Hi all. I tired to do a reinstall of Windows XP today. It seems to take a lot of time, and then I did a very stupid thing. I turned off the laptop that I had to go. Now when I try to start the laptop on the cd, I get as far the screen where I have to press on enter to install Windows XP pro on the system or press R to repair. The problem is that there is now no facilities to choose from in the box below and the system is not recognizing the hard drive. I can't even as much as the screen to format the drive. When I press ENTER to install windows xp, then I get a blue screen telling me that the system shuts down to protect my pc. Is anyone able to tell me what to do to solve this problem please. Thank you very much in advance for your help. Noel

Sounds like a hard drive problem then. Your drive is maybe defective. First of all, you can use the partition of diagnostic Dell (F12) for its determination.

In case there is a SATA problem, press F2 to enter the BIOS and change the setting of hard disk SATA to legacy. (Might as well try this first.)

  • I got a blue screen when you try to re - install Windows 7.

All started 3 days ago. I was using just my PC regularly, then I get a BSOD. Whenever I tried to reboot, I get a BSOD after about a minute after loading screen. The BSOD was rdyboost.sys I did a system restore using the windows via memory stick installation. Things were great, that 10 minutes later, I start getting BSOD, once again and each time after that screen as before loading. I tried to reinstall windows, but I have a BSOD at 30% to each hour. My motherboard is ASRock extreme 3 gen z68 3. Is there something wrong with the motherboard in this case? It seems to be a hardware problem, now, I guess. the BSOD now varies from as "changing the code of the system or a critical data structure has been detected" to "ntfs.sys" or * STOP: #.

I took pictures of the BSOD, but there is no option to transfer to this post. I am trying to install windows 7 pro 64-bit, which was originally about it.

  • "Error 1722" when you try to re - install Windows XP from WINNAT32.exe.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows xp on your desktop (dell 8400 dimension) and continue to receive the error 1722 "there is a problem with the windows package install. The computer came with a disk of windows, so I tried to uninstall using WINNAT32.exe, he begins to gather and then installation files to halfway, comes up with the error message. It also shows a system restore area until the error message closes... Is there another way to format the drive and reinstall windows? Or any way to stop the next error? I already downloaded and installed the latest windows install but nothing helped. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply Samhrutha, I managed to create a boot disk for a program initially provided with the Dell computer. It allowed me to create a bootable disc of my BONES, and in addition, I managed to format my hard drive and reinstall Windows. So if someone is in the same boat with a Dell Dimension 8400, there is the possibility to do so if you have not already done (that a disk can be created). Just go to start, see "Dell" in all programs and hey presto.

    Thank you

    Hello Sarah-JaneBenjamin
The disk that you want to install Windows with is an upgrade. You need a complete product if you want to use the upgrade disk to install the operating system. That's why it asks you to verify that you have a calling to upgrade product. You said that you inserted a disc of Microsoft Windows XP Professional for validation, it's the same disc supplied your brother-in-law? You have already determined that the disc is damaged, so it does not work. Have you checked that the drive that you want to use is a complete operating system and not just a service pack disc? Also if you use the upgrade disk is not the equivalent of the disk that you use to check then the validation will fail also. If I had to guess I would say that you are using a service pack disk and that's why he will not be validated.
In all cases, you must always a valid disc to re - install Windows. I suggest that you contact Packard Bell support and see if they can provide you with the media. The chances are slim that they will have it since it's Windows XP. If they don't you may want to check with 3 sites of third party for the purchase of Windows XP. Trying to divert from auction sites like most XP Media is questionable in their legitimacy.
