Hello

1. have you plugged all third-party devices other than the keyboard and mouse?

2 have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Reset Windows Update components and check if that helps.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Warning: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry

Method 2:

Run the system update readiness tool and check if that helps.

Description of the system update tool for Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=947821

Method 3:

Run the scan tool (SFC) System File Checker and check if it helps.

How to use the tool File Checker system to troubleshoot missing or corrupted on Windows Vista system files: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

And also disconnected all external devices except the mouse and keyboard and then try to check for the updates.

Hope the information is useful.

Further investigation indicates the RPC and DCOM service Launcher are grayed out and cannot be started or stoped.   Registry settings look good for the RPC service.  The DCOM service depends on RPC service.  In the GUI at the same time say they are started but from the comand prompt, I run the command net start and neither one is registered as running.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Windows Update stopped working on Vista (Ultimate). Error code is 80070005. Difficulty?

When I go to Windows Update and click on ' Check for updates ', the display shows "Windows could not search for new updates", than he has ever been a check for updates and have never been installed, but the latter is false, as I received it regularly until recently. Of course the possibility to connect to the updates server was lost. A part of the Vista operating system is damaged? Recently, I uninstalled McAfee and installed Norton Internet Security.  Installation of Norton were possibly affecting the ability to receive automatic updates?  What is the solution?

I also get a message that I am not currently connected to any network, but I am actually connected to my home wireless network.  This message seems to have surfaced at same time as issue updates resurfaced.  Any suggestions?  Thank you.

I'm about out of ideas here. Since running the removal of McAfee and then tool reset Windows Update did not solve the problem, this leaves us with only two choices in my humble OPINION:

    1. one or more of the measures of protection in real time from NIS are intefering (assuming that NIS installed & working properly); or...

    2. you see the effects of a hijackware infection.

OPTION A: Contact the Support of Norton (Symantec).

OPTION B: Carried out a thorough for hijackware.

Microsoft PCSafety provides users at home (only) with free assistance in dealing with infections by malicious software such as viruses, adware and spyware (including unwanted software).

    Otherwise...

    1. see if you can download/run the MSRT tool manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not analysis FAST!  You may need to download the MSRT on an uninfected machine and then transfer the MRT. EXE to the infected machine and the rename it, for example, SCAN. EXE, before being able to execute it!

    2. run this online scan (in Safe Mode with networking, if necessary):

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/Center/whatsnew.htm

    3. now after the required logs in an appropriate forum for assistance by an expert in the field. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!

I can recommend the assistance of experts available in these forums: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=10.0, http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5, http://www.dslreports.com/forum/cleanup, http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.phpand http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

Good luck & please keep me on any progress you make.

    doc,

If you receive Windows Update error 800b0100, it means that a file needed by Windows Update is corrupted or missing. System update readiness tool can correct some conditions that can cause this error. To use the tool, follow these steps:

    1. go to the System Update Readiness Tool http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=947821Web page.

Under the "Advanced information for users" section, find the Windows edition and the system type of your computer, and then click the link to download the system update readiness tool. To find your edition of Windows, see view your computer information http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/View-your-computer-information.

    Reset

    2. run Windows Update again.

Note As a general rule, the scan takes 15 minutes or less, but can take longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.

The update system (or CheckSUR) tool is a program that performs a unique analysis for problems that might prevent you from installing updates on your computer. The problem above is one of the conditions that the CheckSUR tool can check and repair.

If the CheckSUR tool encounters problems while running, it records them in a file called CheckSUR.log, located in your Windows, under Logs\CBS\ folder. On a default installation of Windows, this will beC:\Windows\Logs\CBS.

If the problem persists after taking these steps, go to the Microsoft Update Solution Center websitehttp://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527#tab0 to find more information about the error code or to request support by e mail.

    CharlesPyle,

Suggest that you first spread malware as the cause of the problem by following these steps:

    (1) have your system scanned by the antivirus/security suite installed.
    (2) run this tool from Kaspersky: how to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684>

If no malware has been detected, there's a Fixit on this page which will reset the Windows Update components:

How to reset Windows Update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058components >

Suggest you download and Save it. Then, close all the open programs and web browsers.
Run Microsoft Fixit50202.msi and choose its default mode.
After that he finished the race, see if the return code is displayed again when looking for updates.

If not, then run the Fixit once more and choose his Aggressive mode.
Restart once it is finished and see if the return code always appears when the updates.

IF malware is detected, then please post if it has been removed and that the specific name of what has been detected.

  • Orb is blocked at the start of the system on my Vista Ultimate SP2.

    Original title: Orb

    Hello

Orb is blocked at the start of the system on my Vista Ultimate SP2, even if the box is checked in the setup of the system. What could be the reason? And there at - it a danger by unlocking it? If this is not the case, how can I put it so that it hangs every time you start?

    Thank you

    Hello

    1. When you say its blocked, that you get any message or it does not appear at startup?

    2. don't you perform a normal startup or selective startup?

I suggest that you follow the steps below and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

This can be caused by your security software, I would temporarily disable all security software and check if the ORB is blocked.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats.  In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:

If it works, then give exception in Firewall setting for the program.
Orb is a third-party application, and if trust you him, you can add as an exception.
    WARNING OF THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE
