To the main unit Infrastructure Cisco switch port

Hello.

I had a doubt as to the Port of the Switch in my Cisco Switch for a camera of the first Infrastructure.

This port must be a Switchport to access or a Switchport Trunk?

What is your recommendation on this subject? What is best practice?

Thank you very much.

Access port should work fine. You do not configure a VLAN on the device itself, just the IP address / subnet and default gateway.

Thank you

  • is possible to configure the wan on Dell N3024 switch port

    Hello

    as I said in the topic. I got a new switch N3024 of Dell.  I worked in before cisco, but dell is new to me. I have a few question to ask: -.

    is that we can configure wan on that port?

    is - this switch supports the aggregation of the ISL?

    If Yes please share the switch manual

    Thanks in advance

    The WAN connection is made usually by creating a VLAN and assignment of an IP address in the same subnet as the device that it connects this VLAN.

    Example:

    Create VLAN 10

    database of # vlan

    VLAN # 10

    For example let's say that 1/0/1 interface connects your firewall, which has an IP 10.10.10.1 30 assigned to its interface. This means that we would assign 10.10.10.2 30 to VLAN 10.

    # interface vlan 10

    # 10.10.10.2/30 ip address

    Then place the interface 1/0/1 in access mode for VLAN 10.

    # interface gigabitethernet 0/1/1

    switchport mode access #.

    # switchport access vlan 10

    Enable the VLAN routing on the switch.

    # ip Routing

    Define a static route pointing out traffic at the firewall.

    # ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.10.1

    Orders of trunking VLAN are very similar to the Cisco commands.

    # interface gigabitethernet 0/1/1

    switchport mode trunk #.

    # permit switchport trunk VLANs 1-1024

  • Turn on the mtu on cisco switch and cisco user server

    Hi all

    someone got bad luck turning on the mtu on their cisco switch?  I guess I need to turn it on for all because the command is for all ports on cisco catalyst and my server switch is nearby to my user of switches and a broadband bandwidth 6 G or 6 ports, I need to turn it on for all user ports?

    Thanks for any comments, that you can add.

    I assume you mean Jumbo frame support! You shouldn't have any problems with that. Please take a look at for example http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_configuration_example09186a008010edab.shtml for more details and the configuration of the different switches. According to the model, the parameters are for dedicated ports only or the entire switch. In the case of the switch everything you will need to reload (reboot) switch, so be careful.

  • Fault tolerance switch port guidelines

    I am setting up our lab to test fault tolerance. I plan to use a vSwitch sperate isolated FT and separate FT VLAN. Are there specific indications for siwthc trial paramΦtres I can give to my network group. I want to just make sure that the physical ports are configured before idelly I start testing.

    I didn't know that your plan was to use vSwitch dedicated only for FT traffic and nothing else.

    So, I recommended that you use the "load-driven" (new feature in 4.1) for a better distribution of traffic between natachasery on vswitch but also for network IO contol to partition the link between the different types of traffic. But you are right, as long as the vswitch is dedicated for FT, no need to use it.

    The extent of the Cisco switch port config, if you run the two natachasery to the same switch, you can use etherchannel, although the single link 1 Gbit/s is more than enough for traffic FT. Also, I recommend to enable portfast on ports involved to avoid any interruption when other devices added to the network, triggering the spanning tree protocol recalucations.

    For traffic to

    distribue distributed by grouping network adapters, configure the virtual switch through which the logging

    traffic flow on the road based on IP hash policy. This strategy uses

    source IP address and destination of traffic flows to

    determine the uplink. Pairs of feet between different hosts ESX employ more than

    a pair of source address and destination for logging of FT.

    To use the route depending on the hash IP policy, the physical switch ports must be configured etherchannel mode.

  • Problem with switch ports linksys 5 (EZXs55w)

    Recently, I upgraded my internet from DSL to cable. While using the connection DSL my 5 switch port has worked perfectly fine. Since going with cable, I can't connect my other computer or xbox 360 to my network. I get a message on the computer that will not connect say limited or no connectivity. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

    As you have changed your ISP from DSL to cable, this option will not work with the cable ISP. Buy a router (wired or wireless router) to do your multiple computers to go online with your cable ISP.

  • How to access the CLI Mode in cisco sf 302 - 08 p 8-port 10/100 Managed switch

    Hello

    Can someone help me on how to access the CLI mode in cisco sf 302 - 08 p 8-port 10/100 Managed switch. I treid the each method they mentioned in the administration guide. I am not able to enter the command debug mode and comand menu after resetting the default password. Once connected, sound directly to guide me to switch main menu.

    Hello FAL, Mark,.

    Thank you for your participation in the community of support to small businesses. My name is Nico Muselle of Cisco Sofia HWC.

    To access the CLI, you must make sure that the version of the firmware on your switch is at least 1.1.0.73 or preferably higher. Then activate telnet or ssh on the switch and opening of these sessions or a console session you will see that you are in CLI mode. You can return to the console to function menu using the menucommand.

    I hope that answers your questions!

  • Required for NAC firewall ports manager manage/add the Cisco switch

    Hello

    I am trying to add switches cisco for the NAM, but I am not able to add the switch I get the error "unable to control switch" I tried opening ports 161-162 on the firwall; If I were to allow all traffic between the NAM and the switch, cisco NAM is able to add/manage the switch.

    Do not know what are the other ports may be required for cisco NAM for managing the switch?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    As far as I KNOW, only UDP 161 and 162 for SNMP communication ports must be open.

    Please make sure that you have configured the correct port on the switch:

    (config)# snmp-server host 172.16.1.61 traps version 2c cam_v2 udp-port 162 mac-notification snmp

    If still does not, I would check the logs on the firewall for any traffic blocked between the cam and the switch.

  • Mode of the switch port to connect to a router

    I wonder what mode to set the switchport is connected to a router.

    I guess the cable between the router is connected to a port in trunk mode (for all the VLANS defined)? Then I Lass with gateways for VLANs pointing to the router routing interfaces?

    So in this way, if a neighboring switch does not know how to route a packet to an unknown IP address, the packet is sent on the trunk to the other switch. Here the appropriate VLAN SVI sends the packet to the appropriate router interface. Is this correct or nearly correct?

    Hi Atle,

    You can connect a trunk port or port access to a router. If you choose to use an access port, the router will form an adjacency only through the VIRTUAL LAN defined in this access port. If you choose a trunk port, you can use dot1q encapsulation on subinterfaces of adjacencies form on several VLANs. If you use a trunk you would this type of configuration:

    On the switch:

    item in gi1/0/1 interface

    switchport mode trunk

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk allowed vlan a to c

    On the router

    gi0/0.a interface

    encapsulation dot1q one

    IP address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y

    !

    interface gi0/0.b

    encapsulation dot1q b

    IP address v.v.v.v y.y.y.y

    !

    interface gi0/0.c

    encapsulation dot1q c

    IP address z.z.z.z y.y.y.y

    To answer your question, you can use the router as a default gateway for hosts. In this case, should not have an IVR on the switch, except for MANAGEMENT purposes. Traffic from the hosts would take the path of the L2 to the router and then the router would make the next decision of transfer for the package. If you have two routers, you could do a safe for both routers and run a FHRP between them for redundancy.

  • Spanning tree Distribution Switch Port is root for all the VLANS

    Hello world.

    Uplink to switch on 2 layer network flat if Distribution change a.

    This distribution uplink port is Root Port.

    Core switch port goes to the Distribution switch appears as State PLEASE FWD.

    It will cause slow for users who are connected to the network on the Distribution switch?

    According to my understanding core should be Root STP for all the right of VLAN?

    If necessary how can I make kernel as root port switch port?

    Thank you

    MAhesh

    Hello

    a root is a designated port (if shipping port) on a non-root bridgewhich a path root the lowest cost to the root bridge. So there is nothing unusual here, and your kernel needs to be done to root bridge if you run STP between distribution and kernel as you apparently.

    Kind regards.

  • The ISE Cisco switch configuration

    Hi experts,

    I got the following network:

    Devices-> switch access-->--> access switch central office switch-> ISE Server

    All switches are capable IOS for the 802. 1 X and configurations of AAA for ISE to manage network devices. However, I read in the guide on the configuration of the switches in preparation for the deployment of the ISE of CIsco, but I wonder what should I configure switches for access and basic switches or only configure the switches for access to EHT?

    Thanks for your time to read!

    If all clients are non-DHCP clients, then no configuration is based or distribution at all.

    But you may need to search different options of profiling, if the customers are not active DHCP. Access switch supports the function of detection IOS? Would be very useful to have such a that it would send important profiling information at ISE. You may need to use the right options for ISE of profiling to determine the details of the endpoint.

  • Switch ports connected with cross cable on the same switch...

    Hi experts,

    Just got a doubt.

    If both a stand-alone switch ports are connected by a crossover cable, how will be the stp of attitude toward this scenario...

    Thank you

    Arun

    Hi arun,

    As we all know the switches use according to criteria of application PLEASE:

    (1) to root the lowest BID

    (2) a low-cost path to the bridge root

    (3) OFFERED the lowest sender

    (4) minimum port priority

    (5) the lowest port id.

    So in your senario until number 4 allvalues will be equal and there will be a match tie. So for port breakage id will be used and the port with the higher port number will be blocked and low port id will be in a State of fwding.

    Example:

    If you've been through e1/1 and e1/2 cable on the same switch then 1/1 b in condition of fwding all-in-1/2 will b in the blocking state.

    HTH,

    Kind regards

  • Cannot be the main source of switch - SX80

    Need to switch the main source for video playback instead of send as content. Have several SX-80 s. Some, I am able to switch the main source to the PC Input or camera 2 without problem, others, nothing. I can even see in the preview window for main Source on the page of call control that switches the source, but it does switch not actually for the ends either near or far. I can send any source through the content, but not through primary source. Works and does not work for several versions of software.

    There is a bug that prevents you from changing sources using the web interface call control page, see CSCva64137.  It has fixed in TC7.3.7 and CE8.2.2, which just came out today, Oct. 5.

    Have you considered changing the quality of the input content 'Motion', which gives the highest frame rate possible at the cost of higher resolution.  The default value is 'Sharpness', which gives the highest resolution at the expense of speed.

  • How to change the security policy of a group of distributed in a distributed virtual switch ports?

    Hello

    I am trying to write a Perl script that can modify the security policy of a group of distributed in a distributed virtual switch ports. I can access the values of security policy by using the following:

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > allowPromiscuous-> value

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > forgedTransmits-> value

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > macChanges-> value

    I try to use the method ReconfigureDVPortgroup_Task() of the managed object DistributedVirtualPortGroup. While creating a new instance of DVPortgroupConfigSpec, within the data spec config defaultPortConfig property object there is property of security policy and I couldn't find any other property pointing me to that I can update the security policy. I discovered that it is accessible via defaultPortConfig, stretching from VMwareDVSPortSetting where securityPolicy is a property of VMwareDVSPortSetting.

    What is the way to update? I am bit confused about terminology Extends and extended by and how it relates to the other.

    Concerning

    Akmal

    It is in DVPortgroupConfigSpec, but you will need to use the extended VMwareDVSPortSetting object.

    My $dvpg_spec = new DVPortgroupConfigSpec();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} = new VMwareDVSPortSetting();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} = new DVSSecurityPolicy();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {allowPromiscuous} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {forgedTransmits} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {macChanges} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    You could probably simplify this by getting the config spec VGA and change it before using it in the ReconfigureDVPorgroup_Task() method.
