Try to move the folder ' AppData/Local' to another hard drive without success...

Hi all

I have a problem which seems to have been discussed here, a few years back, but it seemed no resolution at the time.

The problem is, I am trying to get my personal files moved to drive B: to the C: drive.

This to Re-partitioning of the C: drive for less of a catastrophe should my drive C: never kick the bucket.

I found the instructions online to move all (Local, LocalLow and roaming files.  The instructions worked well upward, to the folder (Local).

I can't make it move.  I checked the permissions and I should be OK here as I am the only user and administrator.  All are checked in the Security tab.

Bottom line is I have aprox. 1.7 GB of info that I probably need to move to this folder (Local) and still can not.

I am attaching a sample of the message that I get trying to move the property path.

Can someone help me out here telling me:

(1) is it possible to move this folder?

(2) what I lose if I have a dead hard drive, if the (Local) file is not moved to the other disk?

(3) any person having legitimate suggestions, who has the same goal as me and want the cold hard facts to do that, we can

get help?

To all those who give their time, many thanks in advance and best wishes to you!

JEMM

  • I want to move the folder Program Files to another hard drive.

I have Windows 7 installed on a small primary partition on one of the two hard drives, double boot with Windows XP.  My installation of Windows XP is on a smaller primary partition (like Windows 7) and Program Files folder on a separate drive logic in an extended partition, not on the system drive.  I want to make a folder Program Files of Windows 7 on the same logical drive, Program Files and move the Program Files from Windows 7 folder to that partition on the second hard drive.

Just an update.  I finally managed to move 'Users' on a separate partition, so my installation of Windows 7 now has Windows on a partition, the files program on a logical drive in an extended partition, and users on a separate logic in this extended partition.

On the Windows partition, there are junctions that point to the logical drive Program Files and the logical drive of users and editing the registry to set these default locations.  Windows updates proceed normally and successfully.  Program facilities smoothly and work as expected.  I'll post my procedures on my site, I hope that in the near future, after that I tested and confirmed their on my other Windows 7 machines.

Be forewarned, however, that this separation will break the ability to repair/reinstall (upgrade on-site) Windows 7.  It will stop when he sees that Program Files not are not on the system partition.  However, in my particular case, I depend on third-party software disk for backup, Imaging for the loss of this functionality (repair/reinstall) has no real interest for me.  Restore a disk image is much faster.

There are other methods posted on the net to separate these main divisions of Windows during the installation. My methods are intended to guide differently to an existing facility while retaining all the features.  And once again, as shown in this thread, Microsoft Support seems to discourage that kind of thing.

  • How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive

How can I move the Virtual Mode of Windows XP hard drive to another drive?

    TIA

    Hi Benyl,

The vhd in programfiles basis cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode stops at the start.

To move the files under c, first to boot xp, instead of save mode the machine virtual., turn it off. (settings to prompt the user for action narrow close). Close the machine virtual., and then choose stop. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file because it contains data if you have not registered in the virtual machine.

Now, move it "C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd" to a desired location.

Parameters of xp mode open, go to the hard drive 1 setting and reposition the hard drive to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to start the virtual machine.

    Original title: USB problem

I use windows 7 as operating system. I have problem when I insert USB devices as pan tie drive, mobile, reader of cards ect. USB port of my PC. The problem is the USB Devices folder shown as a shortcut so I can not Capy of data in the folder with other devices or hard drive. so please suggest me what I can do?

    Hello

Start Windows Explorer, and then see if there is a drive letter assigned for access to the
drive. If this is not the case, check if the disc is shown in disk management.

    1. Open Computer Management by clicking on the button start , by clicking on Control Panel, system and security, clicking Administrative Tools and then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In the left pane, under storage, click Disk Management.

If there has made a right click option - assign a drive letter for you can use Windows
    Explorer to copy files.

    I hope this helps.

  • Move the folder of Photos on an external drive

Hello my MacBook Air is near capacity. I'm going through iTunes and Photos on an external drive to free up disk space on the internal drive. I searched the threads and found the right solution for iTunes. I moved the entire iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, in the Advanced tab of iTunes preferences, I made the file to the new location on the external hard drive. That worked very well.

Now, I'm ready to try the same process with my library of Photos (which also includes years of photos iPhoto migrated). Can I move the folder full of images (as I did with iTunes) or simply pictures library on external drive? My suspicion is the entire pictures folder, because it also contains the migrated iPhoto Pictures folders, Lightroom, Adobe and Photo Booth also. After searching for the discussions, it is not clear to me how to do it with pictures.

    Thank you

    Jon

You can move either; Once completed, launch Photos with the key Option key, click library and choose the one on the external hard drive. ITunes library should be moved in the same way rather than change the setting in the preferences.

Assuming that the middle is inside the library, just copy it to another disk and remove it from the SSD. It must be a Mac disk in format.

  • Save the contents of local files on hard drive

Periodically, I get a warning that my mailbox is almost full. Emails, I want to keep have been in various folders named by category, under which, in my view, are called local folders (see doc "Send files" attached).
If I understand correctly, these files contribute to the quota allowed in my email box.
I want to record these files on my hardrive so I can easily access their content at will, thus freeing up space on my server of the ISP.
    Is it achievable, please?
I still use Windows XP sp3 if that's relevant.

    In Thunderbird
The IMAP folders show a remote view of the folders from the server.
You subscribe to view these folders.
Message headers are downloaded, and when you choose to read an email, it is downloaded in a temporary cache.
These e-mails are kept on the server.
If you pass in "Offline Mode", you won't be able to read them.

If you sychronisé subscriber records, a copy of the file is downloaded and stored in your Thunderbird profile as a mbox file.
These files synchronized constantly updated to show what is on the server, if you delete or move an email in Thunderbird records, it is also updated on the server.
These e-mails are on your computer and the server, but they synchronize.
If you pass in "Offline Mode", you will be able to read because a copy in your profile folder.

As the server tells you that your quota is nearly full, it is referring to any email in any folder on the server. So it is also any email in your email IMAP account folders.

How to keep a copy on your computer and be able to remove emails on the server:
You "sync" all your folders subscribed to get a copy of your profile.

    Info on imap folder synchronization.

When the synchronization is complete, go to "Offline Mode" to stop synchronization further these records.

    How to switch Mode offline:
Click on the blue screen 2 icon bottom left in the status bar. In offline mode, it will be 2 black screen icon.

Create a backup of your profile - for security reasons:
Store the backup outside of Thunderbird.
You can create a folder on your desktop called "Backup to" for them.

    Into account the Local folder:
Create a few folders named suitablly in 'Local folders' ready to receive emails.
Move all the emails that you want to delete the server, IMAP folders in these new folders in the account of "local folders".
Check that they have moved correctly by selecting view emails randomly.
When you are sure that you have a copy in the local files, delete some emails from the imap folder and double-check that you can still read in local folders, if everything is ok then delete the emails in the IMAP folder.

When emails are safe in local folders.
    Compact all folders.
    File > Compact folders.
    Wait for compacting.
then go back to online mode.

    How to switch Mode online:
Click on the black screen 2 icon bottom left in the status bar. When online it will change 2 blue screen icon.

Imap folder will be synchronize with the server.

Now connect to the Web Server e-mail account using a browser.
check records to ensure that the emails have been deleted on the server.

If you have a gmail account:
Also check the "All messages" folder because it is gmails archive and keep a copy of everything. Make sure that you don't delete emails you don't want or have a copy your local folders of Thunderbird - that removing this folder will remove e-mail messages in other folders.

Hope this information resolves your situation.

  • Move the Adobe products to an external HARD drive

    Niyaaz,

Move and copy paste do not work for the installation of the Adobe applications you get all the files needed to run it. Please install the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop software on the new computer: Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps

and then use the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application to install applications:

Using creative cloud | Download, install, update or uninstall applications

If you use Photoshop on the other computer, then you can signout on this computer:

log in and log out of the desktop Adobe Creative Cloud application

  • Error when you try to move the cloudvolumes folder in a different data store

OK, so I'm moving my App volume 2.10 cloudvolumes folder of datastoreA on vcenterA on datastoreB on vcenterB, because we want to separate us from our VDI of our basic infrastructure.

We are able to access the two vcenters on the web client.

I tried to just copy the folder datastoreA to datastoreB cloudvolumes and received the following error.

Copy of the file object has already been deleted or has not been entirely created

I've seen this error in Veeam before when moving virtual machines from a data store. The solution is to remove and readd the virtual machine in the inventory.

Everyone tried to move the cloudvolumes folder?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

I would never move the folder because there are files that will always be accessible or are not in read/write mode.

I suggest you copy the files from the 1 folder to another, or maybe add an additional data store to the manager Appvolumes and let the files (appstacks at least) copy automatically.

  • How do I move the folder cache media?

For the user with SSDS 'C', the cache file quickly fill the player; Therefore, it would be advantageous to move the storage of the cache on a data drive.  Yet, I have to find a way to handle this task.

    DrTompkins

Please check Edit Menu/preferences/Scratch disks and the media in particular Cache category. In preferences, you can point the media Cache (consistent Audio Files) to disk save the location of your choice. Note: in the preferences, you will see the current folder location of Cache files from media as well as the amount of free space on the hard disk at this location.

While you're in preferences, check out the other categories, location and the free space on the hard disk at this location. See especially the video previews. At his hard drive, you can find the preview files which are generated automatically whenever you make timeline content... for SD card, dv.avi and for HD, MPEG2.mpg (same format that the preview of video source or again... they can accumulate a lot).

There's also edit Menu/preferences/Media and the Media Cache database. Better use the Clean button it is for maintenance purposes. This concerns the media Cache files folder to the location Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common in the common folder is the media Cache files folder that contains video files in line (CMPD)

This media Cache files folder again seems return/regenerate to its default location, no matter how hard you try to redirect.

Questions or need any clarification on any of the above, do not hesitate to ask.

    Thank you.
