transfer files from your old computer with video card damaged to new computer
my old computers video card is damaged can not read anything on the monitor. I want to transfer files to my laptop. Old computer has windows xp new computer has windows vista. I can do this with just an easy transfer cable?
Hello
Put the hard drive from the old computer in the new computer as a 2nd drive. Or turn the player
in an external USB enclosure. Or the other must allow you to access the files.
I hope this helps.

transfer files from your old computer, use old hard drive?
I just buy new desktop HP Pavilion p6-2120. I need to transfer files, programs, etc from my 6 year old Dell desktop computer. I know that I can use the program of transfer of Windows 7 with USB key, easy transfer cable, or external hard drive to move the files.
As can another method of transfer, I take the old hard drive from the Dell desktop computer & install in the new HP Pavilion? Is the old hard drive (ATX 80 GB, 7200 RPM, DIM2, XPS2) compatible with the new HP where it will work again?
Since I am not transfer that much is the best for any purchase a Windows 7 transfer cable?
mikesimms,
Your theory is correct. If you want that all settings, email, documents, photos, music, and other data files, use either the program Windows Easy Transfer. It will accept an external device or use the easy transfer cable.
If you want only the documents, photos, music, and other data files , then you could add the XP disk to the system (temporarily use the p6-2120 DVD player wiring). You can copy files to the new folders.

How can I transfer files from my old pc sony Vista for my laptop new HP 17-j003
How can I transfer files from my old sony pc running vista for my laptop new HP 17-j003 Windows 8
Welcome to the HP, Roodie forum.
There is an easy way to do it using Microsoft Windows Easy Transfer :
Transfer files and settings from another PC
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do not want to transfer files using the easy transfer method, you can manually make the copy.
- You can connect the systems on the same network,
- Define the folders that contain your data transfer to 'Share' on the network
- Map the drive on your new Vista computer system network
- Copy the data you want to transfer
On the Vista Machine:
- Open a Windows Explorer window,
- Right click on the folder that contains the data you want to 'share' (transfer)
- Click Properties > share > share and follow the instructions to allow the folder to be shared on the network
On the Machine Windows 8:
- Windows key (opens the start screen) > anywhere type 'computer' >
- Click on "computer" to open the "Computer" File Explorer window >
- Click map network drive and follow the instructions to map the drive
Don't forget: If your account name is different on the Vista computer, you will need to click on "Sign in using different credentials" and then enter the name of the account on the Vista computer AND the password for this account.
You can do this with the upper or lower level folders folder level - as long as the folder is shared, you should have general access to the data it contains.
There are cases where you will not end up being "owner" of the data transferred - you will have to perhaps enter and adjust the property for files / folders after they are copied to the computer of Windows 8.

I have a computer running windows vista that I'm planning on upgrading to Windows 7. I will be transferring files and settings from my old computer running windows XP SP3. Can I make the transfer to the new computer before upgrade Vista to Windows 7 or should I first, up grade for Win 7, and then do the transfer? I also asked a previous question about the email, I use Outlook Express on the XP machine. What happens to the emails, settings, and contacts once I use Windows Vista and Win 7 easy transfer to the have Outlook Express? The new computer has Outlook 2003 is installed, all the settings will automatically go to this program?
Make the transfer later. Everything you do is do more work for the upgrade. It takes hours as it is. Please use the forums of office for questions by email. Click Office link in the banner at the top of the forum page.

transfer data from your old computer to new computer. Palm Desktop app where led apps?
Help, please
I backed up my old files from my Palm programs out of my old computer database
(The hard disk and the computer went wrong, and then he died.)
Question: which directories and where do I copy the old data, so that I can hotsync?
I hotsynced once, but I do not see programs in Hotsynce led screen, where
you select handheld to crush desktop or synchronize files.
Question: In the screen sheath, which directory it seeks for programs?
I have a Sony Clie PEG-SJ22 Palm Desktop v4.1, Mgr Hotsync 4.1.0.
I spent 4 days on re - install the palm software, to solve the problem of usb hotsync.
I'm finally able to hotsync, thanks to previous assignments and hours of re - install different versions
the palm software.
Any help on the issues, would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Your data directory will usually be c > program files > palm > [user folder, usually an abbreviated version of your hotsyncid]
Are they missing conduits for third-party applications? If so you will need to track down and reinstall them... most applications that have a duct must run a desktop installation routine to install the duct.

Transfer programs from your old computer to new computer
How can you get the program on an old computer with windows xp to run on a new computer with windows xp. I know how to copy my old hard drive on my new hard drive of the computer, but I don't know how to record with the operating system. Software that will add them to the register what they are doing. I don't want to try to add them to the registry by myself because I don't know how.

With very few exceptions, you can not move a program to a
computer to another. You must reinstall its original media.Ken Blake (MS-MVP)

Original title: Easy Transfer password XP to Windows 7.
I try to use Easy Transfer to move files from my old computer to new computer (XP to Windows 7). I didn't have a password on my old computer, but cannot transfer to the new without one. I tried every password I never used (caps on and outside), as well as the code given at the beginning of the Easy Transfer, but nothing works. What can I do? (I use an external hard drive)
Hello
If I'm wrong, please let us know why, but my assumptions that are
- Your old XP machine is usable
- It still allows to log
- There is no password required when you don't sign
So you can try this...
- Click Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on user accounts
- Give your XP logon password
- Restart your XP machine
- Try Easy Transfer and him give the password that you set in step 4

I need to plug my monitor up to my new computer before transferring files from the old computer
yet to try to find out if I need to have my monitor connected to my new computer before I use the easy transfer cable to transfer my files from my old computer to the new
Yes, you will need a monitor connected to your computer to use an easy transfer cable. I suggest to use two monitors, one on the old computer and the other on the new.

What is the best way to transfer pictures from an old computer to a flash drive or a drive back then to a new computer?
The easiest and most reliable I've found is to make the direct drag-and-drop method.
(1) on the old computer, open your Windows Explorer and go to your photos.
(2) open another Windows Explorer window and access your 'Computer' folder and in your flash drive
(3) drag the photos to the flash drive.
(4) take the flash drive on the new computer and drag them into your images folder

I had a hard disk going bad. Installed a new hard drive and the need to transfer files from the old hard drive. I have an external enclosure for the old hard drive and can connect by usb port.
The process is fairly simple once you put the old drive in the external box. You can use the usual methods of copy and paste in Windows Explorer. If you copy files, complete folders, you can take a look at RichCopy.
