I tried fiddling with the options of customization of system tray - hide / show etc - but this has no effect. In addition, in this menu, all icons are false. for example, the volume control - normally a photo of a mini speaker - is now just a folder icon in windows (like most of them) while others have bad program icon.

I presume that you have uninstalled Norton via the Control Panel / Add or remove programs.  If you haven't already done so, you must also download and run the Norton removal tool.  For more information, see

  • System tray icon says no connection... but I am connected

I don't know if there is a way to solve this problem, but the system tray says I am not connected.  When you look at the network it shows my name of computers, a red x and the internet symbol is grayed out.  But when you click the icon with the yellow star in it it shows that I am connected correctly and the connection is full strength.  I have been using the internet like this for a week or so... I was wondering if there is a way to get the system tray icon to give a true reading.

  • Why the Word icon changed on just this computer - new Word icon with an area gray at the bottom left with a diagonal bar or a pencil?

Last week, one of our machines (34 bit) Vista has begun to view Word files by an icon which ranges from normal Word icon.  This strange Word icon has the normal Word icon with a gray area at the bottom left.  In the grey area is a diagonal bar or a pencil.  (Too small to see clearly).

It seems to behave like a normal Word document, but the icon is different.  When double click on the file, it opens Word application normally.  It prints as expected.  If I find a Word file on the server, the icon of the file word seems normal.  Once I move the computer, afterwards, the change icon.  For some, it changes shortly after I saved the document on the new computer.  Sometimes, the icon does not immediately change, and sometimes it does.  Sometimes, the icon changes after the updating of the computer.

I was told what happened after an update of Microsoft, but I can't check.  This computer has a Word 2007 (which has been updated to Word 2003 several months ago) and is running on the Vista operating system.

We tried to restore the computer to last week, but he did not.  Message:

    Hi Super_Ego,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

I suggest you try the following steps.

    1. click on start and then click Control Panel-> click the default programs->, and then select the set Associations tab.
    2. locate .doc or another Office Word on extensions and select change program.
    3. search for Microsoft Office Word, and then click OK.

Check if the word file is back to normal.

If this does not work, I suggest to create a test user account and check if the settings file for the word files are normal.

Check out this link that talks about How to create a user account in Windows Vista

Let me know if it worked.

  • Vista icons with the new little blue box

All of a sudden my image file icons have a small blue rectangular box at the bottom left of the icon with 2 > in them. Is there a program which added this and if so, how can I get rid of them, very annoying.

    Hi chas638

You have Norton on the system?

It is a known problem with Norton. Try this step:

The blue boxes with the two white chevrons are indicators showing backup,

status of the folders and files. Once you turn off the automatic backup option in Norton the blue boxes should be gone.

    Or you can also try:

In the window 'Settings' in the "Quick commands" section there is a checkbox for "Backup status indicators" - If you uncheck this box, the icons disappear. You should be able to activate the automatic backup.

NOTE: Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

After back and let us know if it helped to solve your problem.

  • Windows 7 starter system tray icon problem

    Hello

Recently, I met a problem with my wifi icon in the system tray. At startup, the icon does not and continues to lead the blue sign loading. On right click, it turns into a different icon with a red x. To the left by clicking on the icon does absolutely nothing however other icons work perfectly well. The section in the control panel associated with networking also does not.

I am able to access the internet on some sites. Some sites like hotmail etc do not load.

I tried to reboot in safe mode, and there is no problem however, troubleshooting doesn't show anything wrong. Enter services.msc, there is nothing to slow down the computer.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

    Thank you

I recommend you to check or find the location of the file or path where exactly you downloaded and to check whether the file is actually present in the location and also check the file is fully downloaded and work very well.

    a. Subsequently, navigate to the folder that you change the icon and right-click on the folder.
