Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 HARD drive freezes computer

I just bought a Toshiba 320 GB USB 2.0 HARD drive and every time I try to transfer the data of light go red after 20 seconds and the computer crashes. The only way I can sort is by turning it off at the wall. The HARD drive works fine via a USB1.0 port and other devices like printers etc joysticks work fine through my USB 2.0 Pci card, but not my HARD drive, any ideas what this could be?
Thank you

Hello

You can also try to use the USB1.0 port. But if you want to use data transfer high, you can try to use the firewire port. Using Firewire USB2 adapter for example.

    Hello

Sorry for my bad English, I'm french.

I have a Satellite A100-551 and original 80 GB SATA HARD disk is dead. It works enough, but there are a lot of mistakes on its surface and the pc go very slow!
    So, I buy another drive.
    This one: [samsung 250 GB | http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/showdetl.cfm?product_id=422226&option=1]

I have install on the pc but when I start the pc freeze.
At startup, there is a moment where a normal message saying that I can access the F2 BIOS with a progressbar for loading.

The freezing of progressbar and nothing else has add.
If I press F2 nothing adds.
    I can't do nothing.

Is it possible to get started with my new HARD drive?

Is there some hard drive not recommended?

    Thanks for your replies.

Strange, but perhaps the new HARD drive is defective or not compatible with your laptop.
Have you tested the new HARD drive in a laptop or in an external HARD drive enclosure? It work?

You can go into the BIOS without HARD drive?
    Check it!

In your case I would use check the HARD drive in another laptop first, and then maybe you should try another of your laptop HARD drive.

    Good luck!

  • How to make Toshiba USB 250 GB HARD drive read-only?

    Hello

I just plug a Toshiba USB 250g external hard drive to replace all the sticks of memory, I've been using.

I'll use this external hard drive to copy files to other computers and I would like to know how to make the drive read-only.

Moreover, all the other tips to protect the disc would be extremely welcome.

I use a Dell with Windows 7 laptop.

    Thank you very much

    Dougal

I don't know what HARD drive you have exactly, but I know that Toshiba offers a software protection with external hard drives.
Did you check manuals? Is something like that provided with your HARD drive?

Maybe you need to use some third party software part for the protection of files on the HARD drive. Google all over the place.

  • Toshiba Canvio single 2 TB external hard drives

I purchased 2 Toshiba Canvio Simple 2 TB external hard drives (there is a 2 weeks and last week one - same products). I found a disk hard fact "beep" sound sometimes (not always) when it is connected to the computer, but the other a dose not make any sound. Could you please tell me if it is defective and needs to be replaced? Thank you very much for your help.

Fact is that during the process of reading and writing the HARD disk head movement could create some noise but it's hard to say if more loud noise seems to indicate a HARD drive problem...

I think that if you know not all this noise, get in touch with the dealer and ask for help...

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.
    See you soon

  • Satellite 2430-101: external USB 2.0 HARD drive problem

    Hello everyone,
I have Toshiba satellite 2430-101. Recently I bought external 40 GB hard drive. When I connected to my toshiba usb hub, it is said that it exceeds the limit of the power, and I need to detach the external hard drive. When I read these last questions, someone suggested to uncheck the power supply to the usb hub options, but he says always the same. They are someone to help me.
    Concerning
    Sri

    Hello

Well, in my opinion, this problem occurs if the USB port can't provide enough power.
In this case, that the USB hub must be connect to external power.

    Good bye

  • TOSHIBA StorE Art 2 TB external hard drive not recognized by HP Elite /Win7

I have a new HP Elite desktop computer running Windows 7 Home Edition:
A few months ago, I bought a Toshiba Store Art HDD Ext 2 to, which until today has worked well. Today, I started the PC in the morning (with no updates of Windows or other software) to find that he would recognize is no longer the Toshiba hard drive. He always recognizes the WD drives and SimpleTech drives when they are plugged. All external drives are powered separately and do not rely on the power of USB.

I tried the Art Store on other PC and it works fine. I tried to change the cables, the cable works on other players (and other cables will not do this work of Art store). I tried several ports USB 2 on the PC, with no luck * (but all the ports work with other readers).

I try verified Drvivers of COMPUTERS and MANAGING disks. There is no sign of the disk (not defective disc), it is simply not there at all.

I searched on the web - try a variety of techniques (disconnect the power PC) and much more. No luck.

    PC specifications are:
    Operating system
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit SP1
    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Intel Core i3 530 2.93 GHz 30 ° c.
    Technology of 32nm Clarkdale

    Optical drives
Device USB WD virtual CD 1110
    HP DVD-RAM GH60L
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio

Works well with all other readers. and it worked with Toshiba until this morning.

    Clues?

    Thank you

I put t really know what can be the problem.
If everything worked a few days previously, first try to make back the OS using System Restore tool just to see if this will help.

  • Windows Vista does not recognize external USB 260 GB HARD drive

I have a 260 GB Seagate external hard drive, a laptop Toshiba satellite and Windows Vista Basic.

The same Windows usually choose the hard drive when I plug it, it does not appear in Device Manager and in disk management, the only way I can get it to work is to uninstall all the USB root hub and then restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB root hub and plug my hard drive.

When windows finally recognizes him, the only way to find the driver must choose c:\ manually and there's the search for the computer.
Works for the time that I have the computer hard disk, but when I stopped it, next time I use the computer, I'm having exactly the same problem.

I tried to remove the hard drive safely and then close the computer and by him plugging back in after windows has loaded, I tired it connected from the computer and tried to close the computer with connected.

    None of these work.
    Can someone help me please?

    Strange?  :|
But what need s say Microsoft Windows so I don't expect 100% without bug OS ;)

Disconnect the USB HDD and remove all the USB ports and Device Manager USB controllers. After restarting again the OS should reinstall ports. Then you could try to reconnect the HARD drive.

  • Satellite M30X: Problems with external USB 2.0 HARD drive

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30X. I bought recently a 200 GB external hard drive. It has its own power supply. If I connect with USB 2.0 on my laptop, it happens to disconnect and reconnect leads him. Sometimes it works, so I can put data on the disc. Then again, he diconnects and reconnects repeatedly. I've tried a different USB Port, but there is no difference. It's very strange, because I plugged the external hard drive to many other computers (Laptop and Tower) and it STILL works! It is that with my cell phone, it disconnects and reconnects all the time. As I said, not always. Sometimes it works for a half an hour or two and then the action begins again...

    If anyone can help?
    Oxford Lutz

    Hello

I put t know if this can help, but you can try to connect a USB hub with an external power supply. Then try to connect this external HARD disk to the USB hub.
I know that it of not a exactly the solution but maybe it will help you to solve this problem of USB.

  • Toshiba Satellite S50 - A - is dead HARD drive?

Hello.. I hope I can get some answers from other owners of S50 - A or least maybe a tech?... are these discs defective or only supposed to last two years so you get out of your wallet again so Toshiba infiltrates the money from you?

My father bought this laptop for me for the College and school so I can work and play at the same time it's about 2 years old...

    Model of care &: S50 - A Satellite, model # PSKKEC - 00G 007 - Intel i5 - Geforce GTX A 740 m - to-SATA 1.

2 years... Since purchasing computers laptops are pretty perfect, I have done regular upward Dungeon defragments hard-ware/anti virus scans and every quarter I ran across a sweep of care system advanced... everything was fine.

The only games I play quite a lot on this laptop is counter-strike Global Offensive by H1Z1... a week ago, I was on teamspeak and it said that I had a driver error and tells me to restart, I did... and that's where it went all down hill...

I had a lot of mistakes, lack of funds etc., tried to do a reset from the pc, is not called zero also tried to try a restore of the system without success... hard disk started vibrating and making a 'written' sound (as the disc has been actively writing incredibly fast..) it was so distorted, I couldn't save any recent stuff... (last back up I did was about 3-4 months before)... no all my photos & academic materials are uploaded to servers online, so I was Biggie don't like meh, whatever... I listen to music on spotify so care to lose all that.

My only option was to format the disk and do a clean install... what worked for one week... was able to update all my drivers download/install geforce experience and my anti virus program, log in to my school credentials and downloaded steam... everything was going a lot and yesterday after a session of one hour of h1z1 I quit the game and when I tried to open my browser google chrome that nothing answered, the button start to reset would not answer the computer literally just does not react anymore than all...

Forced a restart and got bsod - unmountable_boot_volume - entered the command... prompt he says pretty well sound replacing each bad cluster known to man... nothing was fixed/repaired... do you have a chkdsk c:/r/f and got this - an unspecified error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1

I am ready to throw in the towel on this... I guess that Toshiba gives a 1 year warranty on all hardware related Articles?... so there is no point in calling me to and ship unless I want to pay an arm and one leg for another 1 TB sata-one that will only last another 2 years?... or should I go to some place local tech and get them to install a crucial 2.5 "500 GB SSD?

People of any options?... I am open for them.

    Thanks for reading,

    See you soon.

    HARD drive seems defective.
SSD is a good choice, but avoid those that use a starforce controller, since they have more problems than others.
The Intel and Samsung SSD seem to be the most compatible.
