Time Machine, which could cause slow startup?

After issues with finder/desktop freezes I disabled automatic backups time machine and disconnected the disk.

The drive does not have an index problem if I try to go into the time machine - but it made a backup and I don't want to lose those there until I have solve the problem.

It all started when I was a housekeeping cleaning - deleting a file PDF - update of my photos outside of iphoto to include an image with text etc.

Lately reached some stability during starts - in this very fast - almost every day except Wednesday - what is the start of a new week on my time machine - today's startup disk was gray and blue for a few minutes - then to avoid a freeze I restarted after loading the desktop computer.

This also happened this afternoon when I started again - same last week - up to what he did and why - nothing in the logs to indicate anything unusual.

If I plug the drive and push a time machine backup will scan the drive anyway so don't know what's the point.

Just a quick note here - while in offline mode system - about 5 minutes after the use of widgets - frozen - was to force the reboot - but I did remove all the widgets and disable all the table - as one or more of them--came with Snow Leopard - can be the source of the problem.    I just put the calculator (not the widget application

Extra - last night I noticed a lot of disk activity when I didn't do anything other than look at the activity - with TimeMachine notifier - monitor issue as time machine is not connected and is off - when I connect it - it will scan the disc again - so what is the Apple of point.

Had trouble starting this AM - had a finder does not not - was able to force quit of doc and did a reboot, and I did a second reboot.

  • Time Machine backup keeps causing MBP restart

    Hi all

I'm a DJ and just more than one year, I bought a brand new series of mid-2012 13-inch Macbook Pro (non-retine) with an i5 2.5 Ghz processor.
I installed a 750 7200 RPM HARD drive and max had the RAM to 16 GB with memory mac 'official' of CanComputers. I only use this machine for DJing. I have all my music in two folders on the desktop, I have 2-3 music applications and she. 10.9.5 running and I'm doing time machine backups every month.

This month, my time machine was told the drive was corrupted and that I was able to read (it was a 500 GB Lacie Rugged). OK: I had another drive, a 1 TB USB3.0 Toshiba Ext HDD. 4 GB in the new backup, laptop computer suddenly shutdown, reboot and I get the message that the computer turns off due to a problem. I looked in the logs and nothing in particular stood out.

I tried excluding my office of the backup and it worked - it supported a set of 3 GB. Then I added a little music on the desktop and excluded other files, and it has not yet. The entire backup is estimated to be about 450GB.

I don't have time to play the files on this computer. Someone please tell me what I can do to solve this problem, or at least what is causing the problem. In the meantime, does anyone have an effective solution for the backup of these files?

    Thank you

  • There is a file or a folder called "c:\Program" which could cause some applications will not work correctly. Rename it to "c:\Program1" would solve this problem

Original title: message 'warning of file name '.

In the last week or so, I get a warning box appears on my desktop (from Windows 8) whenever I start.  He said "there is a file or a folder called"c:\Program"that could cause some applications don't work does not correctly."  Rename it to "c:\Program1" would solve this problem.  You want to rename now? "and there are 2 options:"Rename"or"ignore ".  I have "Binged", and there are a few very old discussions about it (like 5 + years ago) and the consensus seems to be that it is a matter of Windows.  What should I do to get rid of him?

OK, so here is how I SOLVED this problem.

In my case while studying this on a device of clients, I found that a VOIP program caused this problem and the error message popped up, and rename the folder won't work because the program is running.

Then I found the voip program (in the taskbar in this case) and closed. I then found the file that needed change of name, "c:\program" and renamed to 'c:\program1 '.

Then restarted the computer and... Don't pop up.

    I hope this helps.

  • Reference Dell R810 with 'too' 10gig NICs, which could cause Group?

We run only integrated esxi U1 4.1 Dell R810 with 128 GB of ram and two CPUs from Intel 7560 8 - core server.  They have 4 to 10 GB (2 dual-port maps) network cards and 4 on-board network to 1 GB cards.  10GB network adapters are all Intel X 520-2 (two ports) using the IGB driver.

They were CMTF ' ing randomly over the past weeks (but not more than once a week and only 3 of 18 servers with this same configuration have been CMTF).  So we contacted Dell.  After diligence analysis of their side, checking the logs, management versions of the BIOS, firmware, and other settings, etc. they are pointing the finger back at VMware (KB 1020808 in particular).

Dell claims their hardware config itself is absolutely perfect after first suspecting a power problem (from 4 NIC 10gig) which they have thrown from.  So we are at a loss, short of removing the port double 10 GB network adapters and replacing them with single port 10 GB NIC (per article) since we currently only 2 of the 4 in use; I wanted just more for the future.

Based on the feedback/logic of Dell, these same PSODs could occur on ANY platform hardware provider server running 4.1 U1, if these servers were equipped with 4 10gig NIC and 4 1gig NIC.

We are all Jumbo-image not (for now) / 1500 MTU.  That said, the article specifies "recommended" maximum:

    For MTU 1500 configurations:

    • ports of 10 G OR 4 x
    • 16 x 1 G OR ports
    • ports 2 x 10G + port 8 x 1 G

The closest is our generations/configs come in (which is 4 x 10G ports + port 4 x 1 G).  Let's remove 2 10G ports by removing the two dual port 10G cards in there now, and replace single port 10G cards and see if the PSODs continue.  If they do, Dell is for a world of pain.  If they do not, then well, I guess that ESXi 4.1 U1 can only 'manage' 2x10G ports with up to 8 x 1 G ports, as they the article inferred.

Any feedback is welcome!  Someone out there running ESXi builds (any manufacturer of server) with FOUR cards of 10 GB/ports in them?  Thank you.

Your problem is 4 to 10 GB network adapters.

Replace them with a single HBA port.

If you * only * had four NICs 10GB then it would work, but nothing, including the NICs 1 GB will not work.

I saw a customer with this problem before and vmware support claimed with 4 10 GB NICS, adding an extra, including even just

an additional 1 GB nic will cause problems.

  • Time Machine extremely slow after upgrade to El Cap

Time Machine problem with upgrade to Yosemite to El Cap on a laptop MBPr 15 "mid-2012.

Time Machine backup plan: by wifi or LAN cable for two different hard disks attached to a Mac Mini that is on the local network. Two USB mini drives would serve as a backup for a total of 4 Mac disks at home.

Behavior of Time Machine in Yosemite: dead normal. Backups were fast (10 Mbit/s in wifi, 80 MB/s when I plugged the MBPr on my LAN using a bolt of lightning for the Ethernet card.) Restored backups (I test them sometimes) fine.

I upgraded yesterday to El Capitan. Behavior of the time Machine now: excruciatingly slow. All the steps (preparation, backup, cleanup) takes hours. My laptop was connected to the wired LAN for 9 hours now and is only 1.26 GB thanks to a backup of 3.82 GB. Speed (from MenuMeters) is under 10 KB/sec - Yes, it is * kilogram * bytes/s.

Speed of transfer of files between the two machines via drag & drop is very good, ~80MB/sec both on the LAN, about 12 MB/s in wifi. Laptop computer interacts with the web at normal speeds. It does not appear that Time Machine, which is watered, and only on my laptop of Capitaned newly-El. My other domestic machines (all on Yosemite still) back up normally.

    I tried:

    -power / reboot both machines.

-power / restart the LAN together.

-cycle Time Machine power switch in the Prefs system.

    -Remove the two drives as backup targets TM laptop, then re - specify with preferences TM;

-other things that I found through the search for this problem.

It is a common problem in judging by the many valuation model who met it. I searched a lot and found nothing that helped me.

I can't work without a viable backup. For now, I use Carbon Copy Cloner to duplicate my SSD MBPr for an external hard drive. Not really satisfying.

Did someone solved this problem? Can someone tell me or suggest a solution? Thank you very much!

Please make a copy of test in the Finder of the source for the backup volume. Is it too slow? Delete the files copied from the backup volume after the test.

  • Backup from Time Machine not recognized

Hello. I have a mid-2011 21 "iMac 2.8 GHz i7 with 16 GB of RAM, running 10.11.4, El Capitan. My old 1 TB HDD (HARD drive) was giving me problems (grinding and draw and he had considerably slowed down), so I backed up the computer with Time Machine (which I did for years), and I bought a 1 GB SSD from OWC replacement kit. I installed it in the hard drive, location in my iMac, reinstalled the operating system, and the new drive is running great. No problems with it.

The drive Time Machine is a disk HARD Seagate 2 TB external drive connected by USB to the computer.

So, my next step is to transfer the old news of Time Machine in the new drive. I tried first Assistant Setup in recovery mode, but the Machine of the time in the car was not found (recognized). When I started normally, the drive of the Time Machine is visible on my desktop, and backup files appear in there.

So, then, I ran on the drive disk utility. I could not launch 'repair' the disk as a whole (the button is dimmed when I click on the disc), but I fix the partition on the disk. No not found errors.

Then I went in the Migration Wizard to move the files. But I had the same problem as before - Migration Wizard does not see the Time Machine drive.

So. I tried to enter Time Machine 'Star Wars' show on the computer and dated backups appear on the right side of the screen, but then, when I go to look at, it does not appear that there is something in them.

I kept the old drive HARD and (in panic), I ordered a box to put the old drive, and I'll try to get the files this way. But, I still want to use the files on my Time Machine drive.

At this point, the only thing I have to save my documents, my pictures and family videos and music. If only I could get in the 'Home' on my Time Machine backup folder by clicking on the player, I will manually install the files 'Desktop', 'Documents', 'Movies', 'Music' and 'pictures '. I don't know if this is possible, and I have never done this. I don't like not everything 'Applications', or anything else, so I'm willing to do the grunt work on those reinstall the old way. Can manually install you the items in the folder to the home page of Time Machine in another drive?

Any advice you can give literally will save me! I'm kinda at a loss on what to do. The last time I used Time Machine to do this (to transfer the files on the iMac 2011) it worked like a charm.

    Thank you! Clay

  • El Capitan upgrade crash & loss of backup Time Machine

I have a 2008 MBP running Yosemite and back up to a Time Capsule. Last week, I noticed weird problems with connectivity and slow performance. Last week, I started receiving messages that the Time Machine backup failed.

I decided to upgrade to El Capitan in the hope to solve weird problems I saw. I checked in the application Time Machine that my last backup was March 28, so I proceeded with the upgrade.

The upgrade of the El Capitan crashed and I got an error report. I tried several of the fixes available online (hold Shift and start in safe mode to complete installation, command-R and reloading the OS X). Nothing has worked.

I finally decided to go back to my backup TM start over and try again. I held command-R and got in the start menu. I chose to restore from a backup Time Machine, which has been connected to my TM. However, my TM shows that my latest backup is 28 July 2015. It is a huge problem...

How is it, I was warned never between July and March that backups are not working?

Why TM would show that I had a valid backup on 28 March, when its not available in the restoration of the process?

I am at a loss. I am trying to restart in safe mode to see if my files are still on my local HD, but who is locked up.

Can you please advise what to do? Thank you.

    Time Machine is less reliable.

I advise the people now to create a clone of their computer startup drive bootable using an application like Carbon Copy Cloner... immensely more reliable than TM.

Which of course is useless for you now.

My advice is to put the current hard drive of the computer replaced. It is likely that the installation failed (and your previous operating system was in place) because of the disk hard defective... they are cheap and readers are now extremely better than 2008 if the laptop is on the original drive.

Clean, install the OS on the new drive, then connect the old hard drive to the computer using a sata cable USB... drive bracket / speaker.

Then you're going to see how good or bad it is... and I hope that you can import (use the migration assistant) and get all of your files.

  • Impossible to use Time Machine on Airport Extreme

Back in June, I brought a laptop HD work to save the laptop. It's something I have done 3 times a year, in addition to using Time Machine on my 1 TB Airport Extreme. Well, when I did that, I went from 'H Time Capsule' to 'Brian's Portable HD. Everything saved. No problem. It seemed.

Unfortunately, I can no longer use Time Machine on the 1 TB drive. Every time as I try, I get "password to the server": Time Capsule". And the password I try does not work. Arrrggh.

Is it possible to find the password lost at an Airport Extreme?

Can or, if it's a no-go, I reset everything on it and start over?

    Thank you.

    Brian

It would really help if you could provide the version of the operating system that you use on your laptop.

The reason is that if you can access the AirPort Extreme using AirPort Utility, you can retrieve the "lost password" for the album Time Capsule, which could be the password wireless, could be the base station password, or it might be the disk password... it depends of how you implement the AirPort Extreme.

  • Time machine backup external hard drive

    Hi all

I'm looking to move my iTunes library to a new drive external hard to free up space on my iMac storage internal 1 TB drive.

My concern is the Machine of the time's up, is it possible that I can set it up so it will save the new external hard drive which will be my iTunes library folder?

I am currently using Time Capsule with my iMac, but wonder if I can use it with the external hard drive.

Any info or advice would be great.

    Thanks in advance

Backups Time Machine is up as the startup disk (which is actually a volume and not a disc), it backs up external drives or other volumes on the internal drive.  If you want to save to an external drive to a Time Capsule and then use Finder to copy the files or search for third party software that automatically copies files.

  • Copy Time Machine backups on Second drive

While I've seen some support responses on this issue, I don't know what relates to my situation.

My scenario: I have a new iMac on the way to replace my current 24 "in early 2009.  I thought I could have my current computer time just come back on the computer where the other was arrested, but my research seems to indicate that this is not the case.

My solution is to do the following:

    (1) transfer the backups on the Machine of the current time to a second external drive.

Note: I also intend to use this second unit of disk storage system of primary file to the new computer.  The new iMac will be an SSD where I only intend to keep applications and files that I use for the projects basically video/photo.  It is a 4 TB drive, so plenty of room for me to organize my current files and backup Time Machine, which is about 1 TB.

    (2) current Time Machine to reformat and put up again as the time Machine to the new computer.

    Here's my question:

After trying to simply drag and drop the folder "backups.backup" of time to my new drive of a second Machine, I got the message error "volume a bad upper/lower case distinction for backup."  It seems that my Time Machine has been formatted as journaled attention to case, but the new disc has been simply logged.

I'm currently following these instructions using disk utility: time machine TM file transfer

    I'm left with two questions:

First: It says "copy blocks. "Estimated time: 23 hours"-which seems excessive for just 1 TB of info.

Second: Most important.  After this process I will be able to use the second drive as a storage drive, or is it simply that in fact in another time Machine?

Honestly, I've never used TM to find a lost file or two and never for a restoration complete, so I'm not particularly worried about it.  Secondly, I have change my Time Machine drive each year (holding to the old disks).  I just did this in January, so if I lose a few months of backups, not a huge deal.  I just hope that simply keep these backups as a just in case where.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

FWIW, it's not recommended to use the same drive for backups Time Machine and data for several reasons. It can be done, but you need to create two partitions.

WoodyZ - is there a way I can rebuild this section?

If you can find the file "Windows 7 x 64 - s010.vmdk" within the structure of the backup folder Time Machine which is closest to you, you might get lucky, but really all depends on what exactly in this segment of the disc.  I use the find command in a Terminal to find this file because I do not think that you will find with Spotlight.  If you can find the file "Windows 7 x 64 - s010.vmdk", then in an attempt to at least be able to mount the drive with VMDKMounter in order to try to recover all the data, you can you can always replace the file "Windows 7 x 64 - s010.vmdk" with a segment of fake or another as duplicate file "Windows 7 x 64 - s011.vmdk" and rename it file "Windows 7 x 64 - s010.vmdk.  FWIW, it will really depend on exactly what was in the file "Windows 7 x 64 - s010.vmdk" about what you might be able to recover with VMDKMounter or even to start the Virtual Machine.  I actually had the results mixed in the past where only data could be retrieved and cases where all data have been recovered and in some of these cases, the Virtual Machine is bootable and in some not so it all comes down to what was in the missing segment.

At this point you have nothing to lose and everything to win then to give a try.
