Toshiba Store Art 2.5 "500 GB - extremely slow

Hello

my hard drive the Art nouveau department store seems to be
(a) extremely slow when seeking, and
(b) slows down the entire operating system.

I tried on two different computers, both running with xp sp3.
My very old USB hard drive is 100 x faster than :-(

I have no idea what to do to resolve this behavior, I started to think of returning the product to the retailer :-/

Thank you
Peter

    Hello

I recently bought this Toshiba STOR. E basics 1 TB USB 3.0 HDTB110EK3BA and it's extremely slow, taking already about 48 h for a copy of less than 100 GB.
I am formatting it Mac Os more and using a Mac Book Pro with USB3

    Why is this happening?

    Thank you

    Why data transfer is slow?
Who knows there are several reasons for this, you will need to check some things just to get a response for this

Fact is that this HARD drive supports the USB 3.0 standard.
This means that the HARD disk works with USB 3.0 performance (~ 130 MB/s)

Still is it HARD USB 3.0 drive needs more energy than the common USB 2.0 HDD.
900mA needs of USB 3.0, USB 2.0 HARD drive must 500mA
That is why its recommended to connect the HARD drive to two USB 2.0 ports using the USB Y cable.

However the speed of data transmission can be limited to the laptop (chipset).
Maybe your internal HARD drive provides more performance for transmitting data to the external HARD drive.

I read some tests on this HARD drive, and many users got the great performance.
With the help of USB 2.0 ports: 31.8 MB/sec in writing; 31.5 MB/s read
    using USB 3.0 ports: 105,45 MB/sec in writing; 108,89 MB/s read

I recommend you install Disk as ATTO Benchmark tools to check performance using another computer.

  • Toshiba Store Art 4 USB 3.0 1 TB works not with USB3.0 or USB 2.0 port

    Hello
I have a big problem with my external hard drive and I hope someone can help me.

    Here's the thing:

I used my external drive only on computers that don't have any port usb 3 and all worked well. The drive has been used only with usb ports 2.

Now, I got a computer with a usb port 3 and I was happy to be able to use my external hard drive at full speed.
Has been fine until I wanted to transfer a file using my drive.

The disc has been recognized either of usb ports 2. The NTFS partition is a partition BRUTE! I had to ' chkdisk/f G:' to make it work again on my usb ports 2. And some files were missing!

Then, back on my other computer (usb port 3), the contents were not the same! I mean some of the files that I deleted when it is plugged into usb 2 returned when plugged usb ion 3! And then, back to the usb 2, partition became RAW and I had ' chkdisk/f G:'... once again!

So, to make it as simple as possible, after some testing, it seems that the drive can only be used on the usb ports 2-only on ports usb 3 but can not be used at a time, which is very annoying for a portable external hard drive.

I tried to format the drive to my usb port 2 and return on the usb port 3, the content came as if I had never formatted it and then back on the usb port 2, the RAW score again...

I use Windows 7 and 8.1 Windows computers.

Someone at - it experience that? What is the drive (Toshiba Store Art 1 TB USB3 4)? What is the USB 3 specification? Is - Windows 7 or 8.1 drivers?
And above all: what can I do?

    Thank you very much!

This external plug & play Toshiba HDD supports two USB standards: USB 3.0 and USB 2.0
HARD drive around needs bus power 900mA to work correctly.

The USB 3.0 port supports this standard 900mA. The USB 2.0 port allows only to 500mA.
If in case the HARD disk is not working properly connected to the USB 2.0 port, I recommend you to use a USB cable to Y in order to connect the 2 ports USB 2.0 HARD disk.

I have no idea why the content on the HARD drive is different, but from my point of few of the USB standard does not affect content.

In my opinion, the HARD drive wasn't working properly using a USB 2.0 due to the low power.

By the way: this HARD drive supports some additional features like the ability to oversight function and monitor to alert of the disk space that sends a alert when there is not enough available storage space.

For advanced users, Toshiba has added the ability to customize the backup routine, including the ability to select only the most common file types for backup and change how many times a backup takes place.

  • TOSHIBA StorE Art 2 TB external hard drive not recognized by HP Elite /Win7

I have a new HP Elite desktop computer running Windows 7 Home Edition:
A few months ago, I bought a Toshiba Store Art HDD Ext 2 to, which until today has worked well. Today, I started the PC in the morning (with no updates of Windows or other software) to find that he would recognize is no longer the Toshiba hard drive. He always recognizes the WD drives and SimpleTech drives when they are plugged. All external drives are powered separately and do not rely on the power of USB.

I tried the Art Store on other PC and it works fine. I tried to change the cables, the cable works on other players (and other cables will not do this work of Art store). I tried several ports USB 2 on the PC, with no luck * (but all the ports work with other readers).

I try verified Drvivers of COMPUTERS and MANAGING disks. There is no sign of the disk (not defective disc), it is simply not there at all.

I searched on the web - try a variety of techniques (disconnect the power PC) and much more. No luck.

    PC specifications are:
    Operating system
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit SP1
    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Intel Core i3 530 2.93 GHz 30 ° c.
    Technology of 32nm Clarkdale

    Optical drives
Device USB WD virtual CD 1110

Works well with all other readers. and it worked with Toshiba until this morning.

  • Re: Toshiba Store Art Exteranal 320 HARD drive not recognized

    Hello

I have a problem with my 320 GB Toshiba Store Art HDD Exteranal.
I bought it a week ago and everything worked well on different systems: Win 7 (64), Vista (32), XP Pro.
But today when I tried to use it it displays a message that * unrecognized device * and it cannot install the driver for this device.

Unfortunately there are no drivers to download for this device drivers Toshiba page.
I checked it on Win 7 (64) and Vista (32) - same problem.
I remember, the last time that I used it was on XP Pro.

I checked the internet for a solution, but in the end I had to write a message here.

    Hope for more help.

    > I bought a week ago and everything worked well on different systems: Win 7 (64), Vista (32), XP Pro.
    > But today when I tried to use it it displays a message this device not recognized and it cannot install the driver for this device.

If the HARD drive worked perfectly in the past without the use of drivers, then I guess that this has nothing to do with a missing driver.

In your case I would recommend to check and test the HARD disk on another computer/laptop running a Win XP or Vista.

If the drive HARD wouldn't connect and would not be functioning with the help of other computers, then a hardware problem is possible

PS: this external USB hard drives are Plug & Play compatible and so a pilot should not be necessary!

  • Toshiba STOR. Download of base E driver

I have a Toshiba STOR. E BASIC 500 GB hard disk external. I plugged on an old laptop and it automatically installs its self and worked well, I managed to put all my files on to. I then connected on a laptop more recent (Windows 7) to do the same thing, but it could not install automatically the good diver.

I followed the suggestions 'help' and checked my computer setting can automatically search for and install updates, but still no luck. I manually install the driver from the website, but I put t understand all the options. I have to select for the product I own.

Can someone tell me or suggest another method that might work?

All these external drives are generally of plug and devices play so the correct driver should be installed automatically after minute or two connected device is recognized correctly and you see in Windows Explorer.

We don t know this laptop configuration more recent, but if everything is installed correctly including all the drivers, I think that your external HARD drive should be detected properly.
You can test it on another laptop or desktop PC just to see if the same thing happens again?

  • I want to set a password for the Toshiba StorE Art3 500

    Dear Sirs,

Toshiba storE Art3 500 GB external hard drive, I bought and I have the following problem: I would firstly a password for opening, but hard drive ever asks me the password.

Pls let me know what I need to do that he asks me a password for opening of the disc, or when you open the files stored.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi mate

AFAIK the Toshiab STOR. E ART 3, 2.5 "includes pre-loaded® NTI BackupNow EZ Software.
    http://www.nticorp.com/en/us/product/backup_now_ez.asp

This software helps you secure and back up data. It provides a system and file & folder backup complete.

It seems that only the backup can be secured with data encryption and protection of password (up to 256 - bit).

  • Toshiba Store E TV 3.5 "500 GB PA4208E-1HE0 - no visible files

I have an external USB HARD drive MODEL: PA4208E-1HE0 Toshiba Store E TV 3.5 "500 GB Multi Media Player and I can not see my files to.
Is it possible that I can use to get back them?

When I view the drive in 'my computer' it shows that there is data, but when I open it, there is nothing

    Hello moeketsisehloho,

It is not possible to record with the TV store.
There are 4 files (music, Photos, videos, Toshiba) default settings.
If you plug the TV StorE on your computer and you can´t see these files, I think you have removed the.
That you have set the TV to the default store or create this 4 files manually.
I suggest to format the TV store front. The way to do it, you can find in the manual on page 18.
Then you should be able to copy the files to the TV store.
If you can´t see the menu, if the TV store is connected by HDMI to the TV, I think you need to bring the TV StorE to a partner of Service allowed next to you.

    Best regards

  • Location for cable is broken on partner Toshiba Stor.E

    Hello

I have an external drive of 500 GB Toshiba Stor.E partner and the location where you put the usb cable is broken.
Can I order this part separately? I opened the folder and there is a small card that converts USB to power in S - ata. This card can be replaced?

    Kind regards
    Erik

As far as I know these parts cannot be ordered. To be sure of that, you can contact the closest service Toshiba and ask if something like this is possible.

If the HARD disk is OK I think you can buy another 2.5 box and put the HARD drive inside.

  • Toshiba Stor.E Basics 2.5 ": how to get rid of the folder lang

    Hey there.

So I have this external hard drive 500 GB Toshiba Stor.E Basics 2.5 " , bought a year in Italy.
I use it on a MacBook with a few apps, so it works perfectly well.

But the thing is there is this "lang" folderwith a subfolder of separate for each language (more a subfolder "resources"), which takes almost 28 GB of storage capacity, although it is completely empty. When I try to delete it, it doesn't let me, I get a message "file X is used" (where 'X' represents the subfolders).

So I would like to know if there is a way to get rid of this file, as 28 GB are not exactly redundant.

    Thanks in advance! =)

According to the disc specification page HARD (basic Stor.E); the quick start guide, as well as operating manuals was preinstalled.
But I doubt that these documents should 28 GB of storage. So I think that some of your applications created the mentioned language folder, including subfolders.

Usually, you must close the application that uses the files so you can easily remove the single folder. But in some cases, it may not be clear which program or a background process has locked a file or a folder.
In this case, you can use a software free ware / tools to unlock the stubborn folder to change or remove.

The software (for windows) called Unlocker is able to unlock the file, and then you could remove it properly.

  • Toshiba stor.e 1 TB HARD drive no longer works

    Hi all

I have a new Toshiba stor.e 1 TB HARD drive and was transfer photos and music to it and all was fine, I ejected it but when I plugged it back I get the message:

    F: is not accessible
    Data error (cyclic recovery control)

A quick search and it says that run cmd and chkdsk but that simply says:

The type of the file system is RAW
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives

    Please can someone help?

    Thank you

According to the article in the Microsoft Knowledge base, the data error (cyclic redundancy check) - indicates that the operating system has found a car with bad sectors or some other intermittent problem.

In my opinion, you should go to disk management and check if the external HARD disk is listed:

    -> Panel-> administration-> computer management tools--> disk management

If his list, you can change the file RAW to NTFS format
Then you can perform a chkdsk command.

But you lose the data, change the file format.

As far as I know, using the command: + convert DriveLetter: /fs:ntfs + (drive letter + should be replaced with the drive letter of the USB HDD) should not lead to data loss
