TrustedInstaller.EXE active duty permanently, taking up to 50% of the CPU resources

On my machine (Windows 7, 64-bit), the TrustedInstaller.EXE is permanently active. The amount of CPU used is constantly changing. 2 seconds 0% and then to 50% (I have a dual-core) for a second and then to 0.

Restart the machine did not help. Also a full antivirus scan was negative.

I followed the process with the Process Explorer tool. I can see that the process always access the same registry key when it becomes active. The key is

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component base Servicing\PackageDetect\Microsoft-Windows-IIS-WebServer-AddOn-2-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~0.0.0.

Hi Robear,

in the meantime, I found the process that has been responsible for the activities of trustedinstaller. It's the xenservice.exe that was installed with the Citrix XenCenter on my machine. I killed this process and all of a sudden the trustedinstaller.exe ceased operations. So the problem is now solved because the XenCenter can function without this process and I will delete it auto

Thanks for your help.

    This has happened

    A few times a week

is after update of Firefox 3.6.4

I have the same problem with Firefox 3.6.6 except that it also consumes massive amounts of CPU during the race. This version also adds a new process on your system. I am running XP and in the beginning I tried to disable some plug-ins. Always consumed too much memory. I went back to version 3.6 and the new process went, and the CPU consumption is way down. Something is wrong with the latest version of Firefox, I never saw behave this way. Revert to a previous version (Filehippo) and you will see the difference.

  • Consent.exe and Windows Update my freezing machine. Related to TrustedInstaller.exe

I have a laptop running Windows Vista 64 bit and I recently tried to install a new update. However, when I stopped him, he would tell me it was installing the update and freeze it. I let it sit for 3 hours, but no progress before the ' turn off. When I rebooted, I tried to check the updates. I expected the UAC message to come and ask me if I was sure that I wanted to do, but he never appeared. When I tried to click on anything that anybody else, he wouldn't do anything. When I restarted it in safe mode, I don't have a problem (although obviously, I can't install the update to Windows).

Since then, I tried to run the system restore, MalwareBytes, SpywareDoctor, Windows Defender, chkdsk, sfc scannow and startup repair. None of them helped the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

UPDATE: TrustedInstaller.exe, which is required for updates, is not running in normal mode, even if I set it automatically runs in the characteristics. I tried to activate it, but needed admin access. If I could get into the elevated command prompt, I should be able to start. However, I don't know if this is possible under Vista. Does anyone know if the RUNAS command can be used at the command prompt to get administrator access?

You can try a system restore to a previous point where you have not experienced the problem.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

  • "Installer" taking up the CPU

I have an iMac end of 2012, and lately he worked very slowly. A few days ago, I checked the activity monitor to see "Installer" take a lot of CPU. I leave and rejected it as an error, but sometimes it starts to do it again.  I just kept smoking them until I found several installers taking up half of the space of the CPU. I did some research and I read that the Genio virus, but there is no house icon in the upper right corner and I just can't find any files for it.

Can download some adware or malware.  A simple, fast and safe way to remove adware and malicious software is to download and to use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac. There has been developed by one of the most respected contributors and the top of the page in these forums and recommended by almost all of the top contributors here.

If you prefer to do it manually, follow these instructions in the site theSafeMac.com (author of Malwarebytes): adware removal Guide

If you want to check to see what adware/malware, you may have before you run Malwarebytes and then download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results in your response. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that has been developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) of the CSA to provide an overview of the system and help identify the most obvious culprits that can adversely affect the performance of a Mac.

  • IMRemoteURLConnectionAgent taking up the CPU

I need help knowing what to do with a process that has taken over from the CPU. The computer is a brand new iMac (retina 4K, 21.5 inches, end of 2015). 3.3 GHz Intel Core I7. Actually right now, I have 3 computers with this same problem.

There is a process in activity monitor called IMRemoteURLConnection Agent who gets in anywhere from 70 to 95% CPU. I already have a call with Apple and first off they had never even heard of this process. After a while they thought it was related to Messages. They said that it is constantly ping the cloud for contacts in Messages. They thought it could have been a bad image of golden and had me create a new drive bootable with the latest version and install it on computers. This helps not at all. He is still taking up all the CPU. There is same person logged into Messages. I tried to Landau and boots security dealing with issues for a few hours. Then he returned. If someone has had this problem and how you can solve this problem?

You reproduce the problem when running in safe mode?

Sorry, updater.exe is not Firefox itself, something else began this process.

Firefox checks the updates the module as it is launched and checks the availability of an update for Firefox, about 5 minutes after the launch. or use a separate update process, they run the process firefox.exe.
