toolbar AOL took over a program at startup

I read the other thread on this and no help. When I opened 18 FFX a popup appears prompting me to change my AOL Homepage and use AOL Security page program. I did not seek this add-on. I tried many things: I can't use restart FFX because I can't use all the features of the browser with accept them the pop-up offer. Use the Task Manager to stop, but the program restarts with the same pop up. NO AOL program shows in the list of programs in Control Panel to uninstall. Already uninstalled and reinstalled FFX and pop-up cam right now. HELP of mozilla is my favorite browser, but I can not use.

UPDATE
80% to John99 credit a scan of start-up CLE_PRINCIPALE gave me the confidence that nothing really malicious had resumed the comperter. I have an installed Java 39 update. I have counterintuitivly enabled pop AOL to do it's thing (it is expressed in a no weird confidence inspiring way) and refused the request of plugin java 36. Then used the reset FFX to clean up the old data. I just assumed that a uninstall/reinstall would have the same effect. It seems now that I have a clean version of FFX currently running on the computer. I'll then reinstall Java udate and keep an eye what could the aol toolbar in? How it it is still a mystery.

  • A hacker took over my computer, mainly my network is controlled by them. How to get rid of it

    Original title: Hacker

I let a hacker in my computer, tech support imposter, he took over my computer, mainly my network is controlled by them. I use HP Pavilion Home Premium Windows 7, 64-bit sp2 Server 2008r2. Can someone help please?

Your post is a bit confusing.  Windows 7 does not have a "Service Pack 2" and is not the same Windows Server 2008 r2 operating system.

You need to contact all the sites for which you saved in your computer, in particular financial institutions, logon and change your log on credentials.

Backup of all your data first.  Also, before the system recovery, use a keyfinder as Magical JellyBean Keyfinder or Belarc Advisor utility to find any product keys/licenses you will need to reinstall your application programs.

Then you must do a clean install of Windows.  Because you have a CV, a "system recovery", as described here--> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01867418

After the system recovery, uninstall any antivirus software free trial using the tool provided by the manufacturer of the antivirus (trial will have expired).  For a list of these tools, see http://support.eset.com/kb146/?locale=en_US , then you need to install a good antivirus.

After restoring your backup data, analyze all the files with your antivirus software and a program of quality (such Free MalwareBytes AntiMalware) antimalware software before opening any files.

Finally, reinstall your application programs from your original installation media (CD/DVD/downloaded the Installer).

What will happen if I put the security systems that you recommend and add the Norton harder

Wireless routers are great - if you set them right.  Password protect, Protocol, WPA2.

Windows Firewall is not an antivirus.  It prevents people/computers to connect remotely to your computer without your permission.  I'd be willing to bet your firewall disabled Norton - as he was probably 'Internet Security' and not only an Antivirus product (one of the "suites" I mentioned, I would avoid.)

You want to only running antivirus software.

  • Adobe reader icon took all my programs

I open a file with adobe reader and I forgot to uncheck the box that says opening all files with adobe. Now, the adobe reader icon took all my programs and I can't open them more. Is it possible to fix it?

    Thank you

The files "program" on your desktop and menu items are actually of shortcuts (for example, . LNK) files that point to the programs or documents. The fact that they are all 'look' like Adobe is because they have become inadvertently associated with the Adobe program.

I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting Adobe (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the program referenced by the shortcut of origin or document opens in Adobe as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by Adobe and use the Adobe icon to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was initially intended to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop or menu.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc_1_4 for its ease of use.

I would suggest using the UnAssoc utility to remove the stray file association. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on my SkyDrive here.

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new to the default values.
