Toshiba Tecra 8000 300 Mhz - CPU extensible?

Hello

I have a tecra tohiba 8000 with a 300 Mhz Intel PII processor.
Can I upgrade the CPU to 366 or 400 Mhz?

Best regards

Hello Homer,

Sorry, but you cannot upgrade this processor!

Also 66 or 100 Mhz more aren't a huge speed advantage, so it is not profitable!

For more speed you coould update your RAM of 256 MB.

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000, there is a green line with a width of 1 pixel on the screen of my laptop which does not disappear. the laptop is almost 2 years old. is there a possibility that it could be repaired? Thanks in advance,
    Mark Kuiper

    Hello

interesting would be if the green line is permanently on the screen during startup or 'just' that Windows runs.

But never mind, the laptop Tecra series three-year warranty.

So in this case you can give it to a Toshiba repair for a control center upward.

    Hello

The material must be able to handle the Windows XP but I think that you will not find the Toshiba XP drivers for this device.
Therefore, it will be very difficult to run Notepad with all Toshiba Tecra 8000 features.

However, I think that it of possible to install Windows XP but the operating system will not work with maximum efficiency.

  • Upgrade RAM and disk on Tecra 8000

    I have a toshiba tecra 8000 p2 266 mhz, 64 MB, 6 GB HD.

My question is I want to upgrade the ram and hard drive. can someone tell me what is the maximum I can put in my laptop. IM aiming for a 256 RAM and 40 GB HARD drive... I want to upgrade the processor, but I don't think it would be possible. If Yes please let me know what is the maximum.

    Thank you guys

    Hello

I found information that your device can handle with max 256 MB and compatible module unit Pentium II are:
    PA2060U 32 MB
    PA2061U 64 MB
    PA2062U 128 MB

For user who have the Pentium III unit I'll also post this compatible module are:
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)
    PC100 32 MB (PA3003U)

HARD drive upgrade is always a little more problematic because of the maximum capacity that will be recognized correctly, but I assume you can use up to 20 GB of HARD disk without problem.
Sorry, but I didn? t find accurate information about it.

  • Tecra 8000: monitor and the HARD disk does not work - does not start

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000 given to me the year last by my uncle. I live in England, but it is and bought the PC in Italy. I do not know if this causes complications, but I thought it may be useful.

Since I got it it occasionally did not display any image of all system startup, so if I have given some time and restarted it would start working again. Happening of bagan more frequently and now I can't make it work. I have conections and found that everything was in place. Then he doesn't seem to be turning on, however when I replaced the front LED cable seems to be turning on and although I couldn't hear much the CPU was luminous heat. I opened the drive and it gave once more, succeeded him and he still wouldn't start. I had purchased and replaced the screws on the heatsink around this area but I did not handle it with many other things.

So now, I have a monitor that does not work and a gard drive that won't start... Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Could be either the card mother, CPU or ram. The processor when it goes bad or is not locked in place (have had this before, install the CPU but forgot to turn the lock, so he cannot move) the computer will act as its startup, don't give any error and stay on a black screen. Verify that the processor is locked in place. Then remove the ram and try a stick of RAM that runs on another computer. If you try the RAM and the processor do not always start, then chances are your motherboard is dead and must be replaced. Hope this helps and that solve you the problem.

  • Tecra 8000 does not start after the BIOS update

From one day to the other does not start my Tecra 8000 (400 MHz/256 MB BIOS 9.30 for years). After start-up, the disc starts to turn, but the screen including the backlight remains completely black, without red logo TOSHIBA BIOS is not accessible.

I got a new mainboard on stock, so I replaced it, and it worked. Unfortunately now my WLAN card now did not work properly. I tried several settings of the BIOS with no results, so I decided to do an update of the BIOS from 7.50 to 9: 30. After the upgrade, I get the message "ROM WRITE successful, utility completed. LEADER BIOS: Tecra8000 v 9,30 ". Because what either kept silent, I pressed the power button to restart and heard a long and many short beeps (endless). I could interrupt what pressing the powerbutton for 5s.

After turning on again I have the same problem as described in the first line :-( I can't get into the BIOS, but I can again update (with pressed F12). Once again these beeps.

What to do with these beeps after average BIOS update? I replaced the MoBo connector LED with pension. Processor, memory, keyboard and HD has remained the same. So, before I start disassembling the machine, please notify, your help is very appreciated.

    Hello Joachim

I'm not a technician and don t know what the beeps but I am afraid that the BIOS chip is damaged. Because of this, the unit is completely dead. Sorry, but I really don t believe you can do anything. Maybe the new motherboard again :(

  • Tecra 8000 - installation of update of the BIOS & XP or ME?

I got the task of sorting of a s laptop Tecra 8000 a friend who is completely riddled with spyware and viruses. After killing most of the infections I backed up what I have to and decided the best course of action is a reconstruction of the BONE.

I don't know what operating system to suggest that it installs. Will install and make ME use Win98 drivers or if this is not recommended (I have no experience with ME)?
XP would be a better choice with its own pilots (reading the posts on here that SP2 causes slowdowns well)?
Either the OS above with a Bios Update will be necessary? If so the update of the Bios from 9, 30-trad does not require a 500 MHz + processor? The Bios will tell me the CPU speed?
I found information on how to install the updates to the Bios; I just check that I can install the 9.30 - trad on a Tecra 8000 with a processor more low spec?

    Thank you very much
    JBW

I installed the trad 9.30 on my tecra 8000 233 mhz without problem. European downloads have the 500 mhz different bios updates voor and lower. The trad version is for lower versions.
The American downloadsite have only 1 bios, the 9: 30 for all machines.
It confused me, so I took the trad 9.30 which is safe for all machines under 500 mhz.

Good luck... not to mention that I installed winxp pro on it and it runs smooth, I only dissabeld a large number of services that run in the background that wheren can't used to free the memory.

  • Tecra 8000: battery not charging

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000 works excellently on the radio but cannot get a battery charge! I have 2 new batteries, but when I go to power options it says battery not detected. However if you pass the sector off the power the computer will run on battery for a few minutes.

Is that all I have to do to recharge the battery because it denies services to broadband radio if I can't charge the battery.

    Thank you in anticipation

    Roy Drysdale

    Hello Roy

As much as I know there is no any kind of parameters for the battery. Everything works automatically and power of electronic power control controls this. Software gets some info from the hardware store.

If the battery is not recognized by the system, I'm afraid, there is not much to do and the unit must be checked by the service of the laptop.

  • Screen on my Tecra 8000 resolution

    Ok..

I have a toshiba tecra 8000 laptop with windows xp.

The pc started the bad resolution with 800 x 600, (I had black spaces next to my screen, all parties) so I turned it in windows for 1024 x 768 whitch works perfectly. Now the screen is completely filled with urz... screen :)

    But...

It seems to only be changed in windows. When I start a game or another program, it starts in a small 800 x 600 (?) or some other resolution and leash areas black. When I start the laptop, the resolution is also bad (u see back (?) of text from somewhere near the middle of the screen) is changed in windows :(

How can I solve this problem (if it has something to do with the bios or something... hope you can tell me how to fix this!

    I would be very happy

  • Video output port does not work on Tecra 8000

My Toshiba Tecra 8000 screen has cracked and I realized this was a video output port, but it does not work.

    Can someone help me?

    Hello

What video output port can you hear? The VGA port or the output port RCA-video? In both cases, the external display you seek, should give a picture.
If this isn't the case, it should at least be configurable in windows.

Please specify your question and tell more details on exactly what you want.

  • Tecra 8000: Desk Station V + chipset/HDD on Debian Linux?

    Hello!

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a desk Station V, currently under Debian Linux.
The HARD drive I have in my docking station is functional, but very slow (and I know that's not the drive itself, it works very well in another computer). I can't seem to activate the DMA ("' HDIO_SET_DMA failed: operation not permitted", is it still possible for hard disks anchored? "), but it works with one internal.

The HD internal (had) gets pretty decent speeds, but externally (hde) works at a snail's pace:

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm-t/dev/hda
    / dev/hda:
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 14 MB to 4.94 seconds = 2.83 MB / sec

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm t/dev/hde
    / dev/hde:
Calendar reads disc in the buffer: 2 MB in 3.92 seconds = 522,50 kB / sec

Any suggestions? A fact, anyone know if the Desk Station V requires any configuration of chipset/IDE controller or support?

    Thanks for any help whatsoever.

    Hello

As much as I know the Station V Plus office devoted additional features to Enhanced Port Replicator II as follows:
a PCI/ISA bus and a bus PCI expansion slots, a Bay 5 inches.
a selectable Bay and a built-in SCSI-2 (Small Computer System Interface) controller.
I also found information on the net that the Desk Station V plus supports also only the UDMA2.

Well, I think that the internal interface for laptop is a bit faster than the DSV.

  • Tecra 8000 - question on wireless

    Hello

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000. I want to connect to broadband wireless set up in my house. Can someone please advise me as to what the hardware needs of my machine to allow me to do this? Do I need a wireless card? Also I would be grateful any recommendation for exact hardware products to buy - to ensure that they are compatible with my device.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

I agree with the previous user. For your good old classic, the best solution is to use a PCMCIA WLAN card. You can find many different products on the market, and the best thing you can do is to talk with your local dealer. Inform you about all the products. I hope that you will choose the right one.

  • Tecra 8000: Question about the possibility of upgrade

I have a tecra 8000 with a pentium 2 300 mhz processor and I was wondering if it would be up to class? any help would be appreciated thanks.

    Hello

Well, in general it is not possible to upgrade the CPU because the cpu is fixed and soldered on the motherboard. But sometimes the CPU is only mated. I'm not sure about this device, but as far as I know, this device was shipped with Pentium II 400 233 MHz, 333 MHz and 400 MHz Dixon.
But if you want to upgrade the CPU to change many other parts because the plu processor produce more heat and this process can cause overheating problems.
So if you want you can request the service of Toshiba for details.
