Total physical memory and the total virtual memory

Hello

When I checked the repressive information of my laptop computer on which Windows XP SP3 installed, I discovered that RAM is of approximately:

Total physical memory: 2.048 MB
Available physical memory: 1.32 GB

Total virtual memory: 2 GB
Total available memory: 1.96 GB

As this screen shot in Arabic shows:

I don't really know what mean these four memories.

It would be very much appreciated

Physical memory is actual RAM that is installed inyour PC is fast enough with respect to access to the data

Virtual memory is not physical in terms that you can't touch it or remomve it. Vitutal is a section of hard disk space unused which is used on-site for faster physical memory that your PC does not have memory.

Because the hard drive is slower interms of access data to physical memory, your PC will see improved performance by adding or replacing existing physical memory with amounts more or more (512 MB or more)

Virtual memory allows your computer to always run, but at a slower speed when you run applications that have used all of the physical memory. Remember, even before starting a program already running the operating system and other services which each allocate a block of physical memory for themselves. You can see exactly how much is used by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and display of the process tab and the performance tab.

You can easily determine what your need to add to your PC memory by visiting a site like Crucial.com which allows you to scan your pc for the type of memory used.

  • Physical size and the type of disk hard drive in my XPS M1210?

Hi, for the first time poster here. I'm about to buy a new hard drive to replace the original one in my XPS M1210. I just need to know the physical size (3.5 "? 2.5"? etc) and type (7200 rpm or something else?) of him so I don't know the correct type to buy and replace by.

The physical size of the SATA hard drive is, 9.5 MM x 2.5 ", either 5400 or 7200 RPM works perfectly.

  • Difference between the workstation and the machines virtual ESXi?

Apart from convert vmdk of thin thickness oversupply, what exactly does the download feature in WS 8 and later versions do, vs, simply by making a copy + paste of the virtual machine to the machine running Workstation in the ESXi data store?

Besides, why Upload even converts vmdk of thin thickness providing? You can create native thin disks configured in ESXi is not as if ESXi does not support the feature...

VMware Workstation is not (cannot) use a provisioning. The hard format is a fragmented file format that contains metadata about the blocks of data used in the file itself. This format is not supported with ESXi, and this is why it must be converted.

  • Suggestion on Vcenter DB migration on the new virtual machine and enhancement vcenter server

    Hello

I'm looking for any suggestion/plan with Vcenter DB migration steps towards the new virtual machine, and then upgrade the server vcenter

    4.1 for Update1/2

    My plan will be

    (1) creating new virtual machine.

    (2) fresh install 64-bit OS

    (3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.

    (4) upgrade to Vcenter Server 4.1 update 41 4.1 Update1/2

Anything else missing then please let me know.

    Thank you

    vmguy

    Hi vmguy

    I agree with this approach

    (3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.

As long as you leave the old DB in tact and simply detach and copy the DB to the new Victoria Cross.

Before you run the upgrade on the new VC and DB.

This way, you have a restoration plan in case something goes wrong with the upgrade.

    Just to add:

You must migrate the ADAM database so to maintain the specified permissions vCenter

    See: Migrateing vCenter new host

  • Manual removal placeholder VMs when the protected virtual machine is removed

We run SRM 5.5. We had some VMs protected, we need more, so they have been removed from the drive (I can't). When I found out about it, I went in SRM and removed the protection for these deleted virtual machines. Most of the VMS placeholder have been correctly removed by this procedure, however, I see still 2 VMs of space reserved for virtual computers that no longer exist. No idea why only these 2 (about 6) were not cleaned.

My question: can I remove manually just these VMs placeholder? They are not in any group of protection, or the stimulus plan. And the protected virtual machines which correspond to these placeholders no longer exist. It's as if they are zombie placeholders. :-)

There is no problem with me removing the VMs placeholder manually, y at - it?

    Hello

Yes, its safe to delete the place holder vm.  Make sure the source VM is not protected and no replication is configured. Restart the SRM service.

  • Host communication and the VM

    Hello

    My name is Todd.

I have a laptop running Fedora 10 with VMWare Server 1.0.9 installation and operation of a Windows Server 2003 Virtual Machine.

I'm doing some tests and I need to have the ability to host (Fedora 10) machine and the machine virtual (Windows Server 2003) to communicate with each other without using an external DHCP server.

I am able to get them to communicate when there is a DHCP server present, but I need them to communicate internal when my laptop is not connected to a network.

I tried to assign static addresses to the host and the virtual computer by using the same subnet, but they are unable to communicate.

How can I get both communicate with each other without having to plug into a network?

Here I made a DHCP server on my laptop and go in this way?

Or can I use VMWare built to the DHCP server for this?

I should also mention that I have the virtual machine using a bridged network design

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    See you soon

    Todd

    Hi tood,.

I do not now remember in VMWare Server, because I use my computer... but you must select in the network instead of bridge configuration configuring 'Host' only (if it's in the gentle vmware server)

Otherwise there is a kind of terminals for LAN adapters: dummy terminals of LAN cables) which creates a loop when you plug it in to your local network connection: the pc will think that you have a cable connected and if you have a static IP on both machines in the same network... it will work

    I hope this will help

  • How to find out really currently used physical memory and swap space of hard disk to the virtual computer running?

Suppose that I'm leaving WinXP hostOS a guestOS. Then a part of this guestOS remain in physical memory and another part is deployed on hard drive in the swap file resp swap partition.

First question: the complete *.vmdk loaded into memory/swap space or only the part that is currently required?

Perhaps only a *.vmdk 800 MB / 3GB is really responsible. But these 800 MB could be extended to 2 GB, because the content of these 800 MB is not compressed during load or guestOS drivers allocate additional memory.

*. VMDK size seems so NO indicator for the actual amount of used memory / swap.

How will I know how much physical (a) memory and (b) the hard disk swap space EXACTLY is currently occupied by a certain virtual machine running?

    mattad wrote:

First question: the complete *.vmdk loaded into memory/swap space or only the part that is currently required?

The vmdk is not loaded into memory, because it is the drive of the virtual machine.

*. VMDK size seems so NO indicator for the actual amount of used memory / swap.

Yes, of course not. The memory used by the client is not related to the size of hard but the RAM assigned in the options of hardware reviews.

How will I know how much physical (a) memory and (b) the hard disk swap space EXACTLY is currently occupied by a certain virtual machine running?

Open the Task Manager and find a task vmware - vmx.exe or vmware-vmx - debug.exe.

The swap file should be used if you have chosen to allow that VMware Workstation is authorized to Exchange. The file where swaps to door expansion .vmem Workstation. Search folder of comments.

  • Total physical memory installed physical memory vs

    Hello all;

I've been running a Windows Server 2008 (VM) for about a year without any real problems. We have some software (written by a 3rd party) that uses a SQL database.

The software started hanging randomly during the day for all users, other applications are not made only this software. I put the question to the people who wrote the program, and they discovered something in their search for a settlement.

When you open msinfo32 on the server the following is reported.

Physical memory (RAM) installed 10.0 GB
    Total physical memory 2.00 GB
    708 MB available physical memory
    20.2 GB total virtual memory
    8,82 GB available virtual memory
    Page file space 10.3 GB
    Paging file C:\pagefile.sys

Installed physical memory is the same as total physical memory?

When you access the system, it shows 10 GB as expected and Manager tasks also physical memory as 10238.

I read somewhere on the MAXMEM in Msconfig. I had a look here, all of the boxes where unchecked. When you check the Maxmem 10238 appears. When you 'ok' out, then pull up the it shows 2048 (weird) so I have that nothing is done.

    This host is ESXi 5.0 on a ML350 G5

    30GB of RAM

    2.5 quad

I hope someone can help me understand this, maybe I guess me to do something when the virtual machine has been installed first?

    Thanks in advance

Yes. See products VMware and hardware support for virtualization (VT-x/AMD-V).

    Yes, indeed.

I find there's a .vmem file that I think it's a kind of memory for the virtual machine file.

This file contains the image of the memory of a suspended virtual machine.  When a virtual machine is suspended, it uses all of the physical memory.

    Hello

In general the BSOD is the product of the problem of hardware or software problem. To check if it of software or hardware associated with deliver its necessary to reinstall the OS and check if the BSOD will appear using the new OS preinstalled.
Of course, it s painful to do that because the recovery procedure would format the HARD drive and therefore the data backup is necessary!

I don t think that the different input voltage might affect the functionality of the laptop computer because the laptop uses the universal adapter that supports entry 100V-240V.

BSOD can be caused by faulty memory modules so I think that this test of memory could be useful also
