Transfer ALL a W7 HD to a new system

Replacement of a window broken on a favorite DELL Studio has led to failure in which the screen went out of control, with nothing but colorful graphic gibberish and uncertainty on my part as to if the event reports just a display or a motherboard failure. (Attempts to boot to an external monitor have failed).

I've never used an external, and part of the appeal of this Dell HD casing was the massive library of Internet Explorer bookmarks that I had built over five years. I watch a Youtube tutorial last night for the neophytes of the HD box, I'm unsure if attaching the HD removed Dell a Fujitsu will really allow me to move everything. While I realize is that these forums address material, I write because I have a fairly recent back-up of files Dell. I won't lose too much if I just relied on a back-up to two weeks.

However, I DO want not only Internet Explorer Favorites. Transfer just bookmarks would be a question to open the captive Dell drive and copy - paste? I also fear that--if the 'event' has been a card mother-FRY and not a malfunction of the display (which could be addressed by installing a new screen), the event could have corrupted files. It goes without saying that I don't know anything about the relationship between electronic events on one of PC and their effect on the files (and would be very grateful if someone could point me to a site where I could learn to assess the nature of the disaster who turns in a truncated view).

Thank you for reading this.

It seems a little unlikely that you damaged the motherboard for the replacement of the bezel.  It is most likely you damaged the screen itself (repair: "NOTICE: removal of the bezel of the background screen cover requires extreme care to avoid damaging the bezel and the display panel").

You don't "start to an external monitor.  Rather, you can start the machine and when it installs, simultaneously press the Fn key and press F8 (I think it's the F8 key, but you should take a look at the icons on the F keys).  Usually, pressing the key combination rotates between only portable--> external monitor only--> two screens--> laptop only.

If you can't really not any job to display, then Yes, you can remove the hard drive from the laptop, put in an appropriate external box and connect this external box to any other computer.  You must have an external enclosure that has the correct interface (SATA) for the hard drive and in some cases (I'm not sure of your Dell Studio), you will need to remove the drive adapter, after you take on the laptop and before you put in the outer shell.

Once the disk in the external box is connected to another computer, it should appear in [my] computer as just another hard drive.  You can then copy all the files on this disc.

IE favorites are located in C:\Users\\Favorites

If you have difficulties to access the files on the external hard drive, you may need to 'Take Ownership' such as described here--> http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/66043-take-assign-ownership-file-folder.html

  • How to transfer all files and programs from old HDD to new HDD?

I would like to change the HARD drive of my laptop to one with more capacity. Is there a way for me to transfer all my current content to the new the old HARD drive without having to re - install all programs / operating system?

Well, the simplest would be a backup image.

    I m using a 3rd party software. It s a Norton Ghost.
This tool allows you to create an image of you HARD drive or simple partitions.
I created an image file and stored on the external HARD drive.

Then, I installed the new OS on the laptop, installed Norton Ghost and used the external HARD disk image file to restore all the files and programs again.

But you don't need t to use the ghost there are many other applications to create an own google simple image

  • How can you transfer all data and software form old iPad new iPad?

Hello: I have an iPad 9.7 "display of 2012 with 16 GB of storage. I'm about to storage now and are considering buying an iPad 2 Air. My question is, how can you transfer all the info from my old iPad to the new without starting from scratch?

    Thank you, Gilbert.

Whence the content come of for example you have the music on the iPad, and if so is sometimes copied from CDs? You can copy purchases on iTunes from your computer via file > devices > transfer purchases, make a backup of the iPad, and restore this backup on the new iPad (music, videos, etc. is copied from the iTunes library, not the actual backup, so you will need these items in the iTunes library).

How you would normally do it is:

    1. remove the hard drive then it slave in another computer - transfer files using the portable computer for the new Flash Player

2 buy or borrow a USB disk drive hard put in yout case then plug it on your new laptop and read the hard drive like this

  • How can I transfer all the emails from the old hard drive to a new hard drive, Windows 7

This transfer of e-mail has some quirk to it.  I am running Windows 7 Professional on a concert of 150 old drive raptor WD with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.  I'll be installing Windows 7 Professional on the new drive and running Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird and the need to pass all the information the browser and e-mails (with folders) to the appropriate place on the new drive.  I will use the same Windows 7 Professional disk for the operating system on the new drive, and then the old drive will be trashed as soon as the transfer is completed.  What is the best way to transfer the data since I use two different browsers and e-mail clients?  Do I first transfer all on the same type of browser and e-mail on the new disk and then import in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird, or can I do a direct transfer to them?

    Hey there James :)

If your original WD Raptor drive is in good health, have you considered cloning it to the new drive and so keeping everything as it is without the need to reinstall and backup and restore your data to the e-mail and other applications? I suggest to check out Acronis True Image WD Edition for this procedure: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=st8xw8
I would first of all check if the drive is healthy, as the procedure could transfer some potential errors from the old drive to the new. I would recommend running tool WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic to check the status of the WD Raptor drive. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=p7VtBy

After the back if you have any questions!

No, it won't, it will transfer personal files and settings. You will have to reinstall your applications from the original installation files or install CDs and DVDs.

  • Smartphones blackBerry how to transfer all the data from my BlackBerry/Outlook to new computer

    Nice day

I am currently using a Torch 9800 on my old Dell using Microsoft Outlook 2003.  I just bought a new Dell computer and installed Microsoft Office 2010 with Outlook.  I would like to transfer all my data from my BlackBerry Torch / Outlook to my new computer.

Can I install BlackBerry desktop on my new computer and just sync with my flashlight or do I make a back-up to my old computer and restore the backup file to my new computer?

    Thank you.

It depends on what everything you want moved. You can google for more information about how to transfer all your Outlook, including mail settings and all of your PIM data.

If it's just the calendar, tasks and address book data, then if your BB has everything you want on it, then you can install BDS on the new computer and set up a synchronization one-way system your BB to Outlook to transfer everything in the new perspective. Once it is on both devices settings of two-way synchronization.

I would like to make a backup of your BB before you do any synchronization to a new computer, just in case where you screw up the sync and removes the BB PIM data.

the police may be impaired, but you can always install it by selecting it, that does not preclude the possibility that it will cause problems.

If you have a police backup, use a backup copy.

If you have not you can go to the foundry and download a new copy

If you found it on the web you can find on the web.
