

Hello

How to use Time Machine to make 2 backups?

Finally I replace an old, embarrassing Ext. firewire Raid 1 car ("two-in-one')

with 2 independent drives Ext., both connected via USB3.

Time Machine will NOT work constantly - at the end of the working day that I use "NTI Backup Now".

What I always have to manually switch the disks?

Thank you.

It must alternate drives to each backup. I can't find the reference online. It might be in the help file.

  • Time machine does not see the existing backups

When I tried to make a backup of TM to my doesn.t TM HD external see my existing backups and trying to do a new backup complete. Firstly, it said "preparing backup..." "that takes a long time before you go make a new backup full not not using the existing to make a differential.

You're talking about two different things that above:

    • Create a new full backup
    • Recognizing the existence of previous backups

You seem to be assuming that because Time Machine seems to be to create a new full backup, so should not recognize the existence of all the previous backups.  This assumption is wrong.  New full backups are created, for example, when the update of OS X.

The way to check if the Time Machine recognizes the previous backups would be to use the Time Machine application to check if you can see previous versions of files.

If you want to backup, it is best to start again... clean the new backup any attempt to add a previous backup failed.

I recommend that you actually erase the TC... do a complete factory reset and start again.

  • Restore a hard drive backup time machine (how?)

I've been Googling this and if you don't find a clear answer.  If you can point me in the right direction please do.

I have a Mac Pro, and the system drive (a 850 Pro SSD Samsung I installed it a year ago) has failed.  At this point, I can't clone it, and the only recent backup I have is the Time Machine backup.  I have an old backup to clone (if all goes well bootable).

What is the best way to install a new HD and restore from Time Machine backup?  All of the guides I can find mention using recovery recovery partition or on the internet, or which are options in this case.

A proposal, it is something like:

    (a) in a way to format the new disk (starting from the bootable clone if all goes well?)

    (b) restart into recovery mode?  Will be (a) install the recovery on the new disk partition?

I have also 4 readers installed in the Mac (now dead), I don't know if that complicates.  (System, data, and a clone of each.  The clone system is very up to date.)

(I normally also note make backups with SuperDuper! but for a reason that has not been running on this hard drive for months.)  "And it's too late now).

    Thank you.

(I'm on the latest version 10.10, not what it says in the signature.  The clone may be some 10,10 versions behind.)

In particular, the directions of Apple are meaningless:

OS X Yosemite: restore your entire system

    It is said in short:

    1. Replace the HD.  (Done, now there a disk not formatted instead of a system drive.)
    2. Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on... (of course, ok)
    3. Choose the Apple menu > restart.  (How do I?  There is no OS installed.)

Etc., but if I followed these instructions I get no further than 2.  With the clone bootable in the computer, there just boots that and will not go into recovery mode (looks like the clone has no recovery partition).  So I'm stuck.

    Suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

  • Time Machine - how to restore the files it deleted?

I used Time Machine to restore your desktop earlier. In doing so he erased the current Office - which I had not saved. I know, I know. But is it possible to get the most recent desktop and its folders and files again?

You cannot recover the files that you do not backup.

NEVER start a major change to a computer without backup in progress...

In any case... you are where you are now...

    How did you restore?

If you have used assistant migration did you use the same usernames... If so, the old office went and wiped on... but if get it has used an audit of different username for users on the computer and the connection with the old name. Also, make sure that the name is not incremented. Recover can operate with two users with the same name... the existing and recovered... so it can rename one... for example, aickind (1) can exist with aickind (regardless of your user name on the computer).

In the Finder, see the list of users. Open them directly from the main boot disk... not your usual list of Finder.

If you use the wizard to configure the recovery partition... As far as I know you have wiped the computer from the recovery date... After all, it's what you asked to do.

  • Time Machine - how to change discs

    Hello

Until now, I had time Machine using external HD_1 external drive. I just bought a new drive, external HD_2. I'd like Time Machine to begin to use external HD_2 while the addition of new backups to existing backups database.

My question is: How can I transfer the backup database that is currently on HD_1 to HD_2? Do, I just have:

    -stop time Machine

-in the Finder, move the folder of backups from one volume to another database

-to tell Time Machine to use HD_2 and reboot

or are there other complications - for example I'll end up with 2 databases disconnected backups - I need?

  • Time Machine has only 2 weeks of backups. What is wrong?

I have an IMac of TB 3 end 2013 with the merger in car. I bought this 2 years, as well as management Porsche Design 3 TB external time Machine. External drive has been sold with the iMac at the time so I guess it was good. About 5 months ago, he was frozen and had backup. I assumed it was dead and the time for a new. After the restart it several times it came back to life and has worked in the background since then. Today, I entered TM and noticed that I have only 2 weeks of backups, even if the backup on the right meter shows 2-year-old backups, I can access only the last 2 weeks. In addition, the hard drive is almost full to bursting. My IMac does not use same 1 TB of the 3.

Is - this sound normal? It's time to replace the HD?

You can run disk utility > first aid on the drive and see if there are errors.

  • Time Machine - How he manipulates iMovie library?

Looking at turning on Time Machine with an iMovie 2 TB file.   Two questions:

1 Time Machine will perform incremental (after a full backup) in the library at the file level, if a project/event is added or changed to iMovie?   Or consider the iMovie library changed as a whole and backup the entire 2 TB each time that any file in the iMovie library folder is changed?

    2. same question as above, but for the restoration.   You restore the iMovie library, if you want to restore the files associated with a single event or files related to a project?

    -Mark

Time Machine will perform incremental (after a full backup) in the library at the file level, if a project/event is added or changed to iMovie?

    Yes.

You restore the iMovie library, if you want to restore the files associated with a single event or files related to a project?

You must restore the library in a consistent state, and the only practical way to do so is to restore all at once.

I made a backup for a while (6 months).  At the start of time machine, I get a box asking if I want to inherit the history of backups from another computer.  The problem is that the backup was not made on another computer... earlier versions have been but not the last one...

  • How to make a manual backup, so I have redunant copying my files

To ignore the story set in the last paragraph
I have thousands of pictures on my laptop. I also have another, my desktop computer, a significant amount of disk space that I use for my backup
I prefer manual backups as I want to use the content on both computers. I change my daily photo library, remove some photos that I need more, add new ones, so at the end of everything I have thousands of pictures on my laptop, most which are saved on the desktop, there are also a few new on my laptop that I would like to copy on my desk, AND there are a few elders on the desktop are no longer on the laptop (that I would like to delete)
To say the easy things, all I want to do is make an exact copy of the photos on my laptop to my desktop folder.
The only way I found to do this was to copy the whole folder to the desktop and then remove the old version of him
If I just copied the new version of the folder just above that older new photos get copied but older are deleted
Redundant comments: how to make an exact copy of a file in, say, another partition that has an older version of this same folder, which means that there is some files (in the older version folder) is no longer, I need and would like to get their removal, and other files that are already present in the two cases, I want to NOT crash. I can't do it manually because there are thousands of files and hundreds of files! Can anyone help?

In addition to the tool to try it, I forgot to mention that Windows Live Sync app keeps files in constant sync, so if a file is changed, it will distribute the latest version of all locations synchronized.  But if a file does not change, it will not re-synchronized.

However, there is another tool that is a bit more customizable and can be run on command (there's even a command line command so you can put it in a batch file or scheduled task).  It's Microsoft SyncToy.  Here are some resources that might interest you:
  • How to make an ESXi backup on USB?

I have a few servers ESXi 4.1 on USB keys. Now I wonder how can I save the config ESXi and USB itself, in which case the USB will be dead or damaged? One of the USB key on a single server is already showing the signs to go to rest forever, and I would like to have a backup of it. Is there a tool I can use to create a backup on another USB key?

Thanks, I was looking for some kind of script. And the backup process itself is ok, but the restore configuration procedure needs to be alive and running of the ESXi host. So in case of emergency (USB key works do not), what would be the correct procedure to restore the server without hollow is a complete reinstallation of ESXi and reload the config with vicfg-cfgbackup?

Well, everything depends on how many ESXi servers you have.

If you have small env is not worth to spend a lot of time for preparation of extra super recovery too. I don't know anyone who supports up that ESX or ESXi breaks.

    For small env:

    1. PowerCLI script -you can create the script CLI power for each of your guests with specific parameters

    http://communities.VMware.com/community/VMTN/Server/vSphere/automationtools/PowerCLI

    Catering requirements:

ESXi server must be running in - running

    restore procedure

manual installation of ESXi (15 minutes), after installation, run a script (2 minutes) against the new server and DONE

    2. with the help of vMA

Create a bash script that would back up ESXi firmware, set it on a weekly basis in crone (on the server of the vMA)

    Restore requirements

    ESXi server must be running

ESXi must be on that same level as if it were before the construction accident

    restore procedure

manual installation of ESXi (15 minutes), after installation restore a Firmware using the new server and DONE
