Tried to defrag, it said I didn't have enough memory, whatever that means and how can I solve this problem?

My computer is running really slow, so I tried to defrag, clean, I got an error of memory.  I'm not able to download updates to some programs that I use for.  I don't know how to solve this problem, I tried a restore of the system to an earlier date, but that no longer works.  Need help.

Hi Katiebug1,

1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

2. When was the last time that the computer was working fine?

3. do you have security software installed on the computer?

4. what happens when you try to install updates for some programs? You receive an error message?

Method 1

See the link below and run them the fixit tool available, check if it helps.

Method 2

If you are unable to run on the computer Disk Defragmenter, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.
