  • What you have already tried to solve the problem

Hi zztopzztop,

Instead of a new user account, you can move the public folder of music, and from there the two accounts are accessible and played.

Check out the link:

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/sharing-files-with-the-public-folder

If you want to continue copying, then you can copy if the default location for the new user account.

Sign in with the user account that you may have created. To ensure that this new user account has administrator privileges.

a. open the Explorer, click on organize, and select folder and Search Options

b. click the display and check the option Show hidden files and folders box and click OK to save the settings.

Now navigate to your C:\Users\(Old Username folder) and copy all the files and folders in the folder C:\Users\(Old Username) in the C:\Users\(New Username folder).

Hope this information is useful.

  • Cannot delete files from Windows Media Player library.

    Original title: deleting files problem

I deleted a large number of music of my WMP library & computer files, but they are still listed in WMP. I can't play any of them as they were deleted, and I get a message telling me so when I try! Why are they still displayed in the list and how do I get rid of them? I tried to restart, changing the target folder, etc., without change. I even tried to remove all of the library (but not the computer this time) and they do not always go!

    Hi Jamie,

Welcome to Microsoft Community where you can find all the answers related to Windows.

According to the description provided, looks like you are not able to completely remove the files in Windows Media Player.

I have a couple of steps that should help you to solve this problem.

You can try to clear the database of Windows Media Player and check if it clears the titles and generic icons.

To do this, follow these steps:

    Method 1:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player in the start search box and enter.

    3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Method 2:

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. exit Windows Media Player.

    2. click on Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the start search box and enter.

3 select the folder Media Player, and then click delete on the file menu.

    4. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Keep us informed on the status of the issue. If you face problems more when working with Windows post on Microsoft Community.

  • Transfer a file from Windows Media Player library to iTunes library

I recently downloaded 5 songs mp3 that I paid for, expecting to go on my iTunes account after the opening of each of them. They went into the Windows Media Player on my computer instead. How can I get these on my account iTunes so I can sync it to my iPod? I don't see anything on the Windows Media Player or iTunes to share between them.

The following article will help to find the music on your computer.

Where are my iTunes files located?

    http://support.Apple.com/kb/HT1391

All you need to do is add the songs to your new iTunes library.

Adding music and other content on iTunes

    http://support.Apple.com/kb/HT1473

    1. Open iTunes
    2. On the file menu:
    3. Add the file to the library
    4. Add a folder to the library
    5. Find and select the file or folder you want to add

If iTunes is set to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library", iTunes copy all content is added to the library of iTunes for the iTunes Music folder. To set this parameter, or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in the iTunes preferences.

Note You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

  • How to transfer music from Windows Media Player to MP3 Sony Reader

When I try to transfer music to the library media player to a Sony 4 GB MP3 player with 3.00 GB of free space, it comes back with an error has occurred. What should I do to fix this problem.

Yes, but his advice to help get rid of the error. From your brief question, nobody can guess that you are a "dummy computer." In addition, you don't say what model of Sony, so you can't see how to use it to help you!

Unfortunately, there is no easy cure for wave-the-magic-wand. You will need to go under the hood and get your hands dirty or ask someone to do it for you.

So, without being facetious, here's the long version. If anything is not clear re-don't post, no problem for re - explain:

    (1) read the manual supplied with your Sony device. If it says install software Sony provided on a CD or DVD with the unit and you did not and that yet, then install it...

    (2) use said software Sony for transfers - it works? I ask because I had a Sony camera a long time ago and it necessary/best worked with Sony software. Their video cameras are another example of this. But that is besides the point.

    (3) if the manual says you need or can use WMP to the sync'ing, then that's where we get dirty hands.

    (4) do the following: right-click on my computer (on your desktop) > click Properties in the menu dropdown > left click on hardware > left click on Device Manager.

    (5) glance to see if there are yellow asterisks against one of the entries in the Device Manager. If there is, note to the bottom of the unit in question, double left-click on it and a small window will open. Note the exact error. Re-post with the said error.

    (6) If no error: disconnect your Sony USB device > left click on the sign against the penetration of USB Controllers + > make right click on each entry to tour who turns and selected 'delete '. Not re-start your PC until all the hubs/USB controllers are removed/UN-installed... This will unfortunately be uninstall all your USB devices (keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.), but don't worry, the driver software will always be on your PC. See paragraph after Phew!

    (7) re-boot.

    (8) let XP re - install the USB software necessary for all USB devices you may have connected (keyboard, mouse).

    (9) once things are settled down, grab the manual Sony. Check to see if you need to install the drivers for the device from Sony. If necessary, then pop the installation in your drive disc and install it there. If its so-called plug-and-play, then XP will install generic drivers and you do not have to do a thing. Whatever the option, when XP says your device is ready to use, open WMP (or the Sony software, if its necessary) and transfer away.

    Phew!

If you have a USB printer (or other device) turns on / them one by one. XP will ask you if he can look for the drivers. Let him do his thing, as the necessary files are already on your PC (see end of point 6). and he must know where to look. If there is just one problem, you need to reinstall the driver, XP will overwrite all of the files that is already.

Listen, if you're not happy to do the above, ask someone to help you or do for you.

Re-post if the problem persists, but please give references of full model of your Sony Reader so I can take a look at the online manual.

  • Can I disable adding automatic file from Windows Media Player?

OK, first OFF... it's very annoying!

    1. I don't want all of the files on my hard drive in my WMP library.
    2. everytime I open WMP it diverts resources and my computer and add files, I don't want in my list of the library and it does every time.
    3. I love the advanced tag editing feature, but I'm about to abandon this program if I can't it settle down and change his behavior without having to resort to hacking my own registry techno.

Is there a simple way to disable the auto add file function so that I can add only files that I want to manually.
    If it isn't... I'm done.

On my version of WMP, I can go to:
    Tools-> Options-> Library (tab)-> button "monitor records.
Then a "Add to library" window opens with a list of the folders that are searched for multimedia files.  Just select each row and then click the ignore"" button.

  • Cannot delete file in windows Media Player

I can delete video files from Windows Media Player. I think that I deleted them before somehow but standard photos (balloon, balloons) always appear in video library for all deleted files and try right-click and delete is not remove them from the library. There is no error message when you try to remove them and when you try to play them you get Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. I don't want to play the file I want to just delete it.

You probably need to reset the library to get rid of the files in the library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service . If its status is started , double-click the service, and then click stop .
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, rename the folder Media Player as Old Media Player . If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt.
