Toshiba L300D - Vista - invalid key

I completely formatted and reinstalled my laptop the month last using the product key that was given to me with the laptop when I bought a refurb from PC World several years ago. I was given a CD key and OEM product ID.
Yesterday windows told me the product key was invalid and that I had to buy a new or correct entry. He wouldn't let me put in the OEM number, so I used the other, who has worked in the past. He said that this is not a valid code and went to the background screen black screen with text background just say that this is not a genuine version of windows.
I don't know the two buttons I have are correct, that they are the one that I've been running with during about 6 years since I have the laptop. It is however the first time I reinstalled from format the entire drive.
Please help, this laptop is essential for everyday use.

"Product ID" is in fact not so relevant.
What is important is the "Product Key" (CD key or, if you prefer).
which consists of 25-character alphanumeric, subdivided in 5 sets each 5 characters long.

From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811224/en:
Note A product key is not a product ID (PID) number. A PID is created after a product is correctly installed. PIDs are used by the Microsoft Customer Service to help identify the product when customers call for support.

The key of product in use on your computer is a 'OEM SLP key',

which is only valid for a specific combination of drive installation and material.

Specifically, you will need to use the recovery media provided by the manufacturer,

which, if used properly, shouldn't you demand the key to product in the first place.

If you used a generic Windows Vista installation disc,

were for one reason or another outfit to provide the product key after installation.

You must use the product key printed on your COA (certificate of authenticity).

    (10) the next screen provides the number to call to activate by phone

NOTE: when you call this number, you will first hear an automatic voice who will try to activate Vista for you. If the automated voice gives you an option to speak to a representative of Activation Live, select this option. If this is not the case, do not enter all the numbers. This should force the voice automated transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. trying to activate through the automated voice will not work, in your case, your Activation will be successful only through the Live Activation Rep.

  • Windows Vista activation key is invalid.

We've had this laptop for about 3 years now.  We recently had to take in our repair guy and he re-installed Windows Vista for us.  The laptop worked great since then (several weeks) until the end of last week.

We started getting a pop up notice to activate Windows.  I was hesitant to click on it until I could talk with our guys from the computer.  In the meantime our wallpaper would disappear anytime we stop or restart the machine.  Then this morning when I started the computer upwards the lower right got the message: "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 this copy of Windows is not genuine".

I called our repair guy and he said that happens sometimes with a re - install.  He said to go and activate Windows.  When I do, before I even get to a place to enter the activation key, the box that opens shows "Windows Vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation".

It follows with the options: "Buy a new product key online", "Type a different product key" or "Contact Microsoft to help solve this problem."  I chose the second option, using the product key on the bottom of our machine and got the message "the product key you entered is not a valid Windows Vista product key.  Please check your product key, and then type it again. "I checked the key and spruced up and got the same message.

Can someone help me please understand what is the problem and how to fix it?  Or at least provide a way to talk to a living person as the "Contact Microsoft to help solve this problem" option in my head of activation window me to a page that had me trying to activate, which opened in the same window that I had already opened.

So, after all the time that I spent to fight with this problem and check and recheck the product key, it seems I should actually check the prescription of glasses - I was confused with a 'B' for '8 '.  Once I typed the key * correctly * everything was fine.  I even restarted my computer twice to be sure that all "stuck".  Sheesh, I feel stupid.

    Thanks for your help. :-)

  • I get 'Invalid key' when you install Windows XP SP3 Home Edition from a CD at retail and used the OEM key

I restore an HP Pavilion computer and try to install Windows XP Home Edition, with the button on the side of the computer.  I contacted HP and they no longer have an available for this computer recovery CD.  So, I tried to install a copy of Windows XP Edition retail family, but when I enter the OEM product key I get "invalid key".  I read on this forum that you can not mix the OEM disc/keys with detail, but it seems that I don't have to buy another copy of Windows when it came with my computer.  What choices do I have?

    None!

So I don't Support HP and Microsoft no help either.  Activation Center asked me to call the Department of parts (which is incorrect) and the parts Department told me that they cannot provide Windows which was distributed by HP!  Microsoft changed this start with Vista, so I do not understand why they are always telling customers that.

    Hello

You can use this Recovery Partition to reinstall Vista to his new condition with the right edition of Vista.

This recovery partition was photographed on your hard drive by HP during the manufacturing of the factory.

You press F11 on startup to start the process of recovering back to factory settings.

Here is the information about HP.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?DocName=c00809678&LC=en&DLC=en&cc=us&product=18703

If the recovery partition is damaged, you can buy HP's Vista recovery discs for a small fee.

If HP's Vista recovery disks, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.
