Trouble installing iTunes. Get the message "unable to locate network % APPDATA%/. ».

I am trying to install the latest version of iTunes, but I get the message "Unable to locate % APPDATA%/ network.". I made sure the previous iTunes was uninstalled properly and I found a suggestion on another forum that said "click Start-Run, type regedit (without the quotes) navigate to this registry path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER--> Software--> Microsoft--> Windows--> the current Version--> Explorer--> user Shell folders
Delete the key: recent (right mouse click on the folder/keys, click on delete) close the registry editor and restart the computer. »

None worked and I have really no idea what to do. I'm not good with computers at all, then I'd be really grateful for the help.

Try this FixIt:

Code error '0 x 80070646', '646', or '1606' when you try to install the Office updates
