  • What you have already tried to solve the problem

  It's good to hear - it means that the monitor is OK and that it is compatible with Vista.  It is still unclear on the video card or the motherboard on the computer (or any other problem this computer might have) = but one step at a time.  You have made great strides and ruled out several possible causes that we must now check or test.

  What is the EXACT error message you are getting (Word for Word)?  Which is the key to product, the manufacturer, brand, model and serial number or your computer (I assume it's using the original video card)?  What i the manufacturer, brand and model of the new monitor?

  Even if you could get the Microsoft drivers (which I don't think you can), you should take them to the device manufacturer or the manufacturer of the computer, if they moved on the computer.  They are likely to be more current and have fewer problems.  And you want drivers, firmware and software necessary or required by the device (they will be either the list which is available or you can ask for help and they should direct you to what you need).  Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get drivers (and you shouldget to the monitor, the video card and the motherboard and all you have time to do - they can help way beyond simply solve this problem), let the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/.   Specific advice Apple seem to be uninstall QuickTime, it should no longer be necessary and has a few potential security vulnerabilities. See Uninstall QuickTime 7 for Windows - Apple Support.

  Assuming that you have a 64 bit system, this facility expected to be compatible. For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.   Try to use the Microsoft FixIt tool to uninstall applications. Microsoft FixIt can help when programs do not want to install or uninstall.
  1. download from the link below and run it. (Note for each program, you will need to rerun the Microsoft FixIt tool)
  2. asked about if you want to choose options or run automatically, choose "automatically".
  3. the next thing he'll ask is if the problem you are having with the install or uninstall. Select uninstall.

  Thank you! I tried what you mentioned, nothing has worked... I plugged a usb keyboard and it works, so I'm starting to believe it could be a motherboard problem. I finally got windows xp pro installed, no conflicts in Device Manager, all the drivers are installed and now running smooth. I removed the keyboard, and re-set, all connections look good, but still not good. the synaptics keyboard works fine and both rt & lft click the buttons. I pulled the ram to inspect it, it's the right speed, ddr2700, and after running for an hour, it was cold to the touch! I'll try to get a new keyboard and replace it, their pretty good work, if still not good it becomes pieces on ebay... lol tx again... Marty
