    Hi @jcoronat,

Welcome to the Forums of HP's Support. I understand that you get an error when you try to scan. I would like to help.

I took most of these steps from a post of Sunshyn2005. To be honest, all I did is to change the links to software, but the post is enough onsite for troubleshooting of Mac software.

    Scrub / uninstall

reset the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM on your MBP

    http://www.Macworld.com/article/2881177/how-to-reset-your-Macs-NVRAM-pram-and-SM c.html

How to reset memory NVRAM (or LANDAU)

If your Mac does not start properly or one of the functions listed in the previous section is strange, you can perform a simple reset of your Mace NVRAM or PRAM. Your Mace NVRAM or PRAM reset Resets the data stored on its default setting. (Note: as always, we strongly recommend having a full backup of your important data before troubleshooting your Mac.)

The process to reset the PRAM and NVRAM is exactly the same thing. Just follow these steps:

    (1) turn off your Mac.

    (2) (2) tourner turn on your Mac, and when you hear the ringtone to start, immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. (Note: you can use a wired keyboard to reset).

    (3) holding the keys until the Mac restarts and you hear the startup chime for the second time, and then release the keys.

After resetting the NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure some of your settings of Mace. If you're still having problems with your Mac, you may want to consider resetting the SMC.

    What is SMC?

On Macs with Intel processors, SMC is system management controller. The SMC chip controls your function of sleep Mace, various lights and indicators, speed of the fan and keyboard backlight power among other things. So if your fan Mace is out of whack, lights are misconduct, he answer correctly when the lid is closed, or the Mac not turn on at all, you might want to reset the SMC. (Note: again, be sure to have a full backup of your important data before resetting the SMC)

How to reset the SMC in a MacBook with a non-removable battery

    (1) stop the Mac.

    (2) connect your power adapter to your Mac and a power source.

    (3) with the Mac turned off, press shift-control-Option and press the power button at the same time.

    (4) release all the keys and turn on your Mac.

  • Backup a Time Machine backup?

When troubleshooting a Mac in the past, I had the frightening experience of him erase my Time Machine backup.  Fortunately, I was able to restore the backup on the disk.

Now I'm troubleshooting a Mac, I have my external drive Time Machine and a blank disk.

For security reasons, before making troubleshooting more away from the Mac, I want to back up the Time Machine disk to the blank disc.

Of course, I could just drag - copy the folder of documents from one disk to another, but it can cause all sorts of permissions problems. Would it not possible (or better) to use a backup like Carbon Copy Cloner for this application?

Try using disk/restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition.

You can then go to system PreferencesTime Machine and add the blank disc as a backup drive.

I have a late 2010 Macbook Air Yosemite running.  I want to level to El Capitan.  I can download El Capitan, but then nothing happens - he never moved the upgrade process and the computer is still in Yosemite.  I have restarted the download process three times now, with the same result every time.  Is it possible that I may find the downloaded file and force the installation?

    Graham,

Open your Applications folder and look for an application install OS X El Capitan, if it finds in the Applications folder, double-click it.

    Hello Anshul230499,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If a download was interrupted in the Mac App Store, then whenever you have new Internet download should then restart.

If a download application is interrupted

Once an Internet connection is restored, your purchased downloads should restart automatically. The Mac App Store may warn you that there is a problem with the download and ask if you want to restart downloads. Confirming will restart all pending downloads.

Download time may vary according to the size of the file and the speed of your Internet connection. See this article on purchases made on iTunes Store for more information on the time to download large files.

  • What is the latest version of El Capitan?

.. .and how do I get it? I just bought a new MacBook Pro that claims to have 'OS X El Capitan 10.11.12 version', but the App Store wants to 'upgrade' me to 10.11.4. The support page for El Capitan shows that as the last available update, too. (I usually download my updates using a browser, because for some reason any app store often inexplicably quit unexpectedly after the download of a few dozen to a few hundred megabytes.) Whassup?

    The latest version is 10.11.4.

  • LaserJet P1005 is more to communicate with any computer

    Hello
A week before, our printer just stopped communicating with any one of the computers on which we have the drivers and software. It turns on, no light error. All computers recognize it and you allow to click Print in any program. It goes into the print queue and died there with no error message. I searched and not found a way to reset the machine.

All computers that connect normally with the printer (by USB) is Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate, and one is a MacBook. All are up to date. Same problem in all areas.

    Thanks for your time!

    Hi @superqueen,

I see that you have problems printing from both PC and Mac.

Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (do not use a hub or a surge protector) This ensures that the printer is full on and can help this situation. Power cycle the printer, if it is already connected to a wall outlet.

Power cycle the computer and check the connections. Make sure that the USB cable is connected directly to the computer. (not a USB hub or a router)

Try and print a self-test on the printer hardware to see if it is a hardware or software problem.

Open and close the lid 5 times quickly. It should display a page with lines on the subject.

    Did print the test hardware?

If the test page for printed material is then relative.

  • Why my PS CS6 tools suddenly stop working?

My Photoshop CS6 was working perfectly last night; but when I went back to my project this morning, I was able to open documents existing and new start, but the only tool that works the box selection - and instead of double click to release the selected item, I had to do it manually. Also couldn't copy and paste once, until no longer works, as well.

After the update (if necessary) and the closure of all open files in the window, I closed Photoshop... rebooted and found it not solved the problem. Also discovered A several new documents that certainly have been open and visible in the window earlier today apparently not asked if wanted to save before I closed... .so lost 2 hours of work.

The only recent change to my computer has been adding software for the new Canon printer that I had bought when my Xerox Phaser has stopped working. (Since I was already getting WiFi via ethernet connection to the modem Time Warner had traded against the previous router (last year), it was easier to continue this topic rather than looking for a USB cable long enough to reach the box).

So far I did have the opportunity to print a Photoshop document, but the initial test sheets printed without any problems. The only difference I noticed with PS after that installation, it's that the tools were in two adjacent vertical lists, instead of the previous single vertical list.

I read the instructions to reset the preferences of the tool and although it reminded me how we used to troubleshoot our Macs years there, there are so many 'things' on my computer, I was hesitant on the withdrawal of all existing preferences to a different location where I managed to lose them in the process. However, I found their replacement in one annoying warnings.

BTW, I use an iMac 2012 end (bought at the end of the following year)... and updated at Yosemite 8.05 and Flash Player a couple of months.

In which case it might be related... as many Mac users have reported, Safari crashes sometimes and I am often plagued by warnings that the Safari web content does not... But as far as I can tell, it's only slow performance; is no not inoperable software features. I'm more concerned of Photoshop, because I need to go to an important meeting at the beginning of the week.

Photoshop preferences are corrupt often cause Photoshop to act and behave strangely.  It is also a common thing so then Adobe added shortcut to start that you can use to remove your preferences.  Photoshop will build it a new set of default preferences for you. So lose everything you preferences is really not that big of a deal.  However if you who worries about this, you can keep your old preferences.   What you need to do is fine, the record id user preferences are stored in your Mac and rename the folder.  When you start Photoshop it will create a new folder to store your preferences and create a set of preference files default to your user ID.
