TouchSmart 600-1055-Message of disk error hard hd521-2w

I have a Touchsmart 600-1055 is our guarantee. I am running Windows 7 (64-bit). I have hard to start when the computer hangs at the Windows screen. I was able to carry out repairs and after many attempts it finally began. I ran the test of the system and the only test that failed was for my Smart hard drive test and gave the code of hd521-2w. I guess that means that the HD is about to go. Am I wrong? And if yes, what is the replacement and can I upgrade to 2 TB and when and where can I find instructions on how t it? Thank you!

Yes you are right. The hard drive has virtually disappeared.  Back up your files.

I would go no larger than a 1 TB HARD drive.  2 TB might work, but it might not.

SATA II 7 200 RPM desktop drive, that's what you need to replace with.

    The hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced. Once you have replaced the HARD drive you will need to perform the HP system recovery so that Windows and hardware drivers are reinstalled correctly.

    I would like to run CHKDSK to check the hard disk for errors.  Click Start-> computer.  Click the C: drive, and then click Properties.  Click the Tools tab, and then click check now.  Click on the Scan for bad sectors recovery attempt, then click Start and click OK.  Be aware that it can take up to several hours depending on the size of the hard drive.

    I am currently working for my intermittent problems of girlfriends with his laptop HP DV6T 3100.  The unit occasionally freezes and crashes, and then retrieves and returns to normal.  Occasionally of the boots to a hard drive error.  When it does not read the hard disk, the BIOS test pass.

    Hello romanaz1987.  I understand that you encounter some problems with the hard drive in your friend DV6T.

    I share your diagnosis - which seems to be a problem with the hard disk controller.  The reason why I believe that it is only your steps of troubleshooting narrowed down the issue well enough.  The hard drive is known for work that you are able to use it in an external enclosure without problem.  In addition, the next thing I would try personally would have been reinstalling/replacing the SATA cable and you did both.  So, that leaves either the motherboard or controller hard drive as the culprit.  Unfortunately there is no way that I know to further diagnose the issue without taking the laptop to a technician.

    How long have you tried using the hard drive in the enclosure?  Given that the problem is intermittent, it may be useful to use the hard drive in the enclosure for an extended period of time.  It'll still exclude strange intermittent problems with the drive.

    I suggest take this laptop to a local technician, if she is no longer under warranty (you can check here).  A technician will be able to more practical tests that don't translate well on the forums.  If you are still in warranty, then you should definitely, contact HP support and let them know about the problem.  If you are in the USA / Canada, the number is 1-800-474-6836.  However, if you are in another part of the world, you need to visit HP's Support around the world to find contact information for your country.

    I have a HP pavilion DV7-3060us running Windows 7 home 64-bit

    Sorry to bring bad news, but... If you have a SMART hard disk error then the drive is toast. There is no way around that.

    The INTELLIGENT notification system gives you a report that the BIOS sees when it queries the hard disk during the Power On Self Test, he always does before the start in the Windows operating system.

    I hope that you have created a set of HP recovery cd. If you did, then you still have your operating system intact. If you do not, you can buy a replacement of HP recovery disk. They are inexpensive.

    I get an error message that says "built in hdd error" when starting my laptop. The laptop has 2 HARD drives. A 40GB and the other 60 GB.

    I tried both in the slot to HDD1 and I still get the same message. I was able to use the recovery disk on the 60 GB HARD drive and was able to boot the laptop. He worked for an hour then I got the same message from disk again. Everything is plugged in fine.

    Have you already tried to install Windows on the 40 GB as suggested boarder?
    And have you checked the 40 GB or 60 GB using Drive Fitness Test?

    If Drive Fitness Test doesn't indicate a mistake I guess that the HARD disk controller is defective. This controller is welded/fixed on the motherboard and so you have to swap the motherboard together.
    It's a little tricky. Of course you can try it yourself, but an authorized service provider can do for you.

    If you get an error of HARD drive and after that the message PXE boot, it seems that your internal HARD drive is not recognized more...

    Have you already checked the BIOS if the HARD drive is it recognized?
    Otherwise I think you need to replace the HARD drive :(

    First of all:

    And now, for what happened after I did all what has been proposed:

    Nothing.

    The message remained the same.

    Still no hard drive (even if it was new)

    Then I took a hard drive to work with Win7 on it from another machine, put it in the Compaq and... nothing.

    I tried the USB with Win8 (NTFS with Rufus) does not.

    I don't know why, I tried again, but when I used the same USB with UBUNTU Live - 14.04. on that I had taken or tried before... He recognized at startup.

    Weird hard drive wiped completely since it was not recognized by the BIOS (one with Win7 on it... data paths but I had backup ).

    So, now I'm running the faithful Tahr on the Compaq and it works fine.

    I will try to put the original Win8 on it, but the system doesn't seem like more since USB NTFS NTFS are not recongised at startup.

    Well Anyhoo, I got the machine to work.

    Would have been nice to know what was wrong with him to solve future problems, but at least I had to register in this forum
