  I have a problem with my external hard shore, it is a Toshiba Store.e Canvio 1 TB, HDTC610EW3B1.
  It works fine on my old Macbook running the Mavericks but now on my new Macbook Pro retina running on Yosemite, it will not appear anywhere.
  I checked with disk utility, and it does not, also not appearing is not on the USB in system preferences.

  I got a Toshiba Stor.E Canvio for about 2 years without problems

  By using the external drive recently and the USB cable is removed accidentally. After attempting to connect the USB on my Mac again once the external HARD drive does not appear in the Finder.

  Passing through the disk utility, the hard drive is visible, but I am unable to check or repair the disk.

  The message I get is

  "Peut-t disk utility repair this disk. "Save as many files as possible, reformat the drive and restore your backed up files.

  The HARD drive itself is turned on, the light is on... but I'm stuck now

  Any help would be appreciated

  Hi there, after you fix the issue I had with my Macbook Pro using an extension cable USB 2 drive decided to stop working suddenly and will not be displayed in Lion

  The player will turn up then click loudly, spin up and click loudly and will continue to do this until you disconnect (wonder if I have damaged the drive now?)

  I have no idea why, but lives in the USB 2.0 port provides only 500mA USB 3.0 port provides up to 900mA
  Then maybe you will need to use a USB cable to Y which allows to connect you the HARD drive to 2 USB 2.0 ports

  I use a Mac app, have formatted for Mac OS extended (journaled). I want to put 4 partitions on the disk as its to use for the backup.

  However, when I try to partition through disk utility, it gives the following error

  Start by:

  Reset the PRAM and NVRAM on your Mac.

  Start in Safe Mode , and then re - start normally. It's slower that a normal start, so be patient.

  If you are unable to start;

  Reinstall El Capitan without erasing the drive

  Please make sure that you back up.

  2. Select disk utility, then click on the continue button.
  3. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) entry of the volume in the list aside.

  6. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

When I arrived, I was told by the store manager that someone has my mac technician pro beep delete request data, and the technician just did without question on proof of ownership. WHILE THE LAPTOP WAS A SOUND SIGNAL INDICATING MY NAME AND MY PASSWORD! It is of course to see this mac is stolen, however, the technician and the Manager just erasing the data and let the thief! The only thing they suggested is to report to the police. I can't imagine that such a thing has happened in the store! Very weird thing! Looks like this store is convenient enough for thieves!

  Try restarting mode without failure. To restart in safe mode, restart the computer and press on and hold down the SHIFT key until the Apple icon appears. The computer starts more slowly than usual because the disk utility checks the drive. After getting on the desktop launch the App store and try to connect.   If you have used any other processor of professional quality (for example, Microsoft Word), and then just go ahead and use the current culture of free (financially) applications on devices you mention. It will not take too long before you understand point Apple of giving them. No application in the world can open documents Pages but the most recent version.

  Free will begin to erode when Pages for Mac forget how to open a perfectly fine document that you saved an hour or two ago. Or you realize you have to press the SHIFT key every time you want a first word in a sentence. Or you can not bind the text boxes to the text layout advanced stream. Or you can't do data merge / e-mail. Table of contents page links or comments will not export to PDF.

  Pages is not a clone of Word, and you'll quickly realize that Pages input/export deal with the translation. Open a blank document. Type the letter "A". Export to Word .docx. It will be 494KO in size. Do the same thing in LibreOffice or MS Word and it will be 8 KB.
